David Fletcher strikes out the side in Triple A
𝕏 News (Twitter)Imagining him making it back to the majors as a knuckleballer relief pitcher is amazing
Isn't that what Tim Wakefield did? Drafted as a position player and wound up becoming a knuckleballer?
Yep. Drafted as a 1B. Was told he had no future as a position player, so he learned the knuckleball.
RIP.
Agreed
I still love David Fletcher.
I had to reread the title several times
Better than suarez
came here to say this
Even our infielders become better pitchers when they leave. 😂
Is it the same david fletcher?
Yes
This world needs more knuckleball pitchers. Braves org should convert him imo.
Would probably be our #2 pitcher right now
Underrated comment
Isn't it Fletcher with the Ippei / Bookie connection??
Not exactly. I think he sat at a poker table with some other people and Ippei and the bookie guy happened to be there. I don't think Fletch had any connection to them.
Ok - this post is what made me think this
“The first Mizuhara interview followed, in which he expanded on the story of Ohtani knowingly paying off his gambling debts. ESPN's timeline revealed some new details from that 90-minute conversation, such as Ohtani's former Los Angels Angels teammate David Fletcher, now a member of the Atlanta Braves, allegedly being present at the poker game at which Mizuhara allegedly met Bowyer.”
“Mizuhara tells ESPN he met Bowyer at a poker game in San Diego in 2021. Atlanta Braves infielder David Fletcher, who was friends with Ohtani when they both played for the Los Angeles Angels, had previously told ESPN that he was present at the poker game, but he said he did not introduce the bookie and interpreter. Fletcher and a source with knowledge's of Bowyer's operation told ESPN that Bowyer gained admittance to the poker game at the team hotel through an acquaintance of Fletcher's. Fletcher told ESPN he had met Bowyer once before while playing golf, and that he had never placed a bet with Bowyer's organization.”

LoL. Just a day after getting down voted here
Lol now I'm getting downvoted... for reporting the news as it existed at the time.
Keep receipts dude. Story changes next week and you and I can just be in a constant state of up and down votes lol
FWIW I wasn't the one downvoting you!
So what’s the 1.5 year retrospective on that trade? To anyone that has followed the timeline since this trade, did it benefit the team in any way with trades or depth since then?
It’s been pretty neutral. The main point of the trade was to free up some money in the short-term. Keep in mind that it was pre-Ohtani decision, so I think the FO was still hoping for a bigger offseason when they made the trade. Fletcher has a .583 OPS in AAA and Stassi’s career looks to be over. Surprisingly, Tyler Thomas has had the most success since the trade, but he is nothing more than a career minor leaguer.
There was never an Ohtani decision. That is all smoke and mirrors. Arte used it to justify jacking up the season ticket prices. That's why I'm only in 104 for about 30 games this season. I refused his games.
Just a big nothing all around, an arrangement for the money books
Gotta earn that money somehow.
I would ADORE if he ended up being a knuckleballer
Wait.... what? Are they trying to convert him or is this a position player pitching type deal
It was 10-2 in the 8th so I’d guess position player pitching
He looks like Jake Storiale when he's up there
Gwinnet Stripers legend
Ok he's back as my favorite player now.
Also was that first one Angels Legend Leo Rivas?
No it's Alfonso Rivas III. But now I have more questions
God now I hate that we traded him for litterally nothing. We could use a knuckleballing out 2 way Fletch.
Somehow he is a better pitcher than our entire bullpen
I miss him so much 😭😭😭😭😭
He looks like one of my friends in our Sunday league lmao 60mph knuckleball and all
Man that Braves AAA team is a big "remember some guys".
Ken Giles is there, our boy Slim Jim is there, Angels Legend Brian Moran is there.
Fletch of course but Angels Legend Andrew Velasquez is also there.
Anyone remember Kanekoa Texiera? Local guy, fun to watch. He's their manager.
David Fletcher is not a good MLB player. Apparently liking him because he’s from Orange County is a thing. Even if his defense is decent, he’s a liability at the plate. He should be in the stands as a fan.
I forgot this guy existed. How random. Any updates on Phil Gosselin or Jack Mayfield too?
Both of them are unsigned I believe, but grouping them with fletch is criminal
Comparing David Fletcher to Gosselin and Mayfield is utterly disrespectful
Captain Jack was fun to watch
Why is Fletcher any different? Is he more comparable to Andrew Velasquez?
Came up through our system, local kid, better than them (especially defensively), was with the club significantly longer. He literally said “Ideally, if it was up to me, I’d play here my whole career.” Squid, Mayfield, and Gosselin all passed through town, Fletch grew up with the Angels.
That would be so cool to see him become a knuckleball pitcher lol
