Why is this card worth 20$
QuestionNot that it couldnt sell for that price, there are a lot of rare cards that sell for that price or more for the badge you cant get from the points shop. When you look the history of that card you see somebody already payed even more than 20$ for the card. Always a question of supply and demand.
Yes, you can't look into people heads. But it's nice when you get the money for a full game with a free card, I've been lucky enough to do that myself a few times ⌃⌃
Nvm, just was scrolling through steam db digimon masters online has multiple foilcards for over 1k. People are insane.
The prices on those are crazy because there's no way to get new Digimon Masters Online cards anymore, but they can still be sold on the market. The Steam Summer Gataway cards are like this also.
Can't you just (when you own the game) craft boosterpacks?
Normally yes, but not for Digimon Masters Online, as all normal ways to obtain cards have been disabled for that game. No More Room in Hell cards also seem to be like this.
Ah i see.
Well I found my new side hustle 😂
The problem with booster packs is it's pure RNG. Maybe you get a lucky foil drop, and maybe you're even luckier and it's the exact foil you want, but that's ridiculously unlikely. I've opened several thousand booster packs over the years, but never accumulated a full foil set that way. Don't waste your time. :)
It's far simpler to buy the foil cards directly from the market, rather than rolling the dice with countless booster packs. And if the foil cards for that game are too expensive, and even the buy orders are outside your budget, screw that badge and leave them for someone else to buy. :)
The only time I use the booster pack -> foil RNG plan is when I'm going to craft both the "level 5" normal badge and the foil badge. In that situation I'll make a booster pack every 24 hours and see what happens. Sometimes I'll get a foil card or two, saving a bit of money on the foil badge. Hopefully it's two different foil cards - finding foil trades for some random game is almost impossible. :(
Everyone has a different budget. The foil badge game isn't for normal people. Like expensive skins - who buys all this stuff? People who can afford it, that's who.
Sure it looks a bit silly to me, but for some people $100 isn't enough money to care about. Like the saying goes, if you have to ask you can't afford it. :)
Is it a good price or no ?
If you have one of https://steamcommunity.com/market/listings/753/2055290-Blue%20Wisp%20Card%20%28Foil%29 to sell, you can get USD $1.16 for it right now - check the buy orders. You could also put it up for a higher price and pray. Maybe someone pays your higher price, maybe not. There's no way to know.
So 20$ is too high ?
Umm, nobody knows. You can see that someone is willing to pay USD $1.16 for that card, right now. That's the highest buy order currently.
You can also see the card's sale history - click "Lifetime". People have paid more than that in the past. How much would someone be willing to pay for that card in the future? Nobody knows!
There's only one level possible for a game's foil badge, so I will only buy a game's foil cards once. Maybe tomorrow a different foil badge collector person will want those cards, and maybe not.
Hmm... If I were trying to sell that card myself, I'd probably try undercutting the current cheapest card by a lot, just ask for a few bucks and see what happens. If nobody buys it in a month or so, I'd lower the price. If it still doesn't sell, I'd take the $1.16 and call it a day.
Backgrounds in general used to be overpriced
I remember doing some background shopping back before the point shop. The solid color backgrounds were almost universally at a premium, and especially the dark colors, greys, and blacks. It was frustrating.
I bought back in the day such expensive emoticons which are now like 5 cent.... It's so sad.
The solid color backgrounds were almost universally at a premium, and especially the dark colors, greys, and blacks.
Lame af. Especially when black or so is the default
I once sold a background for 11$ so people do buy it.
Spiffing brit made a video like this
Can confirm that if not many people sell curtains cards they're value goes up regardless of the actual rarety of the card
Yeah if you manage to get a foil right when the cards get added to a game you can get a decent amount for some games as long as there are only a few cards on the market and you act quickly.
Or any cards really the card I sold wasn't a foil it was just that the game it was from had only recently gotten cards
But it is tho? If there's only 1 on sale, and it's selling for 20. Then the price is 20...
Umm, just like every other time someone asks this question, it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay. :)
You can try to sell a random foil card for $500, but until someone buys it, it's not worth $500. Check the current buy orders and the sale history - that's what this stuff is really worth.
Most people ignore foil badges but some goofballs do collect them - generally the cheapest ones, or one for a favourite game. If you're not picky and just want to make a number go up, there are thousands of cheap foil sets out there. There's also a lot of stupidly priced stuff - you can sort https://steam.tools/cards/ by price if you're curious.
If you randomly get a foil card drop for the right game, you might get lucky and make a few bucks. Not enough to matter, but it's free money.
I collected the Eversion one. Cool yet expensive.
Most foil cards are expensive depending on the game. They are used to get the special foil badge on your profile however depending on the game foil cards might be higher than the default card.
It is a Foil card, they are rare and collectors like Foil cards.
Someone at level 1700 and maxed out on normal badges that he can find might try to buy a set of foil cards for exorbitant prices. Because money no longer matters to them at that point they just want to flex their high level.
Not that it matters, but... :)
If you're trying to get a super high Steam level, and you already maxed out all the cheap normal badges, you don't have to switch to expensive foil sets. You can level up much more cheaply with the (unlimited) Summer/Winter sale badge, available every six months.
There sorta is a limit lol. Steam bans you from adding any more money to your wallet once you reach a certain amount per session, or at least this was the case a few years ago. So any one person can only add so much money per account to buy cards with every seasonal sale. But I guess you could have alt accounts buy cards for you too, those Arab princes with giga levels on steam and ridiculous CS inventories probably do just this.
Interesting, hopefully I won't ever waste enough money on badges to notice the limit. It's a pretty dumb hobby, you pour money down a hole but the hole never fills up. :)
Hmm... I sorta remember hearing that some mega-rich Qatari with lots of Steam levels had screwed over some people one time. Was it (allegedly) not paying for a colossal mountain of trading cards, something like that?
Fortunately I've never needed enough trading cards to contact a wholesale distributor of Steam levels. Just click the "Buy remaining cards on the Market" button. :)
Man, I wish I understood Steam trading cards..I guess I should watch a video.
Because someone put it up for 20 dollars. I see no reason why that would be so confusing.
The Tails and Orbit card are outrageous priced as well around 100 dollars people are trying to sell it for 💀
The last one sold was $9.62. I'm guessing the person just listed it at that price in case someone really needs it. It doesn't mean it will ever sell for that price.
It may not be but that may just be what people are listing it at. It is a foil card so it is rarer then regular and they always tend to sell more but its only "worth" what someone is actually paying for it not what its priced at.
Cause Blue Wisp
Worth ≠ price
i bet Spiff did something to bloat the price
rare cards worth big money
wait the game trading cards can be foil *?
Yes. And I believe they have a really low chance of being obtained. As far as I know, you can only get them from the marketplace or foil packs. I don't think they drop any other way. And I doubt the chance of getting a foil pack is high.
You can also get them randomly.
Source: I got one, sold it for like 2 dollars.
Nice. I think I got a pack once. But I also wanted the badge... So rip free money.
I’ve gotten multiple foils from just playing.
I don't think I've gotten many. I've got 4 full foil ~1 badge, 2 in progress foil badges totally 7 cards together. Though 2 of those full badges was from the Steam awards. With what seems like an 8 year old account. And I'm sure some of those cards I bought. I know I bought most of the cards for those Steam awards badges. And I bought some for two badges from games. So I think for me, the drop is quite low.
But I'm pretty sure card drops also rely on other people crafting badges. So maybe low popularity plus bad rng for me
I don’t know if I have any foil badges since I don’t generally spend money on badges. Most games don’t give enough drops for a badge so my badges mainly come from trading duplicate cards.
One trading card in 100 is a foil, it's pure RNG. If you aren't big into the whole Steam trading cards thing, you might never have seen one. But if you've idled all your games for the card drops with ASF or whatever, you've probably seen lots of them.
You can craft a foil badge like a regular badge, by collecting a full set, but since the prices of foil cards can get silly most people just sell them.
why not
Its just how the community market works, I remember selling few of my Foil cards up to 30$-40$ back when trading card was a thing and new.
In the steam cards system you have normal and foil cards. Foil cards are a rare drop pit of card drops (from new games that you own) or this little bundles you can get by leveling up you steam profile.
As lesser people play a game, as lesser cards exist. Even lesser foil cards. The foil cards have a unique badge wich is additional to the 5 badge lvls you have with the normal sets.
Not a single card on Steam is worth a single cent. It's like Bitcoins, just because people are actually giving money to get some doesn't mean it's a sane thing to do.
Technically, it's not worth it. It's just in very limited supply, and the owner wants somebody to pay him that amount.
Spoiler: most likely, no one will pay that amount. You can see the last sold graph to see the actual price and demand for an item, it's much more representable in terms of item value.
Oh nice
60w
The game's even shit lmao
ive only sold a handful of duplicates and i had them to literally less than 10 pence as i set them to what they sold for on average
Who said it is? Its YOU as a consumer deciding how much you want to pay for it. You don't want to spend 20 dollars? Then don't. Simple as that. Its called Community Market for a reason.
Also foil on default are more expensive because they are rare. Average foil is like 0,25-1 euro
How glitchy is SCU for you? I sometimes had one where hitboxes would disappear entirely and made me unable to beat some bosses.
Because someone is willing to pay for it. Foil cards are rare. And some people REALLY like their cards. Like, being super into them. So it only make sense such levels of demand would create equal levels of supply/pricing.
Because there are numpties out there willing to pay that price for it.
Ok but who the fuck trades these pngs
Lots of people trade steam cards. Increase the level of your account which lets you get more showcases on your profile, not to mention it's just fun to collect and display badges of games you like.
Personally, I used a bunch of cards to trade for TF2 metal, which let me get the full loadout and a bunch of cosmetics, was pretty nice.
do you guys think this card is going to get sold for that price ?
no. Looking at the marketplace for the item, there has only been sold 2 cards the last few months.
one for a bit over 8 and the other for around 4 i think.
Just because people put stuff on the marketplace for stupid high prices does not mean anyone will actually buy it at that price.
Just like nfts. It's pointless
wow only $20????? I'd pay 500 for that. crazy bargain
It's not. The community market is made by the community (shocking) Probably no one else put the card on the market (or only a few) and they just put it as 20$. I once saw someone put a background for multiple 100$ for the exact same reason. Backgrounds in general used to be overpriced as emoticons (not all but a few) glad the pointshop exists.
