I’m almost finished with Tom Waltz TMNT series and I’ve been loving it. Recently however, I’ve been learning more about Sophie’s run and I’m hesitant to say the least. What are the ups and down of the run and should I consider reading it?
What do you like/hate about Sophie Cambell’s TMNT run?(IDW issues 100-150)
[Comics]I don’t think I would hate the slice of life stuff, I always wished we got to see more of the turtles on their off-time, but it seems Sophie definitely went to the extreme. Mutant town being its own thing immediately sounds interesting to me, if she did that I probably wouldn’t think about stopping at #100
My problem with the slice of life format is that it’s not really a slice. It’s been going on for about 50 issues. That 1/3 of the entire run of mainline turtles.
I think Campbell would’ve been a great writer for setting up mutant town and establishing the turtles grief and resolution(at least a little) to the loss of Splinter. The problem is 100% giving her too many issues
Such a shame. It should've been like 10 issues at most or just one aspect of the storyline.
it really hasn’t been going on for 50 tho. it started picking up after like 20-24 issues before we started getting the Frogs, Barlow, and Armageddon Game all the way up to now
It's probably less her fault than you'd think, Armageddon War got delayed by like two years and she couldn’t meaningfully advance the plot until that resolved, so it's like 25 issues of spinning it's wheels trying to create the illusion of action without actually going anywhere.
They also extended her run far longer than she was supposed to have it. I'm fine with side arcs, but for example, battle of the bands and the tokka and razhar thing? Those had potential. Also, the whole future koya/Leo romance and koya's redemption arc was dumb.
Yeah there was a lot I was disappointed by.
Disclaimer: Only got as far as #118. I only get the collected volumes so I'm always a bit behind, working my way through the 15th vol currently.
Likes: The artwork is attractive, the panel layout can properly build up the action & tension. The larger "splash" pages are usually detailed & interesting.
Dislikes: The overload of mutants & it feels like so many of them are unconsequential. It makes it difficult to care about any of them.
The pacing of the stories. Whilst I did praise the panel action shots, they feel so few & far between. Sometimes it feels like several issues without any combat at all.
There's a lot of relationship building going on. Pretty much everyone of note is dating someone in one form or another. Which is fine, but sometimes it feels like I'm reading a "rom-com" not an action comic. Like a few issues here & there, absolutely. They do have value to develop the emotional side of characters. I think its just too heavy handed & comes at the cost of action.
A lot of the classic lineup characters & the more developed IDW creations are woefully underused & the new mutant characters, as mentioned, are too many & too much "bit parts".
I think if I had to sum it up, Sophie's run doesn't feel like "teenage mutant ninja turtles" but more like "midlife settling-down turtles & their partner mutants".
I can see how that can be tiring, but I find it a little excited as an outsider looking in, we’ve never really seen that with the turtles so I’d like to see what those relationships are like
I can see the appeal of it. Just not 50 (+ some spinoffs) issues worth of them. Like Mikey is starting to become a radio "semi-political" host, Don has become the town's handyman (electrician/plumber etc). Leo becomes a gardener & self defence instructor. Raph seems to just be chilling out with his girlfriend. Jenneka starts a band. April is Stockman's PA when we see her. I don't even recall what Casey is doing, been ages since he's done anything.
It's like reading stories of just normal people but in mutant bodies. And there's shockingly low amount of twists.
Whilst it's good to have some of those elements of "normality", I just feel it's excessive. I reckon you could half the pages I've read so far & lose virtually nothing important. It's a slow burn & so far the few "resolved" arcs have been quite lacklustre.
If I was buying individual comics, I'd have cancelled my subscription. Tbh, if it wasn't for the fact the collected editions look nice on my shelf & are very affordable, I wouldn't buy them at all.
Like: mutant town is a good concept and a big shift to status quo. It gives good opportunity to bring back tons of the old 90s toys without everybody needing a backstory
Also, the art is good. I’ve always been a fan of her art
Dislike: I dislike how much of the setup is wasted on slice of life furry romance and infatuation. It’s not a thing I’m interested in and seeing them change outfits and pose every so often was like… I felt like it was becoming a Barbie comic where she just wants to hang out with her friends and look cute.
When they all got dolled up in their glam punk outfits to go to the pig girls concert and make googly eyes at each other is when I checked out and haven’t bought an issue since
Yeah, you could really feel Sophie's history writing Jem and less action oriented stories which is very much not TMNT
Omg this. I love the comics but the whole furry segment killed her run for me. It still could have worked but I feel like they really should have explored the TMNT motifs of loneliness. I remember Sons Of The Silent Age where they dealt with other “mutants.” This single comic dove into the guys solitude knowing their the only one of thier kind. The situation the mer people find themselves completely parallels the TMNT’s personal struggle. Just like the Mer people they stay united with thier brotherhood. It is this brotherhood that allows them to live and protect one another. The big issue with Mutant Town it really does nothing to actually demonstrate the TMNT and what fuels their existence. One of the only good thing that Mutant Town did is show how the boys go about thier lives doing thier own separate things. Yet, I don’t think they went in deep to have compelling conversations. For instance, what separates the TMNT amongst the whole array of new mutants. Even if they aren’t the only mutants “anymore” thier has got to be something more special. Cause the whole point of the franchise is that they really are different from anything in the entire universe. In a world full of mutants now, what is the compelling reason for thier lives.
Well, I’d push back on you a little here: they aren’t defined by their isolation, loneliness and otherness
Parts of their lives are, certainly, but giving them an opportunity to grow beyond that allows their story and place and definition of what makes them special evolve
Their first meeting with the mutanimals shows that opportunity for growth, that feeling of betrayal leading them to introvert willingly again, and kind of set up for a repeat cycle with Slash and Bishop
Anyway long story short: I quite enjoy the shakeup as a whole. How do these boys find their purpose in a world where they are no longer “special”? What does special even mean?
I dunno, it’s neat. It’s an unfulfilled promise. Or maybe it gets fulfilled after I stopped paying attention. I’ll go back eventually, my fandom runs deep
I actually didn't mind the romance stuff. For me it's more that it felt like everything immediately before and after Armageddon Game feels like padding. Like the Barlow story was fun and the Armaggon stuff is ehh but a lot of stuff like Tokka and Rahzar or the Punk Frogs could have been a little more important. Plus April and Casey feel a little superfluous in this run, like I genuinely can't think of what they did in the series.
I stopped before any of that so I have no idea but I’ll have to take your word on it
Armageddon Game is fun as a story to me but I feel the run should have stopped a little bit after that. Keep the Barlow stuff and the Turtles splitting up and end the run, the Armaggon story feels like we're filling space until #150 and Jason Aaron can take over the book
I feel like as of late the turtles are starting to become more of an openly accepted superhero team instead of a small clan of secretive ninja, that’s what I don’t like. It’s not that it’s bad, it’s just that I prefer them to work in the shadow like the ninjas they are. I also don’t like how anti-exciting the everything has been after issue 100. Venus feels forced. Raph and Alopex’s breakup feels forced. That whole thing with Casey and Raph. Im also tired of the art. TMNT are usually drawn with so many artists on different issues, what’s going on right now is just too repetitive. The turtles feel too much like humans than turtles now, too. Also, Armageddon game, what a let down. The story was just super boring. They also wasted Saki’s potential. Actually, there are so many wasted potentials. Just… bad.
I agree with this post
Wow. Lots to talk about there (and to be frank a lot I don't like). But I'll limit it to one beef, which is the overload of mutants. The turtles in a city full of mutants is kind of like Superman and his cousin, dog, etc on a planet full of Kryptonians. You could still tell a good story about Kal-El and Kara and Krypto and what not, but they'd be a story about a guy, his dog, and his cousin, which is very different from a story about the two most indestructible people on a planet who are forced to live double-lives. And their dog.
You know, the whole Super-dog thing is really weird.
Huh.
I think that’s fair, I always love seeing new mutants but when you add too many too fast it does water things down. I think that’s why I didn’t like the Mutanimals when I was younger now that I think about it
Funny enough there was a storyline where Kryptonians were brought back. They were given a planet and named it New Krypton. It was basically them trying to find their roles in this new society along with some other stuff.
It was an interesting story and I liked it until it got a soft retcon. Turtles could have had something similar, but the execution really needs to be on point.
Amazing art and character design. On the other side, very fanfiction-ish writing.
The writing is what I’m most afraid of
Likes: most of the art
Hates: Battle of the bands, raph kissing Alopex, Jennika and Sheena calling each other babe, literally nothing happening. I miss old IDW.
Yeah that’s what I’ve been hearing, is the battle of the bands really that bad?
It’s the worst conclusion to an arc in the entire series
By far the worst arch in any comic series I've ever read. Absolute garbage.
Agreed. I think it was issue 105-106 where COVID felt like it was gonna kill the book. It did, just not in any way I expected.
It's so bad that I didn't remember I had read it 💀💀💀
I liked the ending of Tokka and Razhar's arc even less.
That’s also pretty bad… but again that’s Sophie.
Yes it was. Sophie did everything to set up a slice of life battle of the bands arc. Set up a nemesis (the most angry, unpredictable and sore-loser-like characters in the comic), formed the band, training, ect ect.
Then...when the battle went to happen Jennika (whose image at least is based on Sophie's Turtlesona from her deviant art days) was SO AMAZING that when she started playing Bebop and Rocksteady didn't even try...they just quit before their turn came up because she was too cool then left the bar because 'they knew they lost'.
there isn't even a battle it's horrible. but it's not as bad as 4 issues of tokah and razar that ends when they get a zoom call from their "mommy"
They spent a couple issues of the comic saying if this battle of the bands didn’t happen, then the world was basically going to end, but they never expanded on why it was actually more important than any other situation where the world was going to end.
I thought it was cute tbh, I didn’t realize people hated it lol
I think it just illustrates the divide between types of fans.
The types of fans who would read a Peter Parker story where he never puts on his web shooters or who read fanfic about Clark Kent’s dating life are probably pretty into it (this is not a value judgment)
I think the folks who wanted the cool sci fi ninja book are left particularly cold (I’m in this camp)
Whether one likes it or not, it’s a SHARP left turn from how the book felt before so for some of us it’s fairly alienatinf
Agreed
I like both, I can definitely see how the pacing of overall story is very slow and there’s a lot of filler/side plots. I love that stuff, but I can see how it’s not for everyone. I definitely prefer the narrative of the first 100 issues but I still really enjoy 101-150 :P
Right I would anticipate more people from that first camp are also in the second (otherwise why were you reading it in The first place)
I think that second camp, mine, is probably less likely to have crossover. Very few of the “cool ninja slice bad ninja” guys wanna stick around for excessive social side plotting
Just explaining how I see the divide and why the reactions are fairly strong
Yeah absolutely, and that’s totally fair (honestly might be another reason why a lot of people don’t like Rise because it starts off extremely episodic and focuses on the Turtle’s relationships with one another more)
I think that and the expressly comedic tone certainly add up to that
I actually quite like Rise but some of the tone shifts rub me a little wrong
Totally fair!
I can't say I really like it at all. It's a bit of a chore to get through and I find myself skipping big parts. I love Sophie's art but the story seems too... I don't know... focused on identity or something?
I hate when the turtles get downplayed. You might ask me to elaborate on that point but honestly I don't even remember anymore. I just recall constantly feeling that way as I read it.
There have been certain aspects that seemed really intriguing that drew me back in to read (I have stopped a few times) but I don't ever feel like they go as well as they could.
Also I'm not really a fan of Jennika and I feel like she doesn't really fit in well in any place. I'd much prefer like some other commenter said that she was maybe a reoccurring character and not a permanent 'turtle'.
I did not realize so many people hate the Sophie Cambell run, I personally really enjoy it. All the different mutants are cool, I like seeing the Turtles trying to figure out how to carry on without Splinter and the conflict of missing their father while still being a little upset at how he was leading up to his death. I absolutely love Jennika in this arc, Shredder post-redemption is interesting, Venus is super cool and seeing her connect with Donnie is awesome. Mona Lisa has a cool design, but she’s kinda boring otherwise.
My biggest issue is Raph & Casey tbh, Casey mostly cuz of the way he handled the situation with Jennika and Raph because he’s just kind of become annoying and going against everyone else like it’s the start of the series again. I also don’t like how April is barely involved anymore, she’s mostly just working with Stockman and being fed up with his BS (which is real, but that’s about all she does).
I think there’s a lot that is up in the air and needs to be resolved, but other than that I very much enjoy these issues :)
I think the consensus is the concept was really 10/10 but a lot of people don’t like the unique tonal shift Campbell took. I can’t say anything at a writing standpoint but I do think the biggest problem was it’s execution and it’s difference from what most fans were looking for.
Makes sense! It definitely feels a bit different tonally, and I personally like both vibes but can see now how it’s not for everyone :P
As someone who is just reading idw hc 1 and am loving Casey and Raph's wholesome as fuck bromance, I'm sad to hear they aren't as grest later.
I don't know how you could miss it. Even barring social media, the cherry picked letters to the editors even had at least one letter published that criticized them. Now they are asking nicely for letters to be sent.
I don’t read the letters to be fair, and the social media spaces I’m in are all very positive when it comes to IDW so I haven’t seen the discourse (I’m also generally not someone who reads comics, it’s the first comic I’ve properly read)
Jennika’s weapons being claws when shredder has already claws. She should have gotten a weapon unique to herself and the rest of the cast. Like maybe bow and arrow, the smaller version of the katana (forget what’s it called). Sickle with the chain like scorpion from mortal kombat would have been cool.
I think it would’ve been cool but I really like the claws(it’s a giant turtle with wolverine claws being the main reason). Since she was in the foot clan with under shredder it shows her connection and past to the clan
I think I stopped when they introduced the punk frogs. It was pretty bad.
How so?
Sophie has great art, and when she’s not focused on the slice of life stuff, can tell a hell of a TMNT story. The only real negatives of her run for me are the slice of life bits. Just isn’t my thing. On another note, being able to put Venus in with her powers from the show without her being a deus ex machina is good stuff.
It made me stop buying comics. The pacing was mega slow after the Mutant Town arc started and the artwork went from okay to absolute trash at points.
The concept alone was interesting but not executed very well
Frankly I hate the writing in general, it just feels like fanfiction (i know a lot of people might've said this before but this is just how i feel about it). I couldn't continue past issue 130 or something like that. There isn't a single memorable moment from what I read in this run. And the pacing felt slower than a snail. I love the first 100 issues sooooooo much, but everything after that feels like a disgrace towards the series. Keep in mind that Kevin Eastman was also a writer on the first 100 issues which is probably a big reason why it really felt like tmnt.
For me, it felt too slow, and the relationship stuff felt too forced; even the break up with raph. Comics should have a little quicker pace than tv shows. By the way, I skipped like every 10 to 15 issues with this run, and I felt like I wasn't missing anything.
Hate: Jennika. And the whole mutant city/slice-of-life thing. And Shredder becoming a good guy. Also Venus. And Jennika.
Like: I wasn't forced to read it
I actually enjoy Venus, but wish she would have remained a Frankenstein monster. Also, somehow I missed the dragon scale being removed from her shell so she now has a big hole in her back…?
Jennika irks me because it was clear she was forced into the story. The latest issue I read was 148/149 and she refers to Michelangelo as “little brother”. I don’t feel like anything has really happened between her and the others to really solidify her as “family”. Just felt like another chance to try and force her as part of the team.
I don’t mind Shredder becoming a good guy so much, but it was a very drastic and sudden flip. Should have played out more like Magneto, with different opinions but joining for the greater good. This Shredder was basically “oops, I was wrong, I’m good now!”
I think the mutant city idea would have been better if it was on another planet. Strand the turtles somewhere for a while where they have to fit in with society in order to get back home. As has been said before, the turtles are just doing busy work to give them something to do.
Hate: there is a mutant version of Gaza in NYC created by a mutant terrorist detonating a mutagen bomb… lots of places to take that but instead you get relationships and small town politics, nothing feels consequential.
The turtles do things just to stay busy, but it hardly serves any kind of purpose… they just do things because they need something to do. Tons of characters are introduced while the established humans and already existing characters are shelved, but it’s just more characters, again it serves no greater story. The dialogue takes a dive, some story elements prior to 100 are just never spoken of again.
Wrong writer, wrong time.
Likes: it ends with 150
I’m only through about #120 (waiting for the hardcovers). Not a lot happens, but the turtles fought like hell to have a bit of peace. They deserve to chill out for a bit, not hide for a bit and just enjoy their lives together and, even better, as part of a community.
There is an issue somewhere in the 1-100 area (think it’s one of the macro-issues) where Leo finishes the issue by realizing he just wants to live with his brothers and not fight anymore, and that’s why their fighting. Well this is basically that, or at least that’s how I view it.
Personally, I was getting a bit bored around the tricerton invasion issues. Like roughly issues 80-90 area. Bishop hung around too long imo. Too much military stuff going on with him in the book. So 101+ was a breath of fresh air in that sense too
As a reader of the collections(hardcovers) as well, I definitely get a feeling of one thing after the other with the last conflict resolving only half way. I’m not upset with it but I like the idea that we get to really slow down and see the turtles in the down time
I love the artwork
Definitely not the art
Jennika is a crappy character added just to be inclusive.
Everyone's reasons are really justified! I love conversations like this. I do enjoy this line of comics, even if it goes off a bit and arguably Sophie wasn't sure how to handle everything.
I believe it makes for a really good story arc that many new readers will be able to relate to more. Recently comprehended concepts in real life that were integrated into their story, allows for growth in the story and in the audience! I have opinions on things, like T&R, but all-in-all I have really enjoyed this timeline and the possibilities that could open up from it!
I’m in the “didn’t mind it camp, even though I can definitely see how others don’t like the slice of life/romance comic it kind of turned into. What I liked about it was for the turtle boys to be able to have an “actual life”, kind of like the end of Mutant Mayhem. I kinda liked the Battle of the Bands stuff too, no major spoilers but I personally like when good/bad guys get along, especially if there’s strong personalities on each side.
You cant spoil what didn't happen.
I commented on Sophie Campbell's X/Twitter account that I wasn't really feeling her pacing and she replied that she felt the same way which I guess might indicate some editorial interference or some such. I won't lie, I felt the slice-of-life pacing was getting a little too slow for my taste but when introducing a whole sleuth of new characters while trying to do their character development in a limited number of issues and Armageddon Game hanging over her head, she kind of needed to compromise.
What I liked was how she handled the Turtles being brothers but drifting apart. Not really out of spite like how Leo and Raph usually do but like how real families eventually find their extended families and priorities change for a lot of them. Leo focusing on his Dojo and Crime fighting, Mikey was really getting in on his Podcast/Journalist gig, Donnie trying to make Magic and Science work while Raph tries (and fails) to reconcile with a love lost. Jennika's character development wasn't my cup of tea, the music angle felt very forced but I guess it's still a unique character trait.
All in all, I think with IDW planning the relaunch and having to work in the mess that was Armageddon Game which under-delivered badly, I can't feel too upset with her work. I wouldn't mind seeing her take another crack at it some day.
yeah but is ninja turtles drifting apart really something you want to read about in a ninja turtles comic? sounds depressing.
I think it's a natural progression of families and growing up. They lost their father, they found new lives, dealing the consequences of their actions like Raph's cooperation with Hob that triggered the Mutagen Bomb and responsibilities for themselves in a world bigger than they knew (Mutant Town, public New York) and how this changed their lives for better or worse. Honestly Campbell's writing touched on it enough but again, balancing so many characters was tough. As for depressing, can't be as bad as The Last Ronin's current canon right?
OP, dive in and form your opinions. I've seen a lot of hate for the Campbell run. I'm on issue 124 now, plowing through the hardcovers to catch up.
While her work is a different tone and pace, I especially loved her writing for the first few issues after 199. A lot of silent moments with the turtles as they were wrestling with the events of 100.
While the rest of her run so far is a very slice of life.kind of story, I can appreciate it for what it is, especially knowing we're about to o get dark and action packed again with the relaunch.
I’m really glad I posted this, I think there’s a lot of good things for this series. Maybe not at sharp in writing but still emotional and a unique take on the turtles. I think I’d be more than willing to give this series a chance when I finish up Waltz story
You can also catch up for free on Kindle unlimited!
Who is the other turtle? Just a question!
The other turtle is a girl named Jennika, a member of the foot clan
Thats awesome! Ibe never heard of her before. Im going to have to get into some comics!
I don't hate it, but can't say I am in love with it either. I never felt like I wanted to stop reading it, if that helps. I think Sophie was handed a big job, taking over the comic after a huge in universe change. It's hard to keep a comic on the rails after that, I would imagine.
I just started the Armageddon game so take my words with salt
I honestly really like this run thus far. I found a lot of the early mutant town issues to be comforting, and I really love the story ark of watching the turtles training the m bomb survivors, and seeing them slowly build a resistance. I also really like the segments and stories told without dialogue. I just feel like it gives these stories more emotional weight.
I feel like it’s a bit convoluted tho. For instance, i feel like it would have been better to focus on only jennika’s romances in the main plot instead of the whole gangs for instance
I also feel like perspective plays a massive role in how i am enjoying this, versus how others do. I started the comics about a month ago, with the intention of catching up in time for 150. I feel like I appreciate it more from the lens of someone who started in 2024, and saw early mutant town as a change of pace after a really intense road to 100, especially as my favorite part of idw turtles was the first 30 or so issues which also had a more emotional heartfelt feel to it. I feel like I would have hated reading it as it came out due to the monthly pace of comic releases, as well as the fact that a slower ark about building community and political unrest came out during the lockdown, a time which for many signified the destruction of their communities, as well as intense political unrest. I genuinely wonder if idw tmnt post 100 would have been received differently if, say, the road to 100 or Armageddon game event released in 2020 instead of the first year of mutant town.
I feel like I have significantly more to say on this particular topic, but I will leave with these thoughts cause I have a lot
TL:DR, I enjoy it heavily, yet feel like my enjoyment is heavily biased by where I am in life atm, and the fact that I read it for the first time in a binge read instead of as it released in real time.
I have read all of the issues in the hardcover IDW Collection volumes up through issue 100. Where would I start back up again if I want to just skip the entire Sophie run? Issue #151?
As someone who read the mutant town arc in one sitting I enjoyed it but I can definitely see how it can get irritating when you want the next adventure. I always like Mona Lisa being smitten with Donatello though and it was nice to see the turtles putting their skillsets for the Mutant community like Ralph patrolling the streets, Alopex feeding the mutants, Donatello getting Power to every one, Mikey with his radio station, and Leonardo teaching people. I actually love that all that stuff.
It feels like a weird furry fanfiction
I absolutely adore the art style! Definitely one of my favorite aesthetics for the TMNT!
I absolutely adore the art style! Definitely one of my favorite aesthetics for the TMNT!
I really like Mutant Town. Changing the dynamic by making them members of a whole neighborhood of mutants trying to adjust in a segregated community really intrigues me.
I love everything until Armageddon games...
Mutant town was fun, I liked Jennika and all the new mutants , but everything about magic and the rat king was not enjoyable for me...
I don't get the point of the game, all the actors could have played a role without the rat king...
Magic didn't feel right either...
Also, no Seymore or Mondo... wtf :(
But the Punk Frogs kick ass!
Who is the extra turtle?
Jennika, former foot ninja turned turtle
The turtle with a yellow bandana is named Jennika, she's the second female ninja turtle to be created in the entire TMNT franchise.
Pretty unique setting for the TMNT. I like the characters that were built up by this point so seeing them in a more of a day by day story didn’t really irk me as much as it seems to have irked others
I like it, and I think there’s a lot of character work that some folks missed. It’s a story about Four brothers and their extended families learning to deal with the death of their father, and suddenly finding their way in a world where they are no longer in the shadows. A lot of Firsts. We have never seen what the Turtles are like this long after their fight with the Shredder before. What do the Turtles do to cope with the loss of Splinter? How do they cope with being community leaders and public figures? Now in Mutant town how do they feel being part of a larger mutant community? What kinds of problems can they fix and what do they make worse by trying to fight it? Then you get the Mayor Baxter Stockman stuff, Lady Null and everything leads up to the discovery of Venus (not really a Turtle), but the awakening of their mystical abilities and mentorship of Oroku Saki. Donatello, seemingly created the means to destroy the universe, and Michelangelo trying to find a connection. There’s more to it than just a Slice of Life, or Battle of the Bands. There’s depth of character and it’s something different than the four just fighting the same battles against the Foot Clan and the Shredder. One more thing I loved, as a fan of the Archie Series I love the inclusion of the characters like Cherube, Cudley the Cowlick and the Nova Posse! The first 100 issues are untouchable in terms of storytelling, but I do really enjoy 101-148 so far.
I think that’s what I find most interesting, I love the story of the brothers more than anything and I’ll take fast action or slow emotional beats to get it.
I dropped IDW long before Sophie took over. I hated the pantheon, Bishop’s reveal made my stomach turn and Slash getting blown up was the nail in the coffin. I put the series down and nothing shown since made me want to pick it up again.
I've thoroughly enjoyed the run she had, hes followed up on long running storylines and made the world feel bigger, she had the turtles working to actually cement splinters legacy as heroes of the town and not just people who fight evil(there is a difference) them trying to do a common good just for the sake of it is something that gets overlooked in tmnt media.
This sub doesn't like her run but I sure do
I feel like mutant town should have been seperate from the main line comic. An Ongoing series for Jennika and The Mutanimals and all the new characters to star in. Regular main line could cross over with it, but it should have been its own separate story.
It's very clear that Sophie didn't really know what to do with the brothers, April, Casey, or any of the existing plot. I also hate what they did to close out Tokka and Rahzar.i didnt mind future Lita, but the close out of their story was weird. Im also not a fan of redeeming Koya, or the idea that her and Leo will be romantic partners. I'm not every fan, but I'm not big on slice of life stories... which is what she wrote for a chunk of her time.
