I feel like people could be a little more aware of making room on crowded trains. When people are trying to get in you move to the middle of the car and take off your backpack. You don't stand directly in front of the door when there's a horde coming in and there's plenty of space in the middle
I'm sorry, me and gigantic rucksack I have zero spatial awareness of, have claimed this space by the door, so you'll have to use another one.
This has always been a problem but I feel its worsened post pandemic - It seems there's a whole new generation of subway riders who don't effin get it including those who pout their feet on seats other people will sit on and of course, the subhuman trash who play tiktoks, IG stores, music and facetime conversations...no, holding the phone close to ear is not minimizing the invasiveness.
Oh they get it, they just don’t gaf
i think also with return to office people have gotten out of the habit
I never understood why some people are insistent on keeping on their backpacks when boarding a train. I used to wear one when going to college and I always took mine off when I saw the train approaching.
The backpacks and not moving are one thing, but people taking a front-facing seat and leaving the one near the window open, making you awkwardly crawl into that seat is also I see something daily on crowded trains. Not to mention people who still put their backpacks on the seat near them
I watched someone physically grip the coat of another person today and push him into the 7, because there was room in the middle. It was tense. I get wanting people to move away from the doors, as 2000 people were waiting to get onto the 7, but physically pushing was something I’ve never seen like this before. Awful.
Train conductor just announced that service to Manhattan has resumed.
And a new conductor just announced that it'll depend, and they'll let us know for sure at Queensboro. Sigh.
Oof. Yeah I got off at queensboro anyway but the 7 is fucking packed
Every day. Bozos.
That’s why we should take the clown car instead.
Yeah at Astoria Blvd and haven't seen anything come by
is my safest bet to take the R from steinway into manhattan?
Yes, you aren't getting in on N/W and 7 will be a mess
Probably, first train into Manhattan at Broadway just arrived but no telling how fast they are going to move
it was also completely full
The MTA app says R is also severely disrupted.
praying that the M pulls through
The M is kind of a blessing after months of not existing, I didn't think it would make much difference but it has saved me from being late a couple times
It saved me this morning. I let the R go by at 46th Street and then rode the M right behind it past the entire mess of the NWR tunnel into Manhattan.
I just hate that they don’t even pick us up to get us to queensborough
Yeah, I’ve seen one train in the last 30 minutes to queens borough. And it was already full when it got to my station
Insane for one of the largest city transit networks in the world has the problem of not enough trains. It takes the piss how many 7s or Rs pass through stations I wait at before an N/W comes
It’s been the only train in the last 35 min. It filled up at Astoria Blvd. I couldn’t even get on.
Conductor just announced at about 9:30 AM that service has just been restored between Manhattan and Queens
They are back! I think I'm on the first to make it into Manhattan since the delay.
Says EMS responding at 5th/59th.
It took them over an hour to get things done. Rerouted people to take the 7 and now NRW are running again.
At ditmars they said trains are running every 30 mins. Last train left at 8:53.
"Sick passenger" at 59th.
Sitting at Ditmars… they just announced trains have resumed service, but very delayed of course. TBD…
Service has just been restored, my conductor says
Captain, my captain
Yeah the MTA should just add an eject button so the conductor can launch passengers who need an ambulance into the sun. The business I work for simply can't function in their all-important work of delivering synergistic solutions without my omnipotent powers for 20 minutes if I'm late.
I always said they should install giant snow plows in front of every train for the people that jump on the tracks
The morons at MTA are wasting our tax dollars on boring cars like the R211 while South Korea's absolutely perfect public train system has the top-of-the-line Snowpiercer model which has only had a single delay in decades of operation!
It’s so hard to have empathy for these “medical emergencies” when they happen every fucking day on the train or at the stations.
Why is medical emergencies in quotes? There are millions of ppl in this city, some % of them will have serious emergencies every day....
Sick Passenger is kind of a catch-all term so I get where this is coming from.
Exactly why I put it in quotes cause it’s usually the standard excuse. Medical issues or switch problems is always the excuse.
A metro worker once told me that most of those ‘medical’ emergencies are hungover people fainting or throwing up
Because I felt like writing it in quotes..
You gonna pick it apart and give it your own narrative like you do on every other thread here ?
everytime there's an MTA delayed thread, there'll be u/nosleeptilqueens, waiting to steadfastly defend the MTA lol
Oh and it’s totally selective, too. Plenty of people say similar things, opinions..but somehow /nosleeptilqueens just sort of goes after 1 person the entire thread, triples down etc etc. Those Reddit thumbs stay ready 😂
So much gets taken out of context. They write their own narrative about a response, totally flipping what you say lol. I’ve eye rolled enough.
In this case I'm defending the many people who suffer medical emergencies on the train, guess you didn't read the new york times article on this very topic !
I didn't, but I read it after you brought it up. Good read btw. I definitely agree with the straphanger POV in this, there needs to be a better way to handle sick passengers (in terms of removing them from the train if they're hemodynamically stable and providing patient care). The ratio of sick person(s) to many million riders also makes sense.
A bit confrontational again I see?
And another confrontational post? I think after all of these we can pretty much collectively ignore this person contributions to be honest
Is anyone interested in sharing an Uber from 30th ave to grand central?
Yeah had to drive my wife over to court sq this morning after she u turned from the station.
This makes me understand why people hop the turnstile. Everytime I take the subway with these ridiculous delays I think…why am I paying for this?
There are delays because the agency is broke because they're losing millions a year to turnstile jumping.
Classic deflection, the MTA has long mismanaged taxpayer money. Jumping turnstiles has nothing to do with how inept they are as an agency.
Two things can be true at once.
I didn’t say I do it
next manhattan bound train from 30th ave is in 25 minutes- and the guy that sits in the booth disappeared, big surprise
Shocking
Yeah, just made it on to a packed 7 train. Lol at the guy screaming “MOVE IN! IVE GOT BILLS TO PAY!! MOVE IN!”
He’s not wrong about people moving in and taking off their backpacks, but I’m a little less confrontational. And I’m laughing bc if I don’t, I’ll be annoyed by the usual MTA nonsense.
