Break My soul is the weakest song from renaissance- change my mind.
Break My soul is the weakest song from renaissance- change my mind.
you’ve never quit a toxic job and blasted break my soul on the way home and it shows 🥲
This song dropped literally the week I eviscerated my manager and the HR rep giving me my exit interview when I quit my toxic job without a two week notice to move onto a new job. I felt personally seen and heard by Beyonce 😂
Similar experience here, the song was released the DAY that management announced a new comp plan which would cap my earnings at $20k less than I’d been making. I had a new job lined up within 2 weeks. I was struttin all over town to BMS. Cathartic.

Good bot.
The lyrics "release your job" are transformative.
listening to it while working at a toxic job is so empowering
This song was so cathartic it was all over LinkedIn. Out of all places, LinkedIn!!
As I drove away with my babies at 4am to leave my physically verbally abusive husband 🙌🏽😭
Or worked through covid in healthcare when this song came out
Truth
I fell in love and quit my job the summer BMS came out. It will always hold a special place in my heart.

Dropped the week I decided not too reenlist in the Navy! A true cannon event for me
What if ive been let go, can I still blast it in my car? 😂
So which song is the weakest of the album? 🧐
Lol! I don't care. Anyway, I enjoy all of them, some more than others; but it doesn't matter cuz the entire album brings me joy. Queen Bey stays on our necks, and I am grateful.
AUIYM is the least streamed of the album
I dunno why you’re getting downvotes for saying facts about streaming numbers. Just because the numbers are the lowest doesn’t mean this person doesn’t like the song.
Right? People are so defensive over their favs it’s scary 😩.
Cuz it doesn't matter to most fans. I know I don't care to look up what songs are the most streamed of ANY artist I love. I havent cared about charting since I was a teenager, a long time ago. It's a non-factor. The music is what matters.
One of my favorites

The best song wasn’t the single.
Tbh her singles usually never are the best songs.
XO we are looking right at your ass.
I'll die alone on the XO hill
Drunk In Love would like to have a word.
Formation would also like one…
They aren’t supposed to be that’s how you know she’s an album’s artist
I think she does this on purpose
But you couldn't turn your radio down 🤷🏽♀️
and you weren’t either 🍑🍋🟩
Living in Ladera Heights…
Ugh so true. The problem when it does equate to a degree of what the population will like to move the record. Annoying politics of business. This album has so many gold nuggets
I get so sad when people don’t like this song. It was SUCH a balm for me and my friends that summer. I get emotional listening to it still sometimes. So many good memories of long summer walks and drives playing it and leaning into its energy. If possible, I liked it EVEN more hearing it in the context of the record. And it was such a highlight on the tour. She walked right by us when the Vogue sample played. 😭
Yes!!! And when the single came out I had just recently fallen in love and quit my old job. So it felt kind of cosmic in a way
I love this 🖤
Same exact thing for me. I hated my job and was so in love. Spoke to my soul
I honestly didn't like it as a single, but in context with the rest of the album, it's actually super solid. Then again, I can't think of another track that would've been a better lead single off of Renaissance.
Exactly
Renaissance does not work without Break My Soul.
Valid- very true.
Yeah I would say it’s the thesis statement of the whole album (along with I’m That Girl… but Break My Soul is more important).
When "Break My Soul" dropped as the first single, my reaction was that it was a) so 90s and b) SO gay. So when the album dropped and it was wall-to-wall dance music—throwback and forward thinking—and queer as fü₵k, I was elated and really felt like "Break My Soul" had perfectly prepared me for it.
Agreed
this is why she don't come outside no more....
I just got here and I brought my tennis shoes LOLOL. Are the weak tracks in the room with us?
The only way I accept anything here remotely is when comparing to the tour version which EATS.
I don't believe there's a weak track present. There are songs I sorta weren't so into at first then started to love more, Case : Virgo Groove. I thought it was fine, but then one day I was really vibing and it caught me...
I've heard BMS the most, like TexasHoldEm, so it has waned on me slightly but they both are still beautiful songs...for me. But BMS is an anthem. Its giving Formation but into this new era and paying homage to the great dance music.
LMFAO the gif tho

All I'll say is that when the rankings game comes for Rennaissance this song is in contention to be my vote for the "worst" category even though I like it a lot.
Break My Soul has set the whole tone for Renaissance. Fight me
oh that's not-
I don't personally think it's the absolute weakest, but I would also put it on the lower end if I had to do a ranking. However, I think it works really well in the context of the album. The Cuff It - Energy - Break My Soul run is fantastic.
It's literally the only song in mainstream pop culture that captured the zeitgeist of the pandemic and the Great Resignation (and the relationship fallouts spurred by both) while paying ode to 90s house music.
What more could anyone ask for?
Valid
I think maybe we just get “sick “ of them
and Texas hold em was the weakest on CC...I think she knows thts y she dropped them as singles
Both Break My Soul and Texas Hold'em are both songs that are core to their respective album's genre. I think the whole point of each of the single drops is that Beyonce is saying the blending of genres makes for better, more complex music.
completely and utterly agree however unfortunately they also fail to raise the roof for lack of a better phrase
Im ngl although Texas Hold Em isnt my favorite on CC, its still a banger to me. I still play it quite a lot when playing individual songs off the album, and is actually still one of my most played songs on the album. It makes me sad that most people mention that they tend to skip it now
I don't skip it everyyyy time but usually yes....now I have a question for u one gotta go Texas hold em or 16 carriages?
Damn…If I HAD to pick one of the two to go…it would be Texas Hold Em. Which would usually be an odd choice for me bc 1. I usually tend to gravitate towards Beyonce’s more fast pace or danceable music more than her slower songs or ballads (that’s not me saying I don’t like them though) but I do prefer 16 Carriages a bit more overall and also 2. When both singles dropped, I instantly liked Texas Hold Em but 16 Carriages had to grow on me. Now 16 Carriages is my favorite of the two
Texas hold ‘em got a bit overplayed for me and that killed that song for me. I always skip it when listening to CC
Nahhh how can you say that when Levi’s Jeans exists
Levii Jeans is my jam! I love that song
Nonsensical slander. Levi’s is such a comfy groove.
u twippin twippin leviis jeans is a masterpiece bouta go give it 10 more streams bc u hurt it's feelings 😞
Texas holdem feels like a really cheap cheesy statement so i agree there but break my soul is like the centerpiece of renaissance
You WON’T break my soul!
They hated Jesus because he told the truth
I was born on Christmas. 🤠
THAT’S RIGHT OP
I cannot with these comments 😂
Why can't BeyHive distinguish personal taste from overal review? There are no weak songs on Renny.
NO.
i’m still blasting it to this day
It's not the best on the album, but the worst??? you trippin lol.
Listen to the acapella version. Edit: My love for the song didn't start till I heard it.
I would not consider any of the songs on this album weak. Some are just not in my top faves. 🤷🏽♀️ BMS is a positive, hype song but it’s not my go-to all the time. But listen, I consider this whole album one big song because it’s a masterpiece and I cannot listen to it without playing the whole album.

Completely agree.
Renaissance is a perfect album, change my mind.
Most correct response
I didn’t like it as a stand alone track but fits perfectly as an album. I had like an “ah-ha!” moment when I listened to it through non stop.
Absolutely
This song did make me quit my day job to be a full time cam girl lmao 💰
I didn’t love BMS at first but it’s divine in the context of the album. It’s not my favourite but it would be missed if it wasn’t there. Also the performance of BMS at the RWT is iconic and one of the best moments!!!!

Plastic Off the Sofa is right there…
fighting words girl
I’m sorry but I skip tf outta that song every time 😭 at best I skip to the end of the song to hear the transition into Virgo’s Groove lol
I love this song so much, but I agree it’s one of the weakest on the album, just because the others are that good. I think plastic off the sofa is weaker though, it’s my only skip on the album
I have to agree, when it came out as a single i got really scared for the album bc i did not fuck with BMS at ALL. Hearing it in the album kinda clicked for me and i finally ”got it” watching the renny film. Still the weakest one on the album.

After hearing the entire album it did not stand up. It is probably my second least played track. First being Plastic Off the Sofa.
But it was good enough to draw me in. I loved the elements of “Show Me Love” by Robin S… 90s throwback
POTS?! Unh, unh.. I had to fight HARD not to downvote you for that 😩😭
I got her for you don’t worry
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I really try not to downvote anything not rooted in straight up racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia or like a downright lie cause we're all entitled to our (even awful) opinions but like.... how disgusting of her to say!
Live it was great but I cannot sit through it knowing Virgos Groove is next.

Nah, hearing it live and with a stadium full of people proved to me she 100% made the right choice as the lead and it’s a banger.
Break my soul helped me go through two years of hell as a flight attendant. 😂
For me, it doesn't have the staying power of most other tracks off the album. BUT it was such a moment during tour shows! The energy both onstage and from the crowds like every show were beautiful, even for saddies like me who only watched video lol
I’m sitting there on that table with you friend
I have to say, I have a hard time getting into the song. Fun live, but I do prefer the remix. It’s by far the song I skip the most from Renaissance
👍
?????? Wrong post? Did you get a little lost?
I disagree!
Agreed! I think it fits in the album but as a stand alone single it wasn’t my fav
I agree even though it’s a great song. That album is just that good.
We do we need to reduce her work to arbitrary measurements like this? We each have our own reactions and opinions about each song, the journey is different for everyone. Enjoy the album how you want to enjoy it. Trying to find “weak” spots is a weird way to celebrate an artist you admire.
Zero lies spotted
Agreed and Texas Hold 'Em is also one of CC's weakest songs
It took a while for it to grow on me! I prefer the remix for sure. Now I love both versions.
I’m sorry but it’s about to become my anthem on Tuesday.
True
damn truth really does hurt
I just wish it was more HOUSE CLASSIQUE versus CALL and RESPONSE….
She really does have the voice/tone for DEEP soul house akin to Barbra Tucker and the like (sigh…)
Maybe one day..
Yep!
I don’t know if it’s weak per say but definitely sounded better within the context of the album
if single maybe…but next to energy:)
Wow, wow
I used to think so, but when this song was played with her arse shakin down the travellator, I just lost my mind.
In that one pink/purple tyedye dress. It felt like the jiggle might explode the dress.

Nah, Church Girl is. The top 4 songs would be Virgo’s Groove, Heated, Thique, Plastic on the sofa. But I literally love every song on the album.
2nd weakest. AUIYM still doesn’t hit whereas the handful that weren’t faves before grew on me with time.

i always liked the queens remix better
I'm gonna get cancelled for that but:
No, it's Cuff It
I love cuff it. My car lock sound is Beyoncé saying ‘cuff it up’
Are you well
You're entitled to your very wrong opinion I guess
No ur right
Thique and church girl exist?
No that’s incorrect. It’s the most commercial song on the album as it was the lead single, so it was played a lot more and for that reason it doesn’t seem as good as the other songs. But oh my god once you appreciate it you will see why she chose it to lead. Just wow.
And no I cannot give a weaker song. That question doesn’t exist on renaissance
Unnecessary negativity…that’s not what I follow this subreddit for
For me personally, it’s MOVE. I have it muted on Spotify
You are CORRECT 😀
Move is literally right there
I mean summer renaissance exists…
I actually couldn’t stand that song when it came out. Did I SCREAM sing it at renaissance? Yes. Do like it now? No. It’s one of those songs that gives off a vibe when it’s played. If it played at a party? I’m on the floor. Anywhere else? I’m MAD.
Just be human on any day that ends in Y
I don’t think any song is weak from Renaissance and I actually liked the song more in the context of the album.
No.
Overplayed? Yes. Weakest? You outta your fucking mind and we shouldn’t worry about changing it.
Agreed
As a single I wasn’t impressed, but it’s absolutely necessary for it to be on the album!!
Same!
This is 100% correct. Gives me too many Robin S vibes, heard that song wayy to much since the 90s.
Nah that's Church Girl
If I’m doing a play thru… this is my only skip I’m so sorry 😭
Break My Soul isnt the weakest but its down there in some of my least played off the album when playing individual songs. I really only listen to it when I play the album as a whole which lowkey isn’t often.
I find Plastic Off the Sofa and Church Girl to be weaker songs than BMS though. I listen to Church Girl sometimes but I pretty much always skip POTS.

plastic off the sofa is the weakest bxtch
you spelled Church Girl wrong
You’re right and you should say it. I still do not understand why it was chosen to be a single when every other song is stronger than it.
This and Church girl
Church Girl is right there but ok
I do like this song, however I think it's funny because after watching her documentaries it sounds like she creates a toxic work environment herself if staff doesn't keep up with her work ethic.
"I don't believe 'in I need sleep'. if I'm not sleeping, nobody's sleeping" - Beyonce
🤷♀️
it’s actually cuff it if we’re being real.
Bro Cuff It was right there. Basic ass song lol shit was just slopped together from outdated leftovers
You're entitled to your opinion. Church Girl imo is the weakest song on the album, and one of the worst songs I've ever heard in my entire life from any artist of any genre in any language. The song is just godawful garbage and I refuse to acknowledge it as a song that actually exists.
EXCUSE ME? Take it back…. TAKE IT BACK!!!!
TAKE IT BACK.
😂😂😂
I will do nothing of the sort, if this truly is a "safe space" then my opinion should be as valid as all the people who like the song. And I love Bey too but not everything she does is golden, NOBODY is perfect.
That is YOUR opinion.
Which is my opinion, the fact that Church Girl sucks or the fact that nobody is perfect? Coz one of those is my opinion and the other is an objective fact.
You seem insufferable. I was playing at first. But you clearly are always on one… constantly… during all moments of life.
I'm always on one what?
And lol relax I was just asking coz I know some hive members truly believe our gurl Bey is perfect, I just don't think it's healthy to have that level of delusion obsession with someone that's all.
the weakest is church girl but that’s not a conversation people are ready to have
I am not ready
Idk why we acting like All up in ur mind doesn’t exist on that album. It needs to go somewhere else. If All Up In Your Mind spoke at Reneighs school assembly in Mean Girls I would’ve been the one to say “SHE DOESNT EVEN GO HERE”
Right at the bottom with Church Girl. Instant skip every time.
I can literally name 14 songs worse than BMS on that album 👀
