Hello, my name is Drew Marting and I am a first-year student at California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo. I have realized recently that women's sports hardly get the same attention that male's sports do on national sports news. In fact, women’s sports coverage only accounts for 15% of all US sports broadcasting and is often littered with sexist remarks and poor production quality. I have found that broadcasting networks refuse to give women’s sports the stage because they don't have an audience, but how can they have an audience when they aren't featured?

If sports fans, like you, start to incorporate women’s sports into their watch patterns, whether that be through cable or streaming, networks may start to pick up on their growing fan base and dedicate more effort to featuring female sports. Supporting sites like espnW and Women’s Sports Network can help to show this newfound interest.

Supporting these networks doesn’t require you to be disloyal to your old teams, nor does it require you to drop all allegiance to your favorite sports networking hosts. Instead, just starting by giving women’s sports the time of day and going out of your way to watch or listen to them does enough to show networks that sports fans want to see change in their programming. You may even find that, in the end, you enjoy female sports as much as or more than men’s!
