Tennis

Trying to play some tennis with friends next weekend. Saw some courts in prospect park. Do we have to pay to play on these or are they free for all?

Cafe Euphoria - Legit or Sus?

I've been hearing a lot about Cafe Euphoria lately, but what I've heard has been mixed. I saw on their blog that they have asked for volunteers a few times, but they're a for-profit LLC which is illegal under the FLSA. I've seen a couple reviews also that there are some shenanigans around pay. Most of the reviews are positive though.

Has anyone here had interactions with them or been there? I admit I've never made it down there myself.

Parking

Were parking rules in place yesterday? I wld have thought, national holiday, no parking regulations in place no? (Written from tow yard).

Mysterious “boom” Downtown/Little Italy

Hey y’all- in the mid-afternoon, like between 2 and 4, a few times a week there is a loud (and I mean LOUD) BOOM that rattles my dog, and often pulls me out of work. It’s been happening for weeks, probably months. I’m going to try to better document them but I figured some folks on here might know what it is.

Best guess is it’s an explosive? Neighborhood kids off for the summer causing trouble? I’m in the Little Italy part of Troy and it’s hard to pinpoint the direction. It’s not sharp enough of a sound to be a gun, imo.

I’m so curious about what it is, and when I can reliably expect it. Anyone have any idea what’s causing it?

Happy 4th everyone

Fireworks Display?

Will there be any public fireworks displays in Troy tonight?

Parking?

Does anyone know if metered parking spots on the street free today? The website says city operated lots and garages are free on national holidays but it’s not clear about street parking.

The Rise | Collar City vs The News Apartments in Troy, NY

Hello, I’m an incoming transfer into RPI this fall. I am wondering if anyone has experienced either one of these apartment complexes? Does anyone have any pros or cons? Suggestions?

Calling All Drummers

Hey folks,

My band and I are looking for someone to play drums. I want to emphasize that we are amateurs, although we do write our own songs and are looking to play live at some point in the future. We play mostly rock music, but we collectively keep open minds and are willing to try just about anything. If you are interested at all, just reply to the thread and we can go from there. We are mostly looking for someone who can commit to a regular practice schedule and who can keep time. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

“Elf Bar” or Similar

Anyone know where my girlfriend can find these? The last spot she had no longer has them (gas station at the bottom of hoosick)! If you prefer, DM me with any ideas.

Uncle Sam Tour with Historian Kathy Sheehan

With the July 4th holiday approaching, and Troy being the home of Uncle Sam, I thought it would be fun if Troy/Rensselaer County historian Kathy Sheehan would walk with me around the city.   This way, my podcast listeners could learn about how Troy businessman Samuel Wilson became known as Uncle Sam.

Not only did Kathy graciously agree to do so, but instead of a walking tour, she surprised me by driving to various locations in and around Troy.

We began up in Prospect Park, then drove to the site of the Wilson brothers' meat packing plant, headed out to the Red Mill School in Rensselaer, visited Oakwood Cemetery, and concluded the tour at the Uncle Sam exhibit in the Hart Cluett Museum.

The story that Kathy told was fascinating, so if you’d like to listen to the recording, it can be found at the links below.

Fireworks ban

Thankfully our lord and savior Mayor Mantello has implemented restrictions on fireworks. Hopefully no officers are getting OT for a special task force as I hear them ring out all over downtown! Terrible July to all! 🍉

Help with curly hair/cut?

Recently moved to the area and had luck with one gal, but she’s booked out so far out (understandably so), and I wanted to branch out to expand my options.

Who/where do you recommend?

Hair is currently down to my waist, and I am looking to chop enough off to bring the waves/curls out. Wavy with some natural curl, but very fine hair - product weighs it down. - Curl knowledge / education is an appreciated plus.

TIA! 🩵

Seeking 2BR Apartment in Downtown Troy Sept 1

Hi folks!

I'm a 29M video editor & photographer looking to move to Troy Sept 1st and wanted to see if anybody had any leads on apartments. I'm looking to live Downtown (north of poestenkill, South of middleburgh, west of RPI).

As I work from home and need an office, I'd ideally like a 2BR although a 1BR with a decently sized living room may work. Budget is up to $1350/month. My credit score is an 813, and aside from a couple technical issues on the management company's side, I've never missed a rent payment in the past 7 years I've lived in NYC. I'm clean and handy around the house, and I've been very on top of any issues that have come up in my past few apartments. Ideally I'd like to find a place with a live-in owner or small landlord who owns a couple buildings. Laundry in-unit or building is a huge plus for me and parking is not necessary but would also be a nice bonus.

In an effort to give back to the subreddit I've put together a quick list of good and bad landlords according to the other apartment search posts on r/troy over the past year. Feel free to weigh in if you agree/disagree:

Collar City Pop

Why wasn’t there a Collar City Pop this year?

It was a nice event. Fun. Good food and people.

The only downside is that my partner and I were harassed by one of the TPL board members.

Dog shelter donation

I was wondering if their any dog shelters that accept frozen food as donation. I recently got the farmers dog but my dog did not eat it I’ll feel bad if I just threw it out if anybody has any recommendations would be appreciated.
