[Highlight] Bryce Harper tumbles hard over the railing and goes right back onto the field.
Bryce at first will be good for his health and career.
Bryce at first:
He had another catch attempt last year where he threw his body at the ball like this IIRC.
Pretty sure that was his first ever game at 1B too
Sure was. Got to see it happen in person, I was terrified for him
It was. I remember watching that and just gaining so much respect for him
That was reckless. Hope he learns now to play first before he gets hurt. Easily coulda reached for that ball without leaving his feet.
The one today was a little less reckless but that’s his home park. He should know not to lean over that short wall.
That was literally his first game at the position to be fair
People were praising him for it too. That’s absurd to play like that in the first inning of a non playoff game
I am absolutely begging this dude to try a little less hard
How I’ve felt about Tatis every year he’s been on the field lol. Dude your body is worth $340 million, keep it intact plsssss
Don’t worry he’ll ease up when it’s a contract year. wait. He’s signed for how long? RIP.
I’m glad he came out ok from that, he went flying. You can probably list off like 10 different injuries that could have come from that.
Right, what the fuck?
Bryce: Hold my beer
I get the fence is low for the camera but it is at the exact level where if you run into it with any force you’ll flip over it. Needs to be at waist level like the rest of the dugout. You can put a platform under the cameras. That’s how it is on the third base side.
It's crazy to me that teams design home ballparks with features that are such clear hazards to their hundred-million-dollar investments. I've always thought outfield walls and railings should have like 3x as much padding
I think the issue with adding more padding to the wall is that any ball hit off it would just die.
Also, padding can be very grabby, so you run the risk of a fielder jumping to make a catch and getting their foot caught on the way down, which could be very bad.
Yeah if you see a big league padded fence up close they are full of little rips and holes from baseball spikes. There are safety concerns with the padding being too thick too. There needs to be a little firmness for the foot to push off of, unless guys just stop trying to climb the fence.
Agreed, i've always felt the right field wall at Fenway is too low and dangerous
Seriously, it being a knee level for any of the players seems so stupid
Bryce it's the second game, I really don't need to have a heart attack rn
For real. Was legit concerned, especially after the replay. I would’ve broken my back in three places doing that…
The reaction of the people around him had me worried, when he didn't pop right back up and they started acting like something was wrong. Glad he came out of it more or less unscathed.
I shit my pants I’ll be honest
Dude is tough as nails; I'd been in bed for six weeks.
I would’ve just died on the spot.
I feel like I coulda walked away tbh
I have become aware of my tongue in my mouth and now I'm not sure it fits
I almost died watching it.
I'm hurting just watching it
I forgot to breathe for a couple minutes
I shit my pants, as well. That wall will probably be raised up soon.
My stomach dropped.
Me too and I'm still sitting in my doodoo pants
I mean, you know that hurt like all hell.
I fucking hate when he does this
Is...is this a regular occurrence?
He did it last year too
they really need to raise that railing
That camera man definitely did
That could have been really bad
What’s wild to me is the ball landed way behind him
I think it hit the screen and bounced back towards the field before landing.
Yeah 100%, in the replay you can see it's coming in at an off angle from bouncing off the screen
This needs to be pinned.
I was so confused when he flipped and the ball was so far into the field of play.
I realized what happened, but still was laughing at the thought of him giving that effort just to be way off where the ball was landing.
that ball just had a great sense of comedic timing
My first thought too....like you misread that bad...oh the screen got it lmao
He was three inches away from being out for a year
That’s what I tell my wife
Was terrified at first, happy he’s okay
A reminder that once Bryce was benched for “not hustling” on a groundout to first.
Also, choked by the DC Strangler
hey Bryce let’s not do that sorta thing okay??
Why is that railing so low? Glad he popped back up
For the Cameras
It doesn't need to be that low, it's a safety risk. Keep the fence hip high like the dugouts, raise the floor in the camera well.
damn did the trainer push the camera man away?
That's what I saw, like chill. Getting to Harper 3 seconds quicker wasn't going to change anything. Just go around the camera man.
Watching live that looked real bad.
Fuck I saw this live and was worried he was seriously hurt
Seems kinda dangerous to have a wall that's too short to lean against
It took him a little bit to get up. Was concerned for a minute there. Foul ball in the camera well ain’t worth hurting yourself, Bryce. Glad he’s ok
absolutely frightening to watch. hope he's fine
Yeah.. let’s put in a better railing..
One that’s higher so it doesn’t kneecap players like this, but one with cutouts where cameras can be poisitiomed to continue getting the shots.
It’s crazy to me that professionals think “yep, this is good enough, can’t go wrong and there is zero solution to fixing this potential problem before it happens”
So uh, ballpark construction project next road trip I’m guessing?
Either way, Bryce is tough as hell, this is just another example.
Bryce’s xDAWG is off the charts, as usual
He took out some spatial awareness points to put in xDAWG by the looks of it, seeing as the ball plopped behind him like a second after he flew into the dugout
Yeah, that tends to happen when it hits off the screen.
Oh, it hit off the screen.
My reality was funnier when I thought he had just completely misread it and flew into the dugout for no reason
I mean, it wouldn’t be the first time he’s done dumb shit in the dugout, nor the second, so I can’t blame you.
That was very scary. I hate the Phillies, but glad that Harper was alright.
And the hearts of every Phillies fan dropped to their ass
That’s Nats Bryce coming out
Man that looked scary watching in realtime. Glad to see he was okay.
Dude would literally be safer in the outfield. Should’ve kept Hoskins to play 1B
this shit is hilarious. charging full send into the dugout, head over heels, then the ball plops on the warning track behind him
glad hes okay.
Yeah that ball had excellent comedic timing
Cameraman almost got knocked over too lol
On the broadcast they showed the floor of that camera section and it was just a metal grate with holes that looked almost perfect enough for a finger to fit through or get jammed. Glad he seems okay, that was scary to watch.
What are the odds that low rail gets a little higher in the future?
Constantly tried to use an OF wall to murder himself. Now he's doing this. If he stayed at catcher at least he would've had armor to protect himself from.... himself
oh my god please be careful bryce
The only misfortune i won't wish on the rivals are injuries. Glad to see he's okay
U/savevideo
I was very worried seeing this initially, legit thought he landed straight on his head. Was glad to see him up and ok so quickly!
first of all why is that fence so low. second of all Bruce is going to be in a wheel chair by the time he turns 50. third of all the trainers yoinking the camera guy out of the way. and lastly I couldn’t help but chuckle at the way the ball just lands on the grass at the very end while Bryce has disappeared from view.
As a Braves fan this was one of those “Ha look at him go!…….,oh shit I hope he’s not injured that actually looked bad…..,ah his bitch ass looks alright look at him go!”
"With all this money we're paying you, we need you to try less hard!"
-Phillies
You would think after Rowan’s slam in the outfield when they upped the safety this would have been thought of…
Right back out. He's a hockey player.
Bryce is such a baller - wonderful to watch unless he hits bombs off the Braves. This is the kinda shit that is both respectable and frustrating. Glad he didn't get injured but I bet he's feeling it. I love the dude.
Bryce is a fucking dog
RIP Bruce Hooper
I’m glad that he seems to be okay, not just because ya hate to see a guy hurt but also because it’s really funny how the ball bloops behind him as he’s completely upside down
dont be scared of the fence
How about so padding on the concrete?!
It's funny to see the baseball bounce on the field afterwards
Yes! So glad!
Absolute disrespect for his own body
Knucklehead
