Fuck apple I use to like apple until I actually learned anything about them... I have a 2nd gen watch that I have just been using as a watch but now it's useless because they made it so that the watch won't accept the update so I can't even use it for anything. If you like living in a world where you have to throw away perfectly working devices and other things every couple years support apple I will never buy another apple product again and I hope none of you will either they are a terrible and money hungry company that cares about nobody not even themselves. Shit like this Is why our planet is dying and why the human race is a cancer

I had a series 2 up until I upgraded at Christmas and it was fine. It didn’t have new features but still worked well and did everything it was supposed to. OP is freaking out for nothing.

I need you to understand that just because a piece of hardware works perfectly fine, doesn't mean that the hardware necessarily supports the updated software...
Apple is choosing not to support the software. That’s the OP’s point. The question is “how long should a company supply software support for some piece of hardware?” Until every last person stops using said hardware? Until there is less than 25% of hardware still in use? I get the OP’s point, but at some point in time hardware is unsupportable (meaning it makes little sense to support it).
The Series-2 is pushing seven years old.
If they choose not to support it, people complain. If they choose to support it, people will complain anyways because "wow it's slow now!!", when obviously, it's slowed down because it's using software that requires more resources that the old model didn't have. Assuming that it doesn't slow down, there's features that simply cannot be added to the older models, like blood oxygen app, because the reader just isn't there. I don't know what features OP is talking about, but I'm pretty sure most of them are features related to hardware like that one.

By comparison Android only supports stuff like phones 3 years tops. Google is finally doing 5 year updates. Not saying they’re any better than Apple, it’s just a thing with the industry. Planned obsolescence exists and has gone back super long in history. If you want to blame someone, blame Apple for not being transparent & repairable and the industry for being stupid & not sustainable
Also, blame the guys who came up with planned obsolescence.
Then again i have not had any problems with my ticwatch pro 2018 not being supported by current up to date software.
Yes it no longer receives os updates, but long as my fitness apps support that watch and Google Pay keeps working. Then there is almost no reason (except when the battery gives up on it) to throw that watch away.

In fairness to Apple, their update situation is the only thing you can't easily criticize about them. Android sucks for that.
Sorry to break it to you but the update situation is even worse on Android (Wear OS) lol. Just don't get a smartwatch because all devices will eventually have their support dropped.
I can still use my original active with my S21 Ultra and it works perfectly fine. Still gets updates every 6 months or so too.
Yup! And a Series 3, released in 2017, is still supported. In OP’s case, the particular watch in question is a 2016 smartwatch which no longer gets updated. What I was trying to say really is that it's a problem that doesn't only impact Apple.
I just think that it's pretty hypocritical to only blame Apple for this when it's an industry-wide issue. Samsung, Google, Apple, will all eventually stop supporting devices after a while, be it 2, 4, or even 6 years.
You stated it perfectly. I’ve never kept a device or watch for 5 years and I upgrade every two years which is reasonable for me. If you choose to attack one company for their practices then you must consider every grocery shopper stuffing their crap in plastic bags, every user of styrofoam cups, omg I could go on…point is we are killing the planet slowly, not just Apple.

I have ticwatch pro from 2018 and while it is old, it does everything that I would my smartwatch to do. so while in some devices this might be true, at least on my smart watch experience would not be that much improved by the current devices.
Only issue that i could think of, is that it takes around 5 minutes to boot, but it is ready to show the time and count my steps under 30 seconds. So that wait is not that bad either.
Only thing that I could think that would need to be improved, is battery life. But for that there is not that much that they can do with the current litium batteries.
So there is no real reason why gen 2 apple watch should be end of life state, if it otherwise is in great condition.
i dont see anyone updating their shit longer than apple, i just see a bit more compatibility on android smart watches with their apps and even then it’s debatable

I have a gen 2 Hermés. Some of the new watch faces aren’t available, but I still rock it.
I have a Gen 2 Apple Watch. It continues to work fine. Obviously it isn’t compatible with up-to-date software and apps because the hardware is out-of-date.

That’s odd.. My Gen0 (Original Space Black Stainless Steel) pairs and works just fine with my 12Pro Max and it stopped getting updates years ago
