I know it’s not a gendered issue per ce but I’ve noticed that in my limited exposure everyone who’s claimed abandoning masking is easy has been a woman and it got me thinking if men and women have different relationships with masking
What are you you all like when you mask? What are you like when you unmask?
I am a woman, but for me it's like that: When I mask I am very nice, very attentive, very agreeable and bubbly. And I smoke like a train. I am people pleasing like an idiot-champion. But that only goes so far ... When the mask inevitably comes off after a long time of masking I am kind of an asshole, very short tempered and utterly uninterested in people.
But since I make an effort to not mask I am weird, very kid-like and off-putting for many people. Too much and too little at the same time. But I feel so much better and the people that are really important to me like me way better without my "perfect girl" mask. I came to the conclusion that my mask was never really good with the people that are close to.me anyhow lol
But strangers loooooved my mask, such a pretty and nice little lady ya know.
Thanks for explaining things. That sounds exhausting, masking! To hell with other people. I think that most people will always be to judgemental, critical, picky & impossible to please most of the time, so unless you’re in a situation to where masking would help you avoid any problems like at work, then just be you. Your loved ones accept you as you are, so that’s good.
