it kinda icks me lang na some beauty content creators and pro makeup artists have gotten too entitled that they openly mock the consumers. although i appreciate that some of them just sincerely want to "educate". i just noticed that some of them invalidate the consumers' experience and they take it negatively when people share their experiences with the product.

for example, the issy gelee tint. issy mat not have marketed the product as "true to its color tint" or "nude tints", yet most creators hyped that product with those statements. ofcourse, consumers would believe it, then if they share about their honest experience about the product, imomock nyo and sasabihan na "di nagthithink"??? as if they don't play a big part in influencing the consumers (but i also acknowledge the fact that as consumers, we have to do our own research)

can i also just say that brutally honest reviews don't have to be rudely delivered.

This isn’t a commentary to op but on the topic:

On the flip side I wanna say for me personally, reviews only help about 5-10% of the time cos it will still boil down to my own experience.

For example, I rarely see good reviews ng barenbliss powder — I think only projectvanity likes it as much as I do and we’re probably in the minority about it but I wouldn’t know that I like it for sure until I tried it. I think people forget na there’s always a chance na our experiences will be different.

And I have to say some reviews not just the positives but also negatives are way too overblown sometimes for the sake of being recognized as honest reviews.

I specifically remember a cc na kitang kita directly tinap nya yung glitters on the cream side ng palette and by the end of the video sinabi nya ayun she disliked how andaming nag transfer sa creams but I saw you did it on purpose?¿ anyway I digress.

On the context of budol culture:

Beh let’s be real — Ikaw nag checkout non, kahit dahil na ✨influence ✨ka for buying it ikaw pa din nag checkout nun beh. I’m gonna guess and take it further — baka hindi mo pa nga yun kailangan talaga. Pero if nagpa budol ka then it’s also not right to put the blame entirely (that’s the keyword here - entirely) on other people. There’s just no exact science on this. I get that it’s frustrating, you won’t really know talaga unless you tried it. Even cult favorites may not work for you and we can choose to be at peace with that risk.

Don’t get me wrong research is okay and watching reviews is okay, I do it too. Look out for your personal non negotiables - mine is yung mga may packaging issue. Pera mo yun eh sino ba gustong masayangan ng pera for constantly looking for stuff that works best.

Pero baka nga naman sa application, sa tools na ginamit, sa skincare, sa skin type, sa weather, sa activity, or dahil di sila bati ng base product mo. Baka yung product lang talaga. Baka you just need a great setting spray.

Jelly’s delivery is obviously not for everyone (could’ve worded it better imo), he’s probably biased, maybe not, but there’s truth there eh.

Focus on what you can control and that’s exploring many ways to make a product work, try changing it up (heck that’s the fun of makeup anyways), subscribe to people with similar skin type as you do, you look up to, you think is honest yadda yadda rather than raging and moaning about oh another hyped product that I bought and didn’t work for me and then start the cycle all over again.

If di talaga gumana, find a way to declutter it. Recoup some money di man lahat at least may balik. You already paid for the experience.

but yeah, i agree with your point. at the end of the day, we have full control of what we will take and not from their contents.

i also understand that he was only trying to give us tips and techniques on how to make a product work aside from the conventional way of applying it. maybe, i'm just coming from a point where i believe that makeup is not a one-size fits all, so if it doesn't work for someone, i don't think he should be too snobbish about it and mock the opinion of the consumers just because he is a pro.

Agree with everything here. Kaya nga I rarely watch influencer/first impression videos all the way through. I check out shades, texture, finish, packaging, etc., but I don’t pay attention to anything they say about its “performance” because let’s face it, this is TikTok. Bite-sized content - wala ka naman talagang mailalaman na may substance dyan. Gone are the days of beauty content creators reviewing things after weeks of experimenting under different circumstances. And I don’t blame them for it, that’s not what social media platforms and audiences call for these days. I’m also not saying they lie or embellish for views, just that ultimately, you and I will have different experiences with the same product because of SO many factors. I believe yun lang naman talaga ang sinasabi ni Jelly, yun nga lang may pagka-snarky since he probably thinks he is superior and knows better because he’s a MUA.
