Granddaughter wanted a patch just like her brother when she got a hole in her leggings, so another boat it was! If it goes on this way we'll have a fleet of repairs!
Thanks, I'm so happy to encourage them, while they're young enough (3&4), to think of repair as the go to rather than replacement. I love that your children are also interested, doing their own alterations and spreading the word! I didn't turn the edge on this little patch it's a kind of T-shirt fabric which doesn't seem to fray, but had frayed I would have done so. I sewed with blanket stitch on the applique sails and boat, they were too small and fiddly to needle turn. Then sewed over it all in the style of quilting to help anchor it all down (no pun intended!) I had to stretch the leggings to match the patch as I sewed as they are a very stretchy fabric and I didn't want them to be tight on her knee because of the patch. I'm really finding my way as I go with all this! I'd love to see what you've done ☺️
It’s really cute. My kids are also competitive about clothing alterations. My nine year old made her jeans into bell bottoms (with help) and now her sister wants to do the same to hers. And I patched my son’s knee, and now another kid also wants patches. We’re bringing em back!
Did you secure the edges of the little shapes so they don’t fray or just let them be? I haven’t bought any fray-stopper yet (I’ve only used felt on leggings in the past) and am wondering how long I can wing it.
