At least the speed bumps are slowing people down?
The new speed bumps and flashing stop signs at Sherway Gardens seems to be working well
OCAs a pick up truck driver, this shit is why we are so hated. I at least have a reason for owning a pick up, I'm a tradesman.
I always judge a pickup by the condition of it and contents. You're good bro 👍🏻
The jankier it is, the more respect I have :)
Yeah coworker of mine was kinda concerned when I was ragging on people who buy truck nuts. Then I explained that he uses his truck to bring his dirt bike out to the bush, so he actually uses his truck as a truck, rather than as a bigger compact car
I also don't drive like an asshole, so /#notallpickupdrivers! Lol.
My brother drives a gigantic Dodge Ram 3500 with all the bells and whistles. He's had it for 4 years. Not a scratch on it...
I agree 100% with your judgement calls on this.
A well used pickup will always be a better driver too. It's perfectly clean dent free rams and f150's that drive like asshats
Lmao, you just contradicted yourself. Those with dents n stuff have clearly hit things and don’t care. Which makes them a shittier driver. Lol the way some of you act lien you know when none of you little Reddit dweebs have ever even seen grass.
Those with dents n stuff have clearly hit things and don’t care.
Mine has dents from ladders...and sadly, an asshole with a hammer who instead of asking me to move figured hed just give the old goat another battle scar.
And a 90 year old lady who didnt bother to check her blindspot :(...so no it isnt always us denting our shit.
Oh for sure, I get that 100%
Right there with you. It's the ones with the shiny no company name never seen dirt trucks that do this nonsense that makes us look bad. Our truck has the company name, and we drive normal because that's what were suppose to do, and we don't want to end up on someone's video breaking road laws.
I used to live in a predominantly Blue collar town and as expected 1 in every ~5 houses has a pick up truck. That's a great reason to have one
...but I CRINGE whenever I hear someone say they just feel much safer in a bigger vehicle because "if they get into an accident theyre likely to survive"
That's a shitty reason to own one. You should be driving defensively either in a Smart Car or a Ford Raptor
For sure. This is the reason I always yield to pickups (or any vehicle larger than my own), even if I know they’re in the wrong. My friends say that only emboldens their shitty driving but….I also want to live so….. 😅
As a Man, you sound like an absolute dork. U don’t need a reason to have a pick up and people drive like dicks get over it.
Really easy to spot the difference between pick-ups used by tradies vs. the plague of ESVs / pavement princesses that are everywhere now. You're good!
Guarantee that guy with the truck works more than you.
I just this week installed outdoor security cameras at a commercial building overlooking the parking lot, and it didn't take long before the cameras recorded a pickup truck rolling over the brightly painted yellow curbs.
To be fair, half of the vehicles in this clip did the same, just not with the same enthusiasm.
Not just the pick up. Take another look. I’d say most vehicles don’t stop.
Pretty much everyone rolled passed the signs except the white tesla. What's even the point of a speed bump that close to a stop sign or vice versa for a two way street at a shopping area? Seems like there should be flashing yellow pedestrian crosswalk lights instead.
Because it a a pointless stupid thing the city has done to punish drivers. I would do the same too unless there was people crossing. Common sense trumps a lot of these stupid things they have put in place.
Yup pure waste of money. Nobody going to stop if there is no pedistrians.
It’s like intersections with left turn light. There will be no oncoming traffic for a minute almost and you sit there like an idiot. They punish good drivers for the shitty ones.
I drive a pickup and I can tell you this - I’d use those little bumps as jumps
What about the porch and the family suv that did the same thing.
Private property isn’t it?
New? I lived at sherway in 2013, and the flashing stops signs were there then. People also didn't stop back then.
That really should be a yield sign. The speed bumps are slowing people down so they are able to check for pedestrians before accelerating again
Having both the "STOP" and "STOP FOR PEDESTRIANS" sign is not a good design. Drivers will think they only need to stop when pedestrians a present.
You'll find a much more common/standard implementation of this at just about any airport pickup/dropoff terminal. All drivers yield to pedestrians instinctively.
almost all ... it's the exception that flattens you
Yeah drivers sure are stupid.
The pedestrian crossover signs also already require yielding to pedestrians so the stop sign's not really necessary here.
Its private property. The hta is generally unenforceable on private property. As long as theyre yielding to pedeetrians and those with the right of way, its not a problem.
Except that’s also the stop for TTC and MiWay and that’s right where they stop. They often block the view to the crossing.
the stop sign is redundant. no one is going to stop at an empty crosswalk
The bumps weren’t always there. When it was just normal stop signs ppl would FLY through here! In addition to that it’s a bus terminal too so you frequently have ppl running for the buses across the street. I was often scared someone would get hit. I lived in the condos right here a few years ago. I never used that crosswalk without be very cautious about cars not stopping. Speed bumps made it much more safe. 👍
I enjoy reading books.
Private property in Ontario. Signs are stoptional.
It’s not actually: that’s an actual road.
You made me actually look it up. That specific spot is private, but the public highway does start about 100m east of that stop sign.
A private one. Yes.
Its all weird but private road does not necessarily mean the same as private property. For example with the developments i build the roads are private until assumption by the municipality. Until that point they are privately owned. However the signs and everything are indeed enforceable.
Basically while private property means the law may not apply, it doesn't mean it always does not apply. Private owner and government may make an agreement that it is enforced as a public road but still privately held. Sometimes its preferred long term as it gives the owner of the surrounding property ability to contract their own snow clearing and maintenance, but also ensure that laws are enforced
It isn’t actually. Sherway Gardens rd (goes around the mall and enters off The Queensway), Sherway Gardens (entrance from Evans ave) and Sherway Gardens Dr (entrance from The West Mall) are municipal roads.
Poor design. Of course drivers won't come to a full stop if no pedestrians are present. The sign says "STOP FOR PEDESTRIANS".
Yes if you ignore the actual stop sign.
People learn what a stop sign means before ever learning to drive. It's a driver problem if they're ignoring the big red sign.
Looks like the speed bumps and some of the signage are new since 2019
They are. I've lived here for years.. They've just recently (around when covid started I think) made these speed bumps much larger. I occasionally find myself watching from my balcony, as drivers don't realise the size of the bumps until they scrape over the first one.
Just last week they added a button/flashing light for pedestrians. But many just cross where ever they like when they get off the bus.
It should also be noted thst locals just go around the bumps, into oncoming traffic. Or better yet, use the bus lanes which don't have speed bumps.
Good Times.
lol I never thought of doing that. I'll give it a try next time I have to drive through there
A perfect example of how over-relying on signs (stop signs, speed limits, anything) as a traffic calming crutch doesn't work. It's like crying wolf. The more you put them in places where people can see that they're not serving much of a purpose, the more they will be ignored until normalization of deviance becomes so pervasive that they get ignored when they're needed.
You can see here that the speed bumps--real infrastructure that forces drivers to comply--are working as intended. The stop signs may as well not be there, and really shouldn't be. Roads should be designed so that driving too fast is uncomfortable, whether physically or psychologically.
Speed bumps that close to a stop sign/walkway is unwise. Anyone not paying attention that goes over the speed bump too fast also loses traction for braking.
If they arent paying attention to the stop sign then they obviously dont see the speed bump either. They would plow into whoever they were going to plow into, speed bump or not.
They're not new, been there for years.
I always come to a complete stop here, mainly because those speed bumps are murder! But then that’s the whole point isn’t it?
Shame about the stop sign.
It's a pretty pointless stop sign in fairness.
Yes! It should just be either a pedestrian cross-over or a traffic light. Forcing traffic on the main road to stop for no reason is just asinine. Great way to increase pollution and noise.
Wow. Thought you were gonna show ONE vehicle that you happened to see. Lol 👍
You’re supposed to make the pedestrian crossing raised like a big speed bump
Every single car and truck ran those stop signs
5 years is crazy with respect to load on administration and costs.
An app, can achieve the same thing. So perhaps an app that allows you to skip a retest based on good driving telemetry may create the widespread adoption required to get people to drive better, while averting heavy administrative demand and paperwork on the public sector.
So, good idea if it’s combined with an app to limit administration impact.
Seems like only two cars actually stopped, the rest just did rolling stops (which can be ticketed)... and the pickup just did not gaf
UPDATE : Speed bumps be gone 😕
Yeah I saw that yesterday too. I wonder if they’ll put them back.

I once saw a car get pulled over by a cop car for not stopping at this same Stop signal. The car just drove through as if there wasn’t any stop signal. The funny thing is this cop car was right behind the car and the car driver was also using his phone when I saw him get pulled over. The cad driver could have avoided this situation by just paying attention to his surroundings. Distracted driving must have costed him a lot.
As a pedestrian, I'm always thankful when I make it home in one piece. Head needs to always be on a swivel
Owners of F-150s don't have to follow laws or logic
How else do you get to that Nordstom sale from that suburb single detached house?
Do you expect them to fit 4 bottles of ketchup from Costco in a reasonable sized trunk?!
They NEED this size. Without this, their life would be nothing. NOTHING!
Why stop if there aren’t any pedestrians? It should be a crosswalk imo.
They don’t stop for pedestrians either.
Because it says “stop” not “stop when pedestrians are present “ 🙄🙄🙄
The sign behind the stop sign says “stop for pedestrians” with a flashing light.
If you’ve been driving long enough, you would remember this used to be a crosswalk long before it became a full stop. But nowadays everyone is too busy texting to pay attention to the road, so all users must suffer.
If you "suffer" because of a stop sign, you might want to explore that in therapy.
Not even trying to hide your racism, eh?
Why would I hide something that is sad but a blatant fact.
My girl is Muslim, do you think she went to driving school? her family? Her neighbours? Get your head out of your ass and look outside.
They'll think it's an obstacle and have fun w/it
15 km/h ? Why didn't they close the road all together. Save the money for bumps, signs etc
It’s a mall parking lot, that’s why it’s 15km/h.
Why do these cyclists refuse to follow the rules??!!?
But cyclists don’t stop at stop signs?!!! /s lol
Who the fuck was talking about cyclists? They're a different issue, but irrelevant to this post.
Have you ever read the sub before? People bitch about cyclists literally all the fucking time.
It’s not about cyclists.
See you on the next “cyclists need license and don’t follow the rules” thread then.
Cool, and then we can skip on over to the “Pedestrians need license and don’t follow the rules” thread. Leave the “whataboutism” game for the school yard crowd.
How is it whataboutism? I’m trashing fucking drivers and people who what about cyclists to defend drivers in a thread showing how shit drivers are.
I stand corrected and apologize. I’m probably still salty over another Leaf failure!!
It kind of is, because it's about both. Cyclists do the same thing but go through stop signs even slower than this and yet they receive tons of flak. However they are not riding in tons of steel. I think more people should be upset about cars/trucks doing this, which is a much more common occurrence.
They don’t need speed bumps to show the stop signs, they need cameras for people who don’t care to stop at the stop sign
I overlook that crosswalk. People who completely stop are in the minority.
What the fuck is the point of this? This is one of those things where they punish the average driver because of retards. I would ignore it too. Unless there’s actually people crossing. A lot of the time, my common sense tru ps stupid things like this.
If your street has more than 2 lanes, a stop sign ain't gonna work. Either narrow the street, or switch to a roundabout, or both.
How would a roundabout and a pedestrian crossing even work?
Most of the drivers are just more aggravated with these speed bumps, so unlike before when they actually stopped at the pedestrian crossing, you see them now slowly driving above the speed bumps and just slightly touching brake pedal.
... Between this and speed cameras that take 1-2 years to fight, cops are just as useless.
Yes, pick on the pickup while everyone else gave zero care about the bumps or the sign. How many stopped out of the 20...2?
Thegreenest car: Acts normal.
The biggest gas guzzler: Goes right through
Those signals and bumps are not applicable to pickup trucks with big wheels.
The Tesla is the only one who used it properly looks like. Sounds about right.
These fuckers…
Stop for what?
Time to change the drivers license class for pickup trucks and require to have a legit business reason to own one
I used to work very close to here… these were very poorly installed at first. When they first put them in, they weren’t painted and there were no signs warning you. I saw dozens of cars getting the shit scraped out of them. They're also quite a bit back from the stop sign... people were coming up and seeing the stop sign and slowing down but it didn't matter cause even going over those things at 40km/h is going to rip your undercarriage to shreds.
Was fixed within a couple days, but I would have been livid if my car got damaged.
Stop sign is only a suggestion :/
The white minivan 👌😂
If you actually look at the signs, they say to stop for pedestrians. I dont see any pedestrians 🤓
Only the Tesla understood the stop sign.. humans 0 robo 1?
The only car that stopped was the Tesla, lol.
Ye I live here, no one cares about any of the stop signs here. It sucks :)
One or two well placed cameras from the local law enforcement. And the number of tickets from here would sky rocket
i feel like this became a stop sign more than 30 years ago, although the speed bumps are newer
The bump should be the crosswalk.
I almost got hit here. Slapped the rear passenger side window of the car. “I didn’t see you!” he said. As if the stop sign was optional. 🙄🖕🏼
Bumps take attention off the road. They add danger, they do not ease it.
These speed bumps are a horrible thing, and do the exact opposite of what they were put there to do.
Most of these drivers are now not allowed to complain about cyclists not doing their stop: almost none of them have done a proper stop.
They need to install the same speed bumps that my local Costco installed, if you attack those at speed they are guaranteed to loosen every filling you have.
It's probably confusing to people. Do you want me to stop or go a max of 15 KPH? So they do neither due to the ambiguity. Also the bump serves as the solid white line so there's that. They're forced into a rolling stop at the bump, the other stuff must be optional? I dunno, nobody gives a shit and I've noticed that if I decide to 'join 'em' because I 'can't beat 'em' nobody seems to raise an eyebrow. The cops say they can't enforce everywhere because they're too busy with actual crimes like mass shootings, large scale threats etc etc.
Anyway I'm just being an ass about it because in reality I just think that we're all assholes and nobody cares about any rules whatsoever. I'm so done with this BS age of Trumpism where everything that made rational sense was questioned or deemed wrong because some entitled asshole didn't agree with it.
With all those speed bumps, the traffic will have a much harder time identifying pedestrians because their attention is diverted to the speed bumps. As soon as there is complex pedestrian traffic, someone will get hurt.
A real crosswalk (lights, indicator, noise) a camera and a warning sign, would be much more effective. These speed bumps are invisible when it snows, and actively messes with the control of the car. So the danger of a bad accident has increased at this location.
Almost all the cars rolled through the stop signs. Putting speed bumps that close to the crosswalk might sound good, but in reality people tend to focus on them and are probably less likely to notice the crosswalk, or people in it. They should be back far enough to slow down traffic, but still allow drivers time to re-focus on the sign.
Why would you stop of there is nobody crossing makes zero sence
Of course the pick up blows right through the speed bump and sign!
