Suburban house, Farm, high-rise. Which type is easier to secure and make a shelter?
Fuck the Rules FridayWhile a hugh rise might be easier to secure. Food and water will be what you can't get
Hmm my guess is if you blow the stairs off the 14th floor in a 20 floor building, you will have to clear the remaining six floors and search each apartment for food and water
Make a rain collector and pigeon farm on the roof maybe even a small garden
High rise would be good if you could set up a way to get from one high rise to another.
farm would be easiest to secure because its the most likely to be in a rural isolated region with the least amount of other stuff nearby, meaning less hostile human survivors and less zombies. you can also grow your own food and actually become self sustainable in the long term, compared to a suburban house where you have to kep going outside on scavenging missions and there's gonna be other people competing with you, or a high rise which is even worse, bc if you ever attract any zombies to the entrances you'll just get trapped inside, unable to leave, and die of thirst after a few days.
For the high rise you could attack a zipline leading into another building if you have to escape
theoretically cool idea, but if we're trying to be practical, that rlly aint possible lol
Possible for sure practical is another story
It’s could be possible.. you could tie a rope to a secure spot in your building, then attach the other end of it onto an arrow, which you then shoot into the window of a different building. Head to the other building, tie the rope, get something to put around the rope when you’re sliding down.. Zipline
well... to do that, you'd have to have easy access to multiple buildings in the first place. i dont think thats possible for a small group of people to achieve if the city is full of zombies everywhere :P

Someone has play dying light
A farm is harder to secure, but needs less securing. A good fence, sparse population area, and plenty of available resources make it a fairly ideal shtf location.
Farm it’s because it has infinite food it’s away from civilization and bandits cant find you so you can talk long walks for good exercise and get items to barricade the barn and the haystacks act as hiding places and decent bedding
Depends entirely on the construction of the home.
Yeap, there are old fortress like homes and glass homes, they are non comparable
Farm house but only if you set up strong outer parameter controls. You would also want to stock up on things like medicine that may not be in the country.
Farm as long as its sufficiently defensible and/or remote, otherwise it might be a liability.
If rebuilding then farm house as long as it’s far out , if surviving you can loot for months in a high rise finding food and water as you go
1 bc you got the lake for water/fish good carnage points in the roof and you got wide open land and you can farm build a little bit for some chickens and maybe pigs just obv make sure it’s secure. Just once a month venture into town for supplies. I would deck out my car to be the classic “zombie proof car” and I would get a few long guns but my primary weapon would be a samurai sword. High rise is to risky and you could get trapped on a certain floor or not be able to go down and suburban is just too many people around
Have you ever played Project Zomboid
I think a suburban house might be the best of both worlds because you can see if there are any zombies nearby, and you can easily (maybe easily) find food, water, and other supplies.
I have enough ammo to headshot every man, woman , and child in my HOA, if they were zombified. I'd just chill on the roof. Wife would make me sandwiches and throw them up, lol! That being said, there's 80 acres of family land a couple hundred miles south. Would be tempting. But, I'd expect the outbreak would be put down quick. It wouldn't just be me up on their rooftop.
Im gonan say farm because you can adapt the basement or make a basement and disconnect it completely from the house if need be, and also, good for surveliance, you can see everything from all angles, and if there arent any big trees or anything nearby, you habe lots of land to use if you push out the base to the treeline. You get some good chain link fences, make a sniper post up on the roof or a second level room, and have good surveliance, youre set. And if anything happens to breal through any defences, you have some prep time to get ready because of the distance between you and the threat. Basement also works well as a bunker or armory because it can be stretched if not a finished basement.
To quote Attorney Tom, “it depends!”
Hershel would know how to answer this
Farm house is the best next comes high rise lastly suburbs
Suburban. Good space, plenty of curtains, storage, a lot of supplies, and can loot other houses nearby. Most likely to have vehicles too
Personally, if i had enough weapons and allies, i would go for the high rise. High risk, but high reward, it's pretty defendable if it's barricaded, because the only way in, is through the main entrance, and who's to say we can't just make a farm all over the roof?
who’s to say we can’t just make a farm all over the roof
Nobody In particular, but there’s a lot of issues with that. One, it’s nowhere near enough room for even a small group, much less anything with anything more than 2 people. It’d be a glorified garden, which isn’t what you need.
You need to constantly replace that soil. Where are you getting that soil? Cities aren’t known for their vibrant greenery everywhere. Then you gotta lug it blocks back to the high rise, then up 50+ flights of stairs, then do normal gardening stuff.
The roof likely wouldn’t support it. Soil is heavy, especially when wet. The roof is designed to hold what it does now, and not a whole lot more. Adding a few thousand or maybe even tons of pounds to it is going to cause you a lot of issues and potentially get someone killed.
The Bobbie and suburban houses are not valid long term strategies. The farmhouse is really your only real option
Farm if it has good vantage points and line of sight atleast 3km. Suburban house you could hide in the attic while securing the stairs so that the zombies couldn’t climb it. High Rise you could disable the lift and block/destory the stairs from a certain floor onwards and then the whole building above that is yours to clear and live in.
