Disagree. There are probably about 1000 improvements you could make to air traffic alone that would improve things. My guess is that as safe as plane travel is, it could be made safer still by at least an order of magnitude. There are just two many dumb and stupid things in the system to believe that isn't the case. And most of them are obvious to people not even intimately involved in it.
For example why don't planes have external cameras? Why don't they have cockpit cameras. Why isn't the black box recording video. Why isn't the checklist digital and integrated into the planes systems. Why isn't there a visual representation of bad weather system. Why don't air traffic control know about TCAS alerts a plane is receiving so they can avoid giving instructions inconsistent with the TCAS.
At some point when Starlink becomes ubiquitous in planes my guess is that the passengers will actually be in some cases providing better information and getting better information via their smart phones than the pilots are getting in their cockpits.
