Tell me about your ablation?

I have had to fight for years with doctors about my heavy periods. I tried every birth control even if it made me feel insane. Finally I found a doctor that listened to me and I have uterine ablation scheduled for next week. I’m done having kids and want to yeet my uterus into outer space but this will have to do. I would love to know your after ablation stories. Did it help?

For context, I just had an international flight on my period and even though I changed my S+ tampon every hour, I still bled through 2 pairs of shorts and 4 pairs of underwear in that time. Typically I feel like a prisoner in my home when I have those days. I’m beyond mentally done.

I had a "failed" ablation.

I've got stage 3 endometriosis. The ablation lessened my bleeding (I would fill a diva cup in an hour, for 2 straight weeks, was severely anemic and passed out a LOT) but I still bleed heavily. I had my tubes tied and am on birth control while waiting out the clock for a total hysterectomy.

This is rare, though. The procedure itself was fine. You're going to ooze a lot afterwards but other than that recovery was a breeze.

Me too. I did a D&C and an ablation together. It barely did anything for YEARS. Then when it finally started to lessen it was just perimenopause. Thanks scumbag body. Which also gave me endometriosis that went through my colon. It’s awful.

Not an ablation (that's the next step if this doesn't work) but I am in the midst of my first cycle on tranexamic acid and yo... the things I am realizing.

Like that it's normal to not need two types of period protection. Like it's normal to be able to swim on your period. Like it's normal to go all day without needing to empty your menstrual disc, or that pads really do last 4+ hours and you should remember to change them even if they aren't soaked.

I have no advice, but I hope it works for you so that you either never experience a period again, or you experience this level of normalcy.

Tranexamic acid didn't work on me. 🥲

It actually made my bleeding heavier if it had any effect at all. I started it on day 40 of intense heavy clotting and bleeding and my period kept going until day 67.

I'm now on day 48 of my 2nd period at 12 months postpartum and feeling kind of hopeless because I want one or two more babies.

Thank you for taking the time to validate. I can’t even imagine being able to swim whenever I want — I hope I can after this. Or not plan my entire day around having to be at home and near extra clothes. That would be freedom. I’m so happy you’re finding something that is helping!

I had an ablation in 2021 and had no issues after. My periods were so bad and I am glad to not have one anymore.

I’ve had two - the first was to diagnose and treat endo and the second was to assist with fertility, and included a bilateral salpingectomy. Both brought me relief but this year it’s started coming back. I’m starting a drug to put my body into menopause to see if the back pain is from endo. I’m hopeful it is. The thing is - for endo relief, I’d have to get ovaries and uterus taken out.

Ooof. I’m sorry it’s coming back. Our bodies are so complicated. I hope the transition to the new drug is smooth and you finally get some relief.

I'm looking into having one as soon as possible. Perimenopause has caused havoc on my cycle. It's not what I would consider extremely heavy but for a couple days there's a lot of gushing. I just went through iron infusions for anemia & I've had an endoscopy & colonoscopy that came out fine. So I'm hoping the ablation will help. Please update us after & let us know how it wenta

I’m desperate for one. After a year wait I’m finally seeing a GYN next week and I’m begging for one. I got an IUD last spring which saved my life as I was at 118 days of nonstop bleeding. I was filling a menstrual cup every hour, my ferritin was a 1.8. I have no idea how I was surviving.

Good luck with the new GYN! I had to be pretty pushy, which is ridiculous when it impacts our quality of life.

It’s unlikely I’ll be able to get it as I haven’t had any symptoms for many months now thanks to the IUD. I’m feeling pessimistic about this appt since there’s no current issue to solve.
