as a turk I can confirm there are so many fucking cats everywhere and just some cat food will get you 10 little fluffy bodyguards that go everywhere with you
I'd like that
That's like my sorta heaven. Today I saw a cute black void chilling in a yard. I pspspsed him for a bit but he wasn't interested in pets :( maybe that's creepy but if I see a cat on the street or in the neighbourhood once in a while, I'll go out of my way to pet them.
If I see a cat on the street, I immediately fall in love and decide I need to save it and love it forever. Then it runs away from me. Guess they don’t enjoy the stalker vibe. Gotta get myself to Turkey where I’d be appreciated!
The cat chooses the human Mr. Kenobi
I know, and they’re right not to choose me. Definitely cannot take anyone in at the moment with my two very old babies. The CDS will work its magic when the time and the kitty are right.
But tell that to my instinctual nature to omg love the fluffy wittle baaaaaaaaby. Sigh.
Correct. 4 cats rescued from my yard as people were ready for them.
same although alot are strays and i guess not use to getting pets unfortunately although i did see a rabbit when i was out for a walk and i so wanted to pet him lol
I saw one too. I stood frozen to not scare the rabbit. He walked a little closer to me and hopped away.
This is the way; it's the cat's decision, and some do want pets.
I have missed trams over this. It is proper. It is written.
This person cats
You gotta look them direct in the eyes and give them the slow blink.
Man that's genius. I read that "slow blink: friendly/trust/I like you" from cat parents all the time but had never thought about doing so when I meet cats on the street. Thanks. Now I got two weapons to seduce them for pets.
I’ve heard that a yawn is like saying hello in cat language
It works. We had a stray cat start coming by late last summer. At first I just said hey to it and slow blinked while going inside my apartment. Then I'd pspsps and offer it food while slow blinking.
Eventually they got comfortable enough to eat right next to us, even accept pets, and eventually learned to meow properly. Over the winter and spring we noticed they weren't looking too healthy, so we got them flea and other medicine (it didn't want to come inside, likely because we have three much larger Maine coon mixes), and they seemed to be doing much better.
Then one day they just stopped coming around, which makes me very sad, but I hope little Roger is doing well wherever they ended up.
pspspspspspspspspspspspspspspsps
hey kitty kitty come over here :D
I usually do a ckckck pspspspspsps combo. Sometimes meow if im desperate for their attention. Lol
You have to show them you are one of them, so lick your butt and cough up some hair
Yeah some respond to pspsp, some to swswsws, and some tktktkt in my experience.
I might sound crazy writing that out, but I’ve been around animals my whole life and about 75% of them will respond to one of those three, or snapping/patting leg.
Kitty security detail
So you're saying there's no rat problem..?
This thread needed that comment!
Plaque free since 1924
Plaque free? Are the cats also dentists? 🤣
They are anti-dentite
Next thing you know they’ll say they should have their own schools!
But they do have their own schools!
9 out of 10 cats agree. Turkey is the place to be.
Sounds like heaven!
It is. I visited Istanbul last year and all my pics are of cats. They are all healthy and are like little overlords of the city. I loved it so much.
Same! I went to Istanbul in October and there are so many cats! They seem so friendly, too! Me and my brother had a great time, as cat lovers
I love the rows of little cat houses in some parks
I need to see this in person! 🤓
I would highly recommend it if you are a cat lover! 10/10
yeah our culture loves animals so the cats are usually well fed and everyone takes care of them. also the city builds tiny little cat houses around parks and stuff so they have a warm place to stay during winter
The best thing I saw (in Kedi doc) an Imam says "some like the cats coming inside the mosque, some don't but I always tell them 'Cats were here first.' " The way he says it just touched me.
They probably do an incredible job of keeping the city free from vermin.
Can confirm. Seen it with my own eyes 👀
Seen a few of these videos and the cats never look scraggly. Is that just because nobody upvotes straggly cat videos, or do they have national health plan?
I visited Hong Kong back in 2010. I was staying at a friend's on Lantau Island and took a boat from there to Cheung Chau to catch the high speed cat to Central.
On Cheung Chau the island is so small people get around on foot or on bicycle.
Every morning I would walk the sidewalks intermingling with all the cats and dogs. Everyone took care of them and were friendly and kind to them.
My second night there we had dinner at Cheung Chau and while we ate outside the cats would walk by, not begging but just checking to see if anyone wanted to give them a bite of food.
An orange cat walked by me and stopped and I reached down to pet it's head. There was a distinctive layer of fat there, something I had never felt on a cat before. I gave him some barbecued pigeon and it went on it's way and as we were leaving I noticed the cat sitting on the steps with restaurant staff being petted and cuddled. As I walked around I noticed cats in shop windows, dogs lying in front of doors napping away. Just a really peaceful place to be.

A Turkish friend mentioned the government provides food that the neighborhood uses to take care of the dogs and cats as a community and I think spays/neuters the cats/dogs too.
So there's like a neighborhood pack of street dogs and cats that all the neighbors know and pet and feed and let them wander about.
Pretty sure the cats are actually community regulated with government resources to help manage the populations. They arent feral or strays.
They belong to the city like the Green Bay Packers belong to Green Bay.
Team Cat! The city should sell official merchandise to offset costs of taking care of these lovelys!
As an owner of 1/538,967th of the team, I concur. GPG and this cat city sounds awesome.
That is truly amazing and heartwarming. I wish the US would do this, I hate to see feral and stray cats or dogs anywhere
That's it, I'm moving to Turkey y'all. 😆
Eh you might want to Google Erdogan before you fully commit to that one
the economy tho. there us a reason people around the world try to buying game and subscription in turkey currency.
Is there a reason you worship cats so much ? That's awesome btw, I need to go there.
Egypt has entered the chat.
Historically, they got rid of mice and rats that carried plague. They are considered clean animals compared to dogs in Islam, too. So you can be faithful and keep cats in your home.
I am not a Turk and just a mere tourist, but holy crap there are a lot of cats in some areas. I was in a very touristy area along the beach where each square 'plot' had a hotel in it, except for one that was completely unused for some reason. Hotels on every side of it, so its not like it was in a bad area, just this one plot was abandoned and overgrown with knee to waist high dry grassy plants. Its not even like the plot had development but was abandoned, it was just untouched and still natural.
Turns out that is where all the local cats lived. Hundreds of them. Normally they were very friendly but we saw a couple of tourists walk through the grassy plot after just going to McDonalds and holy shit it was like the scene from Jurassic Park with the Raptors hunting in the tall grass. (Ok a bit of an exaggeration, the people ran out of the grass without the McDonalds, but there was lots of crazed cat noises/human screams)
I desperately want to visit turkey not just for the cats tho. That history is intense
Well appreciated your approach you may visit soon as the God wills it for you.
Oh my, I need to go to Turkey
You mean there are even more cats in Turkey than in Egypt?
Istanbul is called the Cat Capitol of the World.
Thank you. I never knew that. I’ve been to Egypt and saw tons of cats there, but wasn’t aware Istanbul was the Cat Capitol of the World. Could that distinction also have something to do with cats originating from Turkey as well?
There’s a really cool documentary on cats in Turkey called Kedi if you wanna check it out
Catstantinople
I believe it’s Catstanbul now.
I didn’t know this!
Has it been confirmed that pic was taken in Turkey? I scrolled but too many comments.
It’s definitely turkey. The beach umbrellas, the texture of the pillow fabric feel every Turkish but also feral cats being that friendly around the camera person
Should have went with catipol.
I just came back from Kadikoy and MY GOD I love your country. The food was to die for and the people were super friendly👌🏾
What's the rabies situation like? I'd want to pet them all but have been to many countries where touching stray animals is a big no no.
They are thoroughly examined if one of them shows the symptoms, and gets released(or even got adopted) when they become healthy
Packing up my catnip and booking a flight!
Think that might be a cat
Definitely Türkiye.
BOOKING A FLIGHT ASAP :8097:
Cats are treated like Kings and Queens there. They can roam and sleep where they like, even inside businesses, and people feed them, take care of them and interact with them.
Isn't there an entire island in Japan that is inhabited solely by cats? People visit to see the cats, and they're used to people. But otherwise, they're left to their own devices and have a massive cat colony.
You’re probably right.
Hes right you know
This guy is indeed right
You’re probably right
"Packs bags and gets a plane ticket" omww!!
No it's a cat

You mean a giant litterbox...
Cat shit minefield.
There's a lot of cats in Italy also.
Facts! They've taken over the Colosseum!
One was even featured in that old fight scene between Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee!
Bastard of a YouTube. This video is not available! BASTARD YouTube
What about this one?
Thanks man much appreciated!!!
o7
Yeah, this one worked for me.
lol half my photos of the colosseum are of the cats there
I remember hearing about this forever ago but just looked it up again and damn, y’all really like cats over there lmao.
There is no answer that is not Turkey.
Greece is also full of them.
Just went to Greece, can confirm. Specially in smaller towns with fewer motor roads.
Just arrived back from Thessaloniki and they dont give a shit about 6 lane roads aswell there were hundreds per street.
New Greco-Turkish war incoming
There is an entire ancient ruin that's sectioned off where you can only see it from above looking down into it from the edges. But inside, it's just cat paradise. It's like their safe zone. No humans allowed, and they are free to play and roam as they please as the humans throw food down towards them.
They swam there...
Here to confirm this.
I had dinner outside one evening while visiting Santorini and was joined by no less than 7 cats
Except for italy
Cyprus. The cat distribution system is strong there.
I've heard that Cyprus also is full of cats
Serious question. I’ve seen a few vids like this from Turkey. Do the cats have national healthcare? They never look scraggly.
Sort of lol. There are government programs to vaccinate strays. Vaccines go a long way towards keeping strays healthy. I have my own cat farm going here in the US and the ones I've managed to get vaccinated and fixed are very healthy but the rest tend to have problems. Too many cats in this little town for me to take care of them all =/
Someone tell the Anti-Vax crowd about this! lol
Thank you kind stranger for caring for the strays.
People put out cat food, and they have shelter in winter, so they're not struggling to survive, they're not competing and they have all the time to groom themselves and each other. If they're visibly sick or hurt, someone is sure to take them to the vet.
The dark side of wild animals always looking heathy is that the ones that are not healthy don't stick around for long so you tend to only see the young fit looking animals.
That'sa feature not a bug.
No. Pets do not have any healthcare. Volunteers, manicipalities and some foundations take care of their health. Actually, these cats are not sterile. Because of that starys are commin in Turkey.
Turkey? I heard they’re cool with cats. I wish we loved them that much in US.
We do, but we also have dangerous roads and precious wildlife to protect
I know we love animals here. There are amazing animals lovers in America. The Humane Society, Friends of Cats are great organizations that have taken so many strays off the streets and volunteers who help with adoption. Just in my life I remember seeing strays all over the streets but in the last twenty years or so not to many thanks to groups like them.
Heaven (aka Turkey)
Edit: Okay, I admit my guess was wrong. Either way this looks like heaven since there's so many friendly cats. Also comedic bonus, it took me way to long to write Turkey because my autocorrect had temporarily decided it ment Taco. I don't even know...
'Mmmmm, Turkey heaven' - Cats
This is Ankara
Ankara, famous for its pristine beaches
We are going to brought sea to Ankara with this one
Got to be Türkiye, on my recent visit all you have to do is shake a bag of dry catfood and do the call (pspspsps) in a residential area and they come running from the crevices, Türkiye has a wonderful culture of care for strays that the local cats feel safe enough to approach and be petted. (Try this around 7pm onwards when it's cool enough as they usually sleep during the day when its too hot)
Wherever this is I'd like to buy a one way ticket to, please.
Nearly all of them are loafing, look how comfortable it looks
Definitely Turkey 🇹🇷 😻
Turkey … booking ticket now lol

Greece ?
Is it still like that? In the 90’s there were cats everywhere. Greece smelled like pee, cigarettes, armpits, and cats.
Edit. But I had a great time regardless. I loved Greece!
My friends went to Greece 5 years ago, and they made me a photo book of all the cat pictures they took there. So at least it was the same pre-pandemic.
I went to Greece about 2 years ago and there were cats everywhere in certain parts especially at night. It was amazing seeing so many cats and their kitties walking around with people
