And why "my girlfriend finally wants to start Star Wars, what's the best order to watch it for the first time?"?
What is the most frequently asked question here?
General Discussion"my significant other doesn't like Star Wars, how do I force them to watch it?"
"now that I finally convinced them, what's the best order to introduce the movies??"
It's like the ouroboros
The circle is then complete.
It’s like poetry, it rhymes!
I personally just go 1-9 with the other movies sprinkled in respectively if it goes over we’ll rewatch and add in mini series like clone wars/rebels/mando/etc
“I recently rewatched (star wars movie) and I think it’s really underrated. Anyone else who feels this way”
Empire Strikes Back is really underrated!
Jedi and the Ewoks are better!
WTF has Empire been overrated? It's literally the best damn movie in the entire franchise! LMFAO xD
/s
Someone posts this about Solo every week
“Am I the only one that”
That one is so insanely annoying to me
7 billion people but yeah you're the chosen one, the golden kid
Absolutely hit the nail on the head there!
Midichlorians off the charts bro.
Perhaps, but some people--like me (who never uses that phrase anyway, oddly)--has the right to ask it when phrasing questions such as, "Am I the only one that...really, really, REALLY hates Rogue one?"
People like me will ask this when we see evidence with our eyes that points to a strong and disturbing evidence to the contrary, LMFAO
So right! This always annoys me here and everywhere. For future reference, no you are not the only one, you will never be the only one, and you should look for something else to make you feel special.
No, pretty sure I'm the only one. :P (See point referenced above, LOL)
"I'll get downvoted to oblivion for this but"
This one drives me insane. Moreso than "Am I the only one," LOL
Am I the only one that thinks TLJ sucked?
Three threads down: “Unpopular Opinion” With the subject stating why TLJ is peak Star Wars.
"Am I the only one that thinks [insert super popular opinion]"
It's a serious problem throughout all of reddit.
I'm glad /r/cars now has a bot for that.
It’s always “am I the only one that thought rogue one was really good?” even though Rogue One is probably the most generally popular Disney Star Wars film
Which is why, as I mentioned earlier, I've earned the right to use "Am I the only one that,"--even though, again, I never use that wording, LMFAO--when discussing Rogue One, LMFAO because it really feels like I'm the only one that hates it! xD
“Does anybody else here NOT hate the prequels?!”
To be fair though, the prequels were relentlessly pissed on by people all over the Internet until Disney made the Sequels and showed them what an actually bad trilogy looks like.
Wow, it's almost as if people who can't allow others enjoy things should just let people be so in 10-15 years we're not in this cycle of hell again.
I don't see the issue with critiquing something. We'll die as a civilization if we don't. Even a strongly worded critique should never be shunned, IMO.
There's a time and a place, and for the most part, a statute of limitations. Additionally I very rarely see constructive criticism surrounding the ST, there's usually a lot of misinformation and heel digging from people who refuse to admit when they're wrong or have a misunderstanding of things.
I have my fair share of criticisms surrounding the trilogy as well, I don't boil them down to "an actually bad trilogy" nor do I shoehorn them into any conversation regardless of the relevancy. I also don't inconsistently criticise one film while praising another that does the exact same thing. I especially don't sit there and act like people who do like them are bad/wrong/stupid for doing so which also dominates much of the criticism discourse.
I don't have an issue with constructive criticism, but that's not what we see when the topic of the ST comes up the vast majority of the time.
Yeah, I'm getting that on Rogue One comments around here, LMFAO
I disagree with the Statute of Limitations, but I appreciate your overall points. And I agree; a lot of the issue with both the NEW sequels--well, as far as TFA is concerned, LMFAO--and the prequels--well, where ROTS is considered, LMFAO--is that people are hating just to hate most the time.
That's the inherent value of learning to critically judge a work properly. I never base my criteria on the Universe the movies take place in for much of my complaints, though the Universe does play a role as well. I always start with characterization and plot. Do these things stand up in terms of not what makes a Star Wars movie great, but what makes ANY movie great? Then I start digging in to the universe elements.
I've been pointing out--which pisses a LOT of people off--that the things that the Prequels and the NEW Sequels get blasted for are evident in spades in Rogue One, but NO ONE likes to hear that. It took me awhile to figure out what was going on, but I address it on one of my videos.
I speculate that after Lucas blasted TFA, the diehards wrote it off. Disney approached Lucas and threw some cash at him knowing that his opinion heavily influence the success/failure of subsequent movies. Lucas turned around and said TFA actually wasn't that bad, but the damage was done. He then praised the shit out of Rogue One and the diehards gobbled all that up.
It's amazing that Lucas didn't know enough--according to people--to keep so many from hating the Prequels. But his opinion is somehow Gold when discussing someone else's interpretation of his vision. >_>
With this franchise, as with Life, the Hypocrisy is amazing. :/
I thought TFA was pretty decent, actually. I think everyone forgets its purpose as a set-up film in a new Trilogy... I always cut those some slack.
Rogue One, on the other hand...which...people...rank as the best...of all the new Star Wars movies... *Scratches head till it bleeds, LMFAO*
Release order.
Mods really need to pin that one
Bold to assume redditors will read that pinned topic any more than the "no memes allowed" pin.
This
So obviously, the solution is "don't try, but still leave that 'no memes' pin, because a post that's helpful and addresses an often-asked question is less important than a rule reminder that people don't pay attention to. Because why should we do anything to make the sub a nicer place for people when we can just coast on things that were set up a decade ago?"
I didn't say we shouldn't make a pinned thread but ok, go off with that hostility for some reason.
I said that it ultimately wouldn't slow the threads as much as some people hope.
Frustration was not intended for you, apologies. Just kind of screaming into the void in response to what you brought up.
Please
I’d say release order for the episodic saga. Then after you’ve done episode 9 go watch Solo, then Rogue One. Then you have the perfect segue into episode 4 and you just do it all over again forever.
That was my thought when someone asked the other day "what now?" after finishing the 11 movies.
"You do it all over again, obviously."
DAE love Rouge One?
Misspelled and everything
In the longest stretch, Ewan does star in Moulin Rouge… maybe a Freudian slip? (Doubtful tho)
I'll also add "what would you like to see in a star wars what if series?"
This.. this right here^ kills me inside
more like *who would you like to see
fans never have any actual ideas. they just want old characters to reappear everywhere.
Yep. This is what makes me worry for future Star Wars content.
See my above reply, LOL Frankly, I don't see it as a massive issue in this regard--there's an explosive array of millions of characters that have never touched the Golden Screen that Dizzy could use.
A great example is why they even bothered with TFA (which I cut slack to and even enjoyed, keeping in mind it was a set-up for a new Trilogy) when the perfect post-ROTJ movie had already been written...by Timothy Zahn...
But by the same token, Dizzy made movies using all-new characters with the pre-existing ones as Support and look how that turned out! LMFAO
The Sequels are different really, given that they were always going to feature the old characters, as it was a continuation of their story. My issue is more shoehorning recognisable characters into stories where they’re not necessary, such as the Mandalorian or the Bad Batch, which was full of these little cameos mainly designed to make audiences gasp with excitement and increase their viewing figures.
Gotta love the Fan-Service when it's so poorly implemented, ROFLMGDFAO
"I don't like animation, should I watch the Clone Wars?"
like bro you're going on the Star Wars subreddit what do you think the answer is going to be
Well tbf if they asked about Resistance the overwhelming majority answer would be "no." There was a time when Rebels wasn't recommended either.
“Does anybody else think Rogue One is the best!!?????”
Nah, they always misspell Rogue as Rouge.
They must have wandered over from r/formula1
*Rouge One
Does anybody thing Rogue One is the--well, at the time of TFA--worst?
Fer real...just me?
Did you ever hear the Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise?
No...
Painfully unoriginal.
This is it, this is it right here, the theme of the thread laid bare.
Only recent, but "Kennedy should be fired and throw into a pit and Favreau and Filoni need to rule in her place."
And 9/10 times it's spelled "John".
sorry /u/discogeek, you forgot to phrase your response in the form of a question
Not necessarily always a question, but «Unpopular opinion:…»
And never unpopular
"Unpopular opinion: I think this movie with a 92% score on rotten tomates is actually pretty good"
Except in my case. The idea that Rogue One was a tremendously horrific waste of time...given that its entire premise is that a gaping "Plot-Hole" in Star Wars which was actually a real-world function doing it's very real-world job...is one of the most horrible theme to make a movie around. Especially given all the deus ex required to make that "Plot-Hole" into something that was designed to be exploited.
I mean, c'mon? They mentioned how difficult it would have been in Star Wars to ram two Photon Torpedoes down the throat of a real-life mechanic doing it's very real-life job and someone decided to make that an exploit? "Hey guys, I've created this weakness in the Empire's super massive and almost invulnerable weapon. Here's how you destroy it. Off the street, off the dumpster, off the lamppost, off the car tire, off the windowsill, off the 7-11 entryway, off the 3:10 Express bus, off the trash can by the supermarket, off the billboard just outside City Limits...nothing but net." ROFLMGDFAO
Unpopular Opinion Slavery was bad
I find a common question asked several times a day is "Is Rebels any good?".
Yeah that ones starting to annoy me too. Just start watching it and make your mind up for yourself!
“Has anyone heard of or seen Solo it was actually surprisingly good!”
The order question always annoys me, whether it’s Star Wars or the MCU, or whatever. Release order! It’s always release order!
In all fairness, with a universe that began with a 371 page Encyclopedia for the entire universe which had to be expanded to three volumes of about the same length each, or when dealing with Marvel's Infinite Timelines, or DCU's Infinite Infinites, it's hard casual readers to jump in without guidance. Hell, it's hard for experienced readers to dive in without guidance if they've taken a break...
Or is this referencing the fact that said orders are so easily Googled to begin with? LOL
Why are you an idiot? Don't you realize how I'm right and you're wrong?!
Considering that scene was the only good thing about Rogue One and the only reason people even thought Rogue One was so "OMG! Best Star Wars movie EVA!" I'm inclined to agree. >_>
What books to read gets asked a lot
"My 3D Printed helmet is stuck what can I use to get it off"
“Is Rebels good?”
It's like going to the Stephen King subreddit and seeing ten posts asking if anyone there has read IT.
Correct. WhaT ORder shOuLd i [watch the movies / show my spouse or child].
Show the movies and shows in chronological order. She’ll understand the story better that way and I personally think it’s the better way to show someone Star Wars rather than the release order
Chronological > Release order. I’m not 100% sure if it’s true but I read in an article that Lucas apparently said the best way to watch is chronologically.
I disagree. Release order is the answer regardless of the franchise. Later films can build on the world building of those released prior to it, and this doesn’t always make so much sense if important details are left out by watching out of order.
I see what you’re saying, but it can also be confusing when someone is watching and is getting thrown around so many different time lines. Watching chronologically shows how the galaxy got to the position where it’s at. The first few times I watched in release order, this time around I’m doing it chronologically and I’m honestly preferring it. I’m also watching all movies/shows not just the main 9.
Agree. It’s ANH that first explained what the force and the Jedi are, and the OT gradually build on those points. If you go straight in on TPM (assuming you have no prior knowledge on this stuff), the Jedi just flying in and using loads of force powers and not really mentioning it would be quite confusing.
I agree. I wish chronological was my original order including tcw
OFC Lucas is going to say that! LMFAO
Just curious what you mean by that. Does he gain something by suggesting that. IF he did say that why not listen to the creator of the franchise.
Just me being a random smart-ass, LMFAO Carry on! xD
Who shot first?
This one isn't a stupid question, ever since Lucas decided to give into the...confused...people who somehow think it was above Han to shoot first.
The correct answer is Han shot first. No Special Edition will ever change that this was the way it was, and--more importantly--the way it should be.
Why sequels are so bad?
Which of the original characters does George Lucas still own the rights to?
How come A new hope is the fourth one if it came out first?
Because it may be the fourth chapter but it’s the best chapter
I meant it as a most asked question, not me actually asking it.
Gotta start with the first one of course
DEA sequels bad !!1!1!1!!1!1
What about the droid attack on the wookies?
How does Vader go to the toilet?
"How do I watch the movies because I can't use Google?" followed closely by "I don't like animation should I watch The Clone wars/Rebels?" and in last place "my significant other doesn't like Star Wars, how do I force them to watch it?"
