Interesting. I was on vacation for 2 weeks, only running no lifting. On Tuesday I hit a pretty big leg day and left my legs crushed and very soar. I ran 35 miles this week. I wonder if this contributed to it. I just find it weird that it only starts when running the second I stop I’m good….
I get this from time to time, usually when I’m overdoing it. Backing off a bit for a while seems to help
Same symptoms ?
Yeah, usually just extreme tightness on the back side of the knee. It doesn’t reach into my hamstrings or calf, it’s just localized. Very odd. When I get this my trainer usually switches exercises to things like deadlifts or upper body work to give it time to rest
And it only starts when you run? How many days off do you take ?
It depends, usually have to go by feel, like stop when it gets stiff. I’d back off anything that will irritate it like doing lots things that bend the knee, like lunges or biking. Probably 3-5 days really easy, maybe a rest week entirely. If your issue persists after that it might be different though, mines usually pretty temporary and comes up when I’m doing too many sprints or high intensity workouts
I am not a doctor, but based on my experience of having had one of every knee injury in the book, this sounds like tendinitis or hamstring tightness to me. Since it’s just causing discomfort and not pain, it will probably be pretty easy to fix at this stage.
I would suggest getting an appointment with a PT if you haven’t already. An MD may be able to diagnose you, but a PT will be the one to actually fix you. Plus, doctors will often have the attitude of “if it hurts, don’t do it,” and PTs have more of a mindset of “let’s get you back to doing all the things you care about doing.”
