This is my first ever borderlands game, I chose to start with 3 because of people saying the story suckes compared to the others. I finished and liked the main story, mayham 11 mode has been really fun to run as Fl4K in the dlcs. Ive done both of the event (halloween and cartel) boss fights on m11 and those were pretty fun, same with the boss at the end of the podcast stuff. (Slaughterhouse 3000 can eat my ass). Im max level and just finished the compactor part of Handsome jackpot. (If anyone wants to play together im down, im also prob gonna get at least tiny tinas, pre-sequal and 2 so if anyone wants to play those together please hit me up.)
Yeah no, just the villain of Bl2 was better. The story wasn’t great or better than Bl3.
I think it’s nostalgia talking
The character assassination of Rhys & Vaughn was deplorable, Ava, & look at how 3 flubbed it's biggest character death vs 2's handling of the same thing. It's like that all the way down to the little details.
2's story is vastly, vastly better executed than 3's.
Troy dying first is a prime example of 3's poor writing, why even bother giving him his monologue to the vault hunter just for it to never pay off
Yeah, I find it odd how people are somehow saying BL3 is equal to the story of BL2.
It feels like with every game, people think it's somehow cool to defend a bad game, after years of consesous. It's always "It wasn't THAT bad", to "well, it was actually pretty good".
Yes, BL2 does not have the best writing, and BL3 had some good story beats. But that is far from saying BL3 had better writing overall. Borderlands series never prided itself on a good story, but on characters and gameplay. But what we got instead was...
Badly written jokes that would even diehard BL2 fans to avert their eyes. SO many characters completely misused, underused, or just thrown away. (Both new and old), parts that just didn't make sense, only to drag the game out.
Heck, I've gone through how that even parts of the non-story, ruined the game's writing in a different post. Let's not pretend the map designs were all that great, and God, Sanctuary 3 made me so pissed off...
Now, gameplay-wise? No arguments, there.
IMO BL2's gameplay was better-paced, but I dunno if I could stomach going through BL3 three times just to hit the level cap.
Otherwise I'm in full agreement: BL3's gunplay, character handling, skill structure and art design are absolutely phenomenal.
Slaughters are so fun, when played with other players anyway.
I believe #wherethefriendsat
Mechanics wise I hoped it would be better but it's been fun.
Simple stuff like pick loot up as junk, so you don't have to look at an junk item twice.
Multiple loadouts per character. Have you run just 1 Fl4k build the whole time?
Would it be nice to have 3-5 loadouts available when out of combat, without having to then reset the tree at base eveytime u wanna swap.
I have tried a couple diff fl4k builds, it sucks but ya gotta just reset your tree and take the time to put the points into stuff. Not like money is a problem, I always have max money in m11.
Yeah but would be nice to just hop into the eridium builds. Ur people killer build. Health Boss killer build. Corrosive build. And so on. This isn't the first or even 2nd game.
The 50 inventory space is tiny. Tom Clancys Division 2 is like 250. But stash space is about the same. But has 12 loadouts.
It’s pretty rare to see someone not throwing shit on the story. I enjoyed it a lot and I also liked the humor, in the end it’s a borderlands game so the story isn’t the best. People be acting like Borderlands 2 story was peak while it was just ok just like in 3.
The thing that Bl3’s story sucks has become so popular that people are afraid to say that they enjoyed it Imo.
I really feel like they could've made the story better by having Troy betray Tyreen. It's hinted that he doesn't like how she treats him early on in Eden-6.
Didn’t he, though? During the fight with him, she’s being drained of power and complains about the pain. That didn’t seem like they were teaming up to me
Not really. He wasn't gonna kill her.
I thought I got into the series late as I didn't start playing until 2 was released. I played 1 and some of 2 on PS3. The first game I picked up when I bought a PS4 was the Handsome Collection. I had several thousands of hours into BL2 when 3 finally came out. It's worth noting, going back to 2 after playing 3 is quite jarring. The first thing that will mess you up is no auto pick up. The controls feel loose and are hard to get used to. Drop rates will piss you off. A legendary in Borderlands 2 is what it says it is, a legendary, meaning you will have to kill the same boss 150 times to get a bad version of the drop you're looking for. If like the rest of us, you thought Eden 6 was aomg drawn out area, get ready for that on every map in BL2.
Too bad you’re not on Xbox lol, they had every game besides tiny tina on sale for 30 bucks with all the dlc
I love the game it just keeps crashing when you try to play with your friends an then it finally lets you play after a couple times tryna.. I like story mode also there all fun to play in my opinion
Glad you loved BL3. I'd go right to BL2 after this. BL1 is also definitely worth playing as well if you love the series, though keep in mind that there is almost zero story, and the game will feel extremely bare-bones compared to later entries.
That said, the gameplay is straightforward but still fun, and I'm literally in the middle of a One-Life Snipers Only Mordecai as we speak, so it's still worth playing.
I would completely skip Wonderlands. I think it's by far the worst Borderlands title there is. See my full writeup here if you want a comparison of Wonderlands VS Borderlands 3. It basically takes everything BL3 does well and flushes it down the toilet.
Wonderlands is so bad. And a lot of people really like it, I just don't get it at all. I'm so stoked for 4 but also a bit worried tbh if it's anything like ttwl I'll be gutted.
Because wonderlands is good game. Just a spin off meant for a bit different audience of endgame.
That's a matter of opinion. I thought it was rubbish.
This is a matter of opinion also. I thought it was fantastic. I also think Borderlands 3 is fantastic. This is all subjective.
The calypsos are the worst villains EVER and the thought of them actually uniting bandit clans is RIDICULOUS. Tyreen is beyond annoying. I wish I could kill her and wear her coat tho. That thing is sick.
The thing that you feel hate towards the calypsos means that they are not as bad as you think as characters
idk about that... Im on my first playthrough of 3 and the main reason i want to kill them is about 1% revenge and 99% that theyre annoying af. Making villians incredibly annoying is about the cheapest way to make players hate the villian. (that being said i am enjoying the game very much)
Yeah, worst story, most fun gameplay. My husband hates 3. He hates scifi guns lol. He likes 1. I thought the way they handled elements in 1 was better. Sniping in 3 is fkn useless without a partner to get the enemy to come out, so that sucks.
In all fairness to the game, the story isn't bad. I just hate how it holds your hand the entire game, and every other objective is talk to an NPC. Reliance and the machine in nekrotafeyo as the worst offender.
The main reason people dislike the story is because bl2 story was just better. The main villain is just better than the Calypso twins.
I've played through both games multiple times, and I definitely prefer bl2's story, but bl3's endgame. You get a lot more variety on builds with bl3.
