John Wayne
FR, now I see my Mom’s thing for him. She was ultra salty over Bridges’ Rooster and hadn’t even seen it yet. I liked them both!
This thread will get interesting
"I believe in white supremacy until the blacks are educated to a point of responsibility," the actor said. "I don't believe in giving authority and positions of leadership and judgment to irresponsible people."
Yeah not for me. His racism and homophobia takes any sort of attraction away
And domestic abuse, man was a violent bastard
Oof. This is something I will not be telling my mom, unfortunately. Meeting him when she was 8 years old is her big story she likes to tell. He picked her up and thought she was adorable, and considering she was already being bullied by classmates at that age, I can't take the wind out of her sails :(
Seems like a real pos.
Behind The Bastards does a couple segments on him (podcast). Not a good guy, tons of TBI as well
Damn. Well that’s, that for me also.
Yeah it's a huge turnoff to be racist
He was a 💯 bastard. Not a fan. Racist, domestic abuser. All around awful
No that is a generalized perception created by people later who have never watched a single movie he made and know nothing about him. People are stupid.
Yeah people cling to that one interview over and over to create this generalized perception of him. But John Wayne had no enemies, and was friends with many people of color, he was married three times to hispanic women, and homophobic? That is based on what exactly? I'll go ahead and answer for you. Nothing.
It doesn't matter if you have friends who are black if you think that they're inferior. Slave owners used to rape black women, you think that's because they liked them? He said some horrible shit and minorities. Often people like that will only tolerate the black or women who "aren't like the others", they're only a token.
He was so outraged about a native American woman asking to be treated like a human he tried to assault her on stage. He was horrible human being regardless of who he kept around.
It's weird he can say that and you go "ah well it's just one Interview, let's just forget it" have fun being an apologist
He said one thing in one interview. That was it, out of hundreds he did over the course of his entire career. Should we base everything about you over a single statement you make in life? Should we place a permanent label on you forever more? And the story about the Native America woman at the Oscars. Total lie. It has been debunked many times over. First of all, she was a fraud, she was not a Native American, she was white actress paid for by Marlon Brando. Second Wayne did not try to storm the stage, first of all there are no witnesses to even corroborate it, second Wayne would never have attacked a young girl ever, it was out of character, and especially not in public at a televised event, the entire notion is absurd and beyond belief. So if you're that into hating someone you know nothing about, even by using lies to promote it, you yourself should examine your own character.
I thought that Jude law at first
Ooooo never realised he was so damn fine.
oh ma gawwwwww ❤️❤️❤️❤️✨✨✨
He’s super racist so it’s a no from me
No he wasn't.
Racist domestic abusive walking ignoramus.
Hard Pass. ❌
No he wasn't, and he was one of the greatest movie stars of all time, and icon, even has an airport named after him.
Well okay, that settles it then.
We can all go home now folks.
On second thought, no…
It’s just you, goodbye. 👋🏼
He was already older when I started watching him in stuff. It wasn't until about 20 years ago I watched his early B&W & McLintock and whatnot movies. But this picture?... Ooooohhh 😍
He had been acting for well over a decade and had been in dozens of movies before hitting the big time with Stagecoach in 1939.
It's crazy how fast he lost his looks. Stagecoach was less than a decade after this photo, but by then he looked like this.
His inner ugliness came to the outside
His inner ugly came out early coz there was so much of it
I mean, ok??? Damn! I’ve must have always seen his middle-aged pictures before today. ::fans self::
it always weirds me out that this isn't the version America is in love with.
He probably wasn't much of an actor yet, and I don't think most of his fans loved him for his looks.
Oh my!
he kind of reminds me of at-his-peak leather alan wilder here 👀
Wow, he was a babe. Too bad he turned into a pos.
Turned into?
Too bad he’s a racist asshole
Hubba hubba!!
Geezus 🥵
His sexiness does not make up for his misogynistic, racist asshole ways unfortunately. Waste of a pretty face.
What ways? Can you give an example of that?
Came here to say “he was such a fucking prick though” but you all beat me to it
Why do you say that? He is probably the greatest movie star that ever lived.
This photo is giving me Paul Gross vibes. (The Mountie in Due South). Paul’s a much better person, though.
My nan always loved John Wayne.... I see why!!! YOWZERS!!!
Nicotine is a hell of a drug.
Shit, what?!? 🤤 reminds me of FDR Jr
Copying the sentiment of u/InevitablePersimmon6 -- What a waste of a pretty face!
So fine. Too bad he’s a POS.
Young John Wayne….give me strength Jesus
