Post Season 6
SpoilerGeneral Discussion (Any Show & Book Spoilers Must Be Tagged)Imagine if they came back and they got a Fallout budget :O
It seems unlikely they come back with Amazon, but that would be incredible.
Trying to think of what show they'd enjoy that laid dormant for years, and now I'm wondering if Red Dwarf can fit into the Expanse universe?
At least one of them was Futurama. I don't remember the other. It wasn't a suggestion that these other shows would fit into the expanse universe, but rather Ty played the usual "We don't have anything to say about the future of any expanse adaptations" and then Daniel chimed in with "I'd like to say I;m really enjoying the comeback of Fuyturama and XXXX, take that for what you will"
It's from this podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/is-the-rise-of-ai-the-best-argument-for/id121534955?i=1000627625089
Though if I recall correctly, the podcast host created an additional episode that was less about the general topic of the podcast and more about her being a huge fan of the series. I don't recall which episode the exchange appeared in.
Justified and Futurama, both resurrected by Hulu for additional seasons…
The IP definitely has some buzz around it and content still being created in-line with the "show canon," as it were. The Telltale prequel game and Dragon Tooth take a couple of different ends of the spectrum.
Basically, Alcon has retained all the rights to produce every other kind of media in The Expanse universe right now except more show, and will get those rights back at some point in the nearish future when their deal with Amazon expires. There's still hope, but no guarantees.
If there was any buzz or even rumors it would be all anyone in this sub was talking about. You won’t miss it if it ever happens.
They've implied that would revisit a continuation once Amazon's streaming rights expire, which hasn't happened yet.
So probably nothing currently in the works. If there is, based on some internal knowledge that we aren't aware of, it would probably not be something they could talk about publicly.
once Amazon's streaming rights expire
Do we have any clue when that is?
A "handful of years" is the most definitive statement I've ever seen.
So.... no we don't.
‘Handful of years’ is a direct quote from the co-CEOs of Alcon.
Yeah that's why I put it in quotation marks originally.
The authors and showrunners (Ty, Daniel, and Naren) have never said that the show is done or that season six is the final season, and they've all expressed an interest in returning to the series after they've had time to take a break and work on other stuff.
In an interview that Ty and Daniel did on a podcast last year about the socio-economics of the series, Daniel made a pretty positive, if oblique comment on the possible future of the series. Something along the lines that he is presently enjoying two different series that had new seasons after being dormant for several years - in direct reference to the question "Is this it for The Expanse?"
Take that all for what you will. It's all pretty airy and hopeful, but they've never said no. Personally, I love what they created so far - its an amazing show. If we get more, well, that will be interesting.
