A woman hired me last year to move her home contents into a storage pod that was located 10 minutes away. She helped and it took us 8 trips , everything went great. She left 4 stars with no explanation why. Today she sent a request to move her stuff again.
I'm not against helping her again but I'm hesitant. If doing my best gets 4 stars I could wind up with 3 stars this time.
Question is, is it acceptable to voice these concerns with her in the TR chat? Is it a violation?
Ask her what you can do this time to earn 5, stars
This is how you handle it, don’t be too formal or confrontational, who knows she may have made a mistake. Typically clients don’t give you a bad rating and re hire you in a considerably short time. It’s like eating at a bad restaurant, giving them a bad review and then return the next day hoping it will be better. Don’t be dismissive too. That first response is setting you up for failure
Don't work with her again. She needs to get the message and not do it again to you or someone else. We gotta evolve these clients like pokemon.
Kidding aside, chat with her and ask her how everything went last time and it could very well be that she’s one of those clients that doesn’t give above a 4*.

That's a creepy thing to say. And inaccurate, I had 5 stars at the time. Maybe he was surprised when I arrived and wasn't Jesus himself.

I would. They might get the message, and you could spare yourself a four-star review.
If he didn't understand the connection between his review policy and why no one wanted to work for him a second time (and that wouldn't surprise me at all), then he would likely appreciate the information, and quite possibly change his policy.
You wouldn't have much to lose. If you do a great job, I doubt he would punish you with three stars just for telling him the truth and explaining how things work.
I did explain to him that, but also it was 2022, if a man in his late 50's still doesn't understand the Internet and the point of these rating systems by then, I'm not sure the one talking to from me can help much.
Edit: he ended up not leaving a review for me at all. So maybe?
My first TaskRabbit job was just like this, hustled my ass and took this lady's unorganized shit to her new place over and over, finally took all the trash she needed to get rid of to vacate the apartment too. She gave a 4 star and no comments. She was older and I think of the generation that 5 stars are only for stupidly perfect engagements that are also probably cheap.
Nah. I wouldn't work for them again, accident or not. 8 trips is absurd she sounds cheap and ungrateful.
Did she not use a big enough moving truck? The most trips I'll take is 2 and that's with an additional person. Only two times that's happened is because client had too much stuff or they were cheap and didn't want to pay for a larger truck size. It ends up costing more in hours to drive back and forth twice so they were short sighted in thinking.
Don't you make more money if the customer uses a small truck because it takes more time?
That's a short-sighted perspective to creating long-term business. Clients will value you for working efficiently and being proactive. You never want to charge so low that you rely on milking the clock.
But you say "the most trips I'll take is 2" implying that otherwise you're getting ripped off, when in reality, no, because you get more hours. Then you frame your rule as "helping the client," but what the client actually wants is for you to do what they want, and that may mean a smaller truck, or other "weird" things that fit their agenda.
Not really embracing the "protect a client from himself" approach. If they agree to pay and you aren't getting ripped off, why not make them happy?

It’s too bad everything is centered on the stars. If you need the money and it’s paying work then if it were your business you would probably take the job regardless of our need to be rewarded on an app.
Some clients consider four stars perfectly good, and 5 starts amazing / above and beyond.
And I understand that viewpoint, in a perfect world, I think they're correct.
But the problem is, most people have very little capacity for subtlety and nuance. Most people either give four stars or one. And that practice has become so common, and persisted for years at this point, that four stars effectively no longer means 'good'.
It sucks that some clients don't understand that. And it's a very dicey matter to attempt to explain that to them, without running afoul of the TOS..

I had a client rate me 4 stars and tip me so I called her to ask her what I could’ve done better and she actually said it was an accident and called support to have them change it to 5 stars which they did

I received a 4star review after pressure washing a customers house and I even washed a car that was in driveway extremely dirty from a couple of years underneath trees.. me and the female that was present at the residence got along really good.. a little bit to good according to her.. the husband booked me and was out of town for the 2 days I was there.. he gave me 4 stars and I asked her when I was picking up my ladder what was the problem and she said he was jealous and she was surprised I was able to get 4 stars.. definitely a reflection of my work. Utterly disappointing that so much depends on reviews, customers literally can’t blackmail you with them.. I would still take on the job if I were you but be very clear with the customer of what they expect and ask for an explanation.

I wouldn’t work with her again unless you’re desperate. I would explain politely in the chat that if everyone give you four stars it would really hurt your business on Taskrabbit and that you’re declining the job.
