We've dreaded this day for the past few months. Said goodbye to my 16 year old man this week.

I'm sorry for your loss. And I want to commend you on what I consider excellent parenting by having your children there so they know what it's like to have to make this life decision. When we had to unexpectedly euthanize our 9 yo Maine Coon, our daughter, who was 7 at the time, insisted on coming to the Emergency Vet's with us, and she held the cat while the procedure was being done. Afterwards, my husband, daughter and I went out to dinner and talked about what it means to lose a pet. As odd as it may sound, it's one of my proudest memories of time spent with my daughter.

I'm sorry for your loss, we had to put down my 19 year old Trouble yesterday. It's hard but at least we got to have those wonderful years with them.

I had to put my Marla down on August 24 and it was heartbreaking. She was 20 so it wasn’t like it was unexpected, but it was a sudden and dramatic turn.

I know I’m not over it even now. I don’t think I want to be. She was my daughter- my first daughter, and my human daughter was born the April before. Marla was my girl.

I keep her ashes on my dresser with her heating pad, her dish, a picture of us, the brush with her hair from the final brushy I ever gave her that day, and the collar she came with 8 years ago that we took off immediately.

I'm sorry for your cat I'm glad you got to spend wonderful moments with it and be there for it.

I've had 2 cats euthanized in a vets office and most recently my 16 year old dog euthanized at home which was such a different experience. I laid on the floor with her and talked to her the whole time and the room was full of love. As others have mentioned, I commend you for how you handled this for both your cat and your family.

My heart. I`m so sorry for your loss. You gave your little dude a long life. I also want to comment on having your children there. I volunteer with hospice and we always encourage children to be involved in the passing of a loved one(I know this is different, but is it really?).

This photo is so beautiful and raw and makes me tear up. I said goodbye to my 20 year old girl 2 years ago with a home send off to her forever sleep and it was one of the hardest days of my life. Bless these little babes.

I am so sorry for your loss. I had to help my precious little angel cross on Monday. She was 16 too. Such a difficult thing to have to do, but a promise we make that when the quality of life deteriorates, we won’t let them suffer. My babies was peaceful and I got to sing to her and hold her as she passed.
