What's Your Preferred Grocery Delivery App in Bangalore, and Why?

Hello fellow Bangalore residents, I find myself in a bit of a dilemma - I'm not sure which grocery delivery app is the best to use. I've compiled a list of potential options but I'm having trouble making a decision. One of my main priorities is receiving top quality products. In the event that something isn't up to par, Il'd like to ensure that the refund process is hassle-free. Moreover, I also want to ensure that there are no discrepancies with the weights of the items delivered. l'd greatly appreciate your experiences and suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Very small sized potatoes
Cauliflower has got spots everywhere
Received gentleman's fingers, but I ordered lady's

Got the refund partially.

If I need something urgently, I use blinkit cos they almost always deliver within 8-9 minutes.

If I'm okay waiting for 30 minutes I use Swiggy Instamart or Zepto since they offer free delivery (above 150 iirc).

If I'm okay recieving the products the next day, I use Amazon fresh since 5% cashback on ICICI credit card.

So basically all are a compromise between cost and speed, you can choose which is more important to you.

Always get decent products on all, but Swiggy seems to be better than the rest when it comes to fresh veggies. Refunds are good with all, except one bad experience with Amazon once over a wrong item. But they sorted it out after 2 days so no major issues.

I've used pretty much all of them, but big basket had the worst quality products, especially fruits and vegetables, recently their fresh produce quality has increased but others are just meh and prices are comparatively high. Big basket is inconsistent with their quality, availability of items delivery time, overall i avoid it. Swiggy insta Mart has the best quality products especially fruits and vegetables, never disappointed, their fresh produce prices are a bit higher than local stores but it will make up for the high quality of the products, they also have easy refund process too, their quality has been consistent and reliable and if items are missing there's an option to replace it, so that's a win in my books.

Thanks for letting me know this. I have experience with Amazon because I used to place order on that app. Can you let me know how is the refund policy these days? Do you have to reject them while the time of delivery if it is found out that the items are bad? I used to return or get the full money refunded if let's say tomatoes are bad. How is it working now?

Swiggy Insta veggies are great - fresh and good quality. I use Blinkit for imported stuff - they have a lot of brands not found on other platform like Reese.

I don't use them anymore. There are a couple of grocery stores and small shops that are about 10 minutes by walk from my house. I find the quality and cost to be simply better.

I'm an outlier here; used these grocery delivery apps just a couple of times during the pandemic. There are 4 supermarkets within a 300m radius of my home, including those of Tata and Reliance. Going there and getting the things feels more convenient.

How do you feel about pickup/takeaway? Like placing orders on an app and then going to the store and just getting it?

Have done it a couple of times on the DMart app, but I'm so used to shopping at the store going through the shelves. Moreover I feel it's better to pick fruits and veggies myself.

It's mostly Reliance Smart, with a huge area spread over 2 floors and decent aisle space which makes the experience better. There's also Tata's Star Market, which is usually more crowded. I haven't browsed through online prices lately, but would say it's more or less the same for most items. There's a 'sale' section at Smart which most of the times have whear flour/sugar at 10/kg. I feel going to the store controls impulse buying that usually happens due to convenience of the online apps/delivery. Prior to the pandemic it was DMart that I would visit a few kms away and would be very cost effective, there's one branch opening a km away in about an year, so mostly I'll shift there again.

Tata have their own branded products in spices, sauce and other consumables, which are priced a bit lower. Also on the 1+1 or 2+1 offers at Reliance you can just pick one at the divided combined price, which I don't think is allowed online. Also, both these have pulses, rice etc. available loose, which turns out cheaper than pre-packed.

Noticed this thing where online apps don't have all the things in one single app. One has two flavours of pringles, other has two. Many a times things are out of stock.

It seems like they always show the things that are eating a lot of space in the warehouse. Once at a hyperbazar I saw that kiwis were quoted 50 rupees per 3 units which is really cheap and I could see a lot of them sitting on the shelf.

Ordered consistently from big basket for 3 years. The quality of the groceries is tier-1, fresh produce quality is not up to the mark.

Shifted to D-Mart home delivery a couple of months back, the quality is top notch and there's a significant price difference in items such as rice, oil, atta etc. Cons: Dmart doesn't offer merchant discounts on cards like bigbasket & blinkit do.

May I ask why Zepto is not on your list?

Also, Zomato just takes you to Blinkit, if I am not wrong.

Personally, I alternate between Swiggy Instamart and Zepto. Delivery times for both of them these days are about 30-40 minutes in my area as opposed to 15-20 minutes, which their marketing is based on. But that's due to high demand. Quality, I'd say, is decent in both. In cases where I receive subpar products, I initiate a complaint and receive a complete refund almost immediately. I haven't tried the other services because I haven't felt the need to. Haven't tried ordering meat yet but I have heard that Licious is good.

Walking to the grocery shop Have observed that fresh fruits and veggies are always almost cheaper than online apps, atleast where I stay And I get in a short walk that way and also interact with the vendor

no one app is good at all things, you will probably need to use multiple apps. Almost all of them have stopped giving discounts by now so it is no longer cost effective to buy from them btw. And issues like wrong items, stale items, less weight than expected occur sometimes with all the ones I have tried. Swiggy Instamart, Bigbasket, Grofers etc i have used these a lot in past but now only for packaged items because they fuck up the fresh produce and fruits way too often

Bigbasket Jiomart FTH (for many items they give great prices and good quality)

For urgent stuff bbnow, zepto or dunzo. Blinkit's delivery charges is a turn off.

Local shop early morning, when they have the fresh ones arrived. The touch and the feel is needed to determine if they are of good quality.

Cost wise I don't see much of a difference, since I buy only in small quantities.

Never used any grocery app. I just got to nearby store and pick it my self. After a long day of work short walk and small talk with the owner gives me some relief.

I use Big Basket via Tata Neu app.

BB delivers within 20mins (fastest was 10mins) as their darkstore is close to my apartment.

I also get 5% cashback on Tata Neu app.

I won't recommend any app for vegetables and fruits though. It is better to buy from a shop nearby.

Protip: bigbasket has 30min app called bbnow, it usually has greater option than others. But if speed is priority, blinkit.

Try Dmart app, that’s cheapest of all. You will get quality products at max discount. 49₹ fixed delivery fee is there but you will save more than 500₹ on order of 2K

For everything except vegetables/fruits, I go with Flipkart for monthly orders (price is lesser than anywhere else for dals, oil etc but takes 2-3 days for delivery) and Bigbasket for smaller orders in the middle of the month (great selection, quick deliveries with BBnow).
Bigbasket is pretty good with refunds and the executives double-check the order before delivery so you won't have missing items. They used to be excellent for fresh veggies as well but not anymore. Their physical stores (called Fresho) have a good produce selection though.
You can also get veggies delivered from simplinamdharis if you have a store near you.

Milk Basket. No question asked - return. Good price, good products, they come and leave at your door, you can add your products will 11:59 pm and will get delivered by 7 am next day. But I guess they only deliver in gated societies

It would be Blinkit for me, I have had orders delivered in 5-8 mins. If some items are not there on Blinkit then I go to instamart, that also delivers the orders under 15 mins
