Unpopular opinion: most of the posts on this sub are yuppies that are too scared or incompetent to hike camp beyond their local state park and have never set foot in an federally designated wilderness area
R/backpacking might seem a bit posh to me cause my poor ass can't take a month to traverse some random country. This sub is great cause the point is to get inexperienced people out there, help out, share tips, etc In short, quit whining and just go be in the woods
I mean... Alpine Lakes in Washington is a wilderness-designated area and it's one of the BUSIEST hiking/backpacking areas here, so doubt they're too scared... Most backpackers these days that are just following trends go where the prettiest, easiest instagram shot is.
Or like me people don’t have the time to constantly be in the wilderness. I’m a stay at home dad with five kids so, yeah, most of my “hike camping” is much closer to home, often with the kids in tow. Doesn’t mean I’m incompetent. Or scared. I’m just not taking my 3 yo into the backcountry. Just because I only make it out there 1-2 times a year doesn’t mean anything. It means backpacking isn’t the only thing in my life.
To anyone outside the USA most of the posts on this sub are yuppies that are too scared or incompetent to hike camp beyond federally designated wilderness area....
Imagine having to ask the governments permission or buy a ticket and think it's wild camping.
Edit: lol. The same types are down voting this without a word to defend the sad situation they're in.
