Worth $225?
DiscussionSo for my 2010s that I haven’t worn in 2-3 years should I worry next time I wear them?
go wear em, if something happens you can swap midsoles really easy on 3s.
Who can swap them for me
i’d do it yourself, only need shoe cement and a new midsole. stuff like nike dunks and jordan 1s are way harder to swap, because stitching and small surface area to apply cement to, but 3s are pretty easy. there’s a ton of videos on it
Do not do it yourself. Pay someone or buy a new pair. Resoling shoes is not a diy project. Them shits will look crusty if you do them
they’ll only look crusty if you rush it or forget to remove the glue from beforehand. i’ve done quite a few swaps, j3 swaps are extremely simple and can look pretty professional if done with care by anyone
there’s people you could pay to do it (i would) but it’s definitely more expensive
I can swap real easy if u need.
Don't store in the box with paper. Take them out and at least wear them around the house.
They have the straight up and down cracking that shows they're ready to crumble too. Midsole near the vamp and the black under the elephant print. I think these would def crumble, but not a terrible price if you plan on doing a sole swap
It was only 225
I hope he stored them right. U might be alright but crumble crumble instantly with 0 effort...it has nothing to do with how u wear them or how u walk If they're crumbled...I could lightly just rub the midsole n it'll turn to pebbles of phylon.
No, considering how long ago these came out, you have no idea how these were stored, which are gonna affect the polyurethane midsole; they may crumble easily or very soon.
What's the best way in storing sneakers?
Air is the biggest culprit...Air which contains humidity and or too dry an environment. Light is also a big culprit. I have 650+ kicks and ones as old as 30 years and they aren't crumbling. I wear my 1999 4s and 2000 Olympic 6s often. But I keep my shoes in climate control storage...depending on value n rarity I either keep them in 2.5 gallon zip lock bags or vacuum seal the extreme valuable ones. I use silica packs when humidity is high in summer and a dehumidifier. In winter I just keep them in their dark storage and are tight. Only phylon crumbles. That is almost every Jordan and Nike with 3 key exceptions. Jordan 1s, Dunks, and Air Force ones. Those are all rubber and won't crumble. I have 2 pairs of those 3s and mine are so far from crumbling...if u want to wear them ask the seller to do a "wear test video"...a crumbling shoe will instantly crumble under any worn wait or bend...they can't be worn or walked in. If he can show u that on video then yeah 225 is good. Imo ppl aren't taking care of their stuff right if these are crumbling but that just me.
Thanks for this! I just started collecting and I kinda wanna keep the integrity of each pair for as long as possible. Hopefully, I'd be able to show them to my kids when they get older.
Exactly why I do it...im at roughly 650 pairs n conservatively they're worth $600+k luckily most of my rarest are Nike SB dunks so the soles are not going to crumble. But I have 4-5 pairs I could sell for 100k tomorrow. I've been offered 110k for what is pretty much a priceless 3 shoe set. The BCS3 sb dunks...deadstock all 3 pairs. 1 pair sold for undisclosed amount at Sotheby's n bidding was starting at 40k. I heard they went 77,000. The collection complete I believe I am the only one with it deadstock with all tags and pristine factory laced...I know because the HUGEST sb collectors with loooong money have offered large sums. I haven't paid more than 420 bucks on a shoe. I am just lucky and have connections..ive spent about 60k on my shoes...Id say 10x profit is pretty good...but in 15 years it may be 20 or 30x...so I believe I'm taking care.of investments. With my basic gr stuff I wear it all the time. I keep 70-75 pairs at home n rotate. But even with 60 pairs...if u rock thru that rotation it'll be 6 months til uve even worn each shoe 3x...so imagine 100s of pairs. Take care of ur hobby. If u ever need advice reach out. It's an investment like any other even if u wear them.
Do you recommend any specific brands for sneaker bags/storage, etc.?? They have these really cool vacuum seal bags I saw on from a sneaker youtuber but they are crazy expensive...I guess it's worth it if they work as intended.
Those bags ur talking about r nothing more than a gimmick infomercial type product. They will work but aren't even designed well. If it's got translucent sole(clearish) I use standard vacuum sealing bags and u can find black ones that don't let light in either. There's some geared toward the Cannabis industry that r great. I would only vac seal very expensive rare ones or shoes u know ur gonna be holding and not wearing for a long time. Stuff the sneakers with cloth. Old t shirt material. Don't use newspaper. U wanna stuff them so they keep their shape when u vac seal them. If ur gonna wear them then u just need the 2.5 gallon ziploc bags...they keep quite air tight. Then keep them in the dark and in the box...U can even buy humidity readers for cheap..but just go by weather report. If humidity is high like here in Summer then I use dehumidifier and silica packs. Don't store in Basements or Attics or anywhere prone to mold or frequent large changes in temperature. I dono I have a lot of very old sneakers that are very wearable and I haven't had to put too much more than the zip lock bags n moisture control. I have a "sneaker room" and the remaining giant amount of stock is in a specialty storage unit. Just zip locs does great. Vac seal if very valuable or u believe will be very valuable and won't be wearing for years...in 30 years some reimagined 3s will be worth A LOT...AND yes I could keep a pair of 3s wearable for 30 years. I've kept 6s for almost 30 years wearable. And have tons of 1999-2002 stuff wearable as can be.
This guy sneakers
Phylon isn't what crumbles. It's the older polyurethane from the 2s through around 10s. Phylon is used in 11s+ and they are good to go.
Any PU polymer midsole. I mix the 2 up...11s won't crumble the same way but they still won't last like rubber. Hydrolysis is the chemical breakdown of PU polymer. So yeah on most its Polyurethane...Phylon holds up better and cracks more than crumbles..just used the wrong p word. I know what works with mine. If kept very well then most can last really long time.
So for my 2010s that I haven’t worn in 2-3 years should I worry next time I wear them?
It depends a lot on where u live and your climate...just take ur finger and push on the PU midsole...ull know real quick if they're okay or not. Imo yes they'll be okay unless your conditions are terrible.
This is extreme. Its good to have hobbies but damn, think about all the things you could've done with your time and money rather than spend it obsessively collecting and preserving material goods. Can't take it with you brother. Is it time to release the grip a little?
These are shoes tucked away and shoes I bought almost exclusively for retail...Im a full time tattoo artist. Married..kid..so yeah I don't have to spend time with it I did it and they last. Rn...ball park lowball my collection is $600k...when I say lowball....realistically I have 5 pairs that could easily get me 100 grand tomorrow alone. I have 1 pair that I have a real offer at 37k. So yeah, keeping them in pristine condition is important. Now I spent probably around 60k on my collection...my most expensive ones r SB dunks which r rubber soles n won't EVER crumble. So I'll cash out here n there and one day they'll all be my sons...and my little 60k over 25 years of collecting (so far) will be who know...a Million maybe...I dono..its a hobby, yes I'm obsessive. Same as collecting fine art to me personally. But we all have our own things. I've never spent over 420$ on a sneaker n that was ONE pair to complete a set that's literally priceless...no1 else owns all 3 deadsrock. The 1 pair sold at Sotheby's for an undisclosed amount but bidding started at 40,000...I have the complete set...so one day I could name my price or my son could. 37k been offered and this is from a buyer who's already dropped 24,000$ on 2 pairs I spent $320 total on...pretty good return. I'm not doing this with run of the mill GR shoes...these are the rarest and most valuable as I said...2.5 gallon zip.locks isn't hard for the medium 1-4k shoes...and the others I rock.
As little humidity as possible, but this is for polyurethane midsoles. For Air Jordans they would be the 2s through 10s
Wearing them this way you won’t have that problem
So for my 2010s that I haven’t worn in 2-3 years should I worry next time I wear them?
It’s not a matter of how often you wear them, you can put gentle pressure with your thumb on the midsole and it’ll just break apart.
🤣Just let them purchase and find out for themselves. They obviously don’t understand in plain english. Some people just gotta learn the hard way.
Agreed. For their sake I hope I’m wrong and they get some good miles in them, I don’t wanna be “I told ya so” when the sole flaps open mid foot stride lol.
How the seller stored the shoes is my concern, if they live in a humid area that’s gonna be a problem.
Correct. Hey OP, where is the seller located?
You can see the cracking already starting in the left midsole
Nah bro anything over like 7 years old you should prob skip out on, the materials are prob old and uou wont be able to wear them as much without fear of them falling apart. I'd just go with the reimagined or wait for a retro soon.
Yall rnt storing kicks right if 7 yrs is ur limit...wow..I habe wearable 25 year old Jordans...multiple pairs. But I take very special care of them.
Lol 7 years ain’t the limit to how long you can wear a shoe g, but it should absolutely be a limit on how old a shoe is that you buy from somebody who could have literally kept them sitting outside for years for all you know
Exactly right. Other people are missing the point. It isn't about "storing a shoe right or wrong,"; because when buying used sneakers, you have absolutely no idea how they were stored.
Most def. I misunderstood what he meant. Shit I would wanna hold n touch anything 6 or 7 years old b4 buying. Most don't store kicks too well.
No worries. This is underrated though. I think the thing is that buying on eBay is so easy for a lot of people, they don't always take the time to consider other outlets. I know for me, eBay was my only sneaker site. But buying in person is a very wise idea.
Oh for sure, agreed. If u don't know how someone stored a shoe...Definitely be weary. Unless I could inspect myself I wouldn't wanna mess with it. I misunderstood what u meant. Got you fam. Many ppl jus pile kicks in any room in any climate so yurp!💯
So for my 2010s that I haven’t worn in 2-3 years should I worry next time I wear them?
Hey that's awesome, and honestly after like 8 wears they'll turn into sandals! Good for you
You're missing the point. The midsoles on older 3s and 4s have a tendency to disintegrate after a couple of years due to how the materials respond to humidity. It's not about how often you plan on wearing them. It's about how they were stored and where. They could start to crumble the first time you wear them.
I forgot if I saw it here or IG or YouTube a few days ago but there was a short video of some guy just lightly running his fingers on the mid sole of a 2017 AJ4 bred and it was like he ran his fingers through sand. Fucking nuts.
So for my 2010s that I haven’t worn in 2-3 years should I worry next time I wear them?
Depends on the humidity levels wherever they’ve been stored. Wearing your shoes actually helps prevent them from crumbling.
Are you stupid?
Bro asking for feedback but he’s already made his mind up
They are if you feel they are. Personally, I cap out at 185, unless I’m going for a grail.
Yeah they are a classic and they are beautiful, but I just can’t go over 200 unless it is a 2000 Rothschild to me.
I'm with you, however my max is like 240- 250 all in, and it's gotta be something I really want to pay resale.
Yeah, buy and resell them. Then buy the reimagined pair.
Not a bad idea
I like this version better than the reimagined but you run the risk of these crumbling so probably not worth it unless you plan to display them or some wack shit like that
At this point they are just for display. These will 100% crumble after a dozen regular wears.
Save your money, and pay another $100 for a 2023 pair that will last you longer.
100% right. I copped the Countdown Pack AJ 18 Bred back in 2019 and I let them sit for two years like a fool. Finally, in 2021 I put them through a wear test for the first time by wearing them to my retail job, being on my feet for like 99% of the day. The Air Zoom makes 18's the most comfortable shoe I've ever worn. Off topic.
Anyway, I only got to wear them for like a week, and on my sixth day of wear, the midsoles and outsoles separated from each other, on both shoes, regulating them to permanent display only. I learned a very valuable lesson about glue that day.
2008 to 2021 is roughly 13 years, so anything over six years is a no-no for me.
I just copped the reimagined ones an hour ago 😂
Fuck yeah they are
Is it the lighting or do those mid soles look funny. Were they painted? Are they crumbling/ i guess that is a $225 gamble you are willing to make.
Looks normal to me
Those are fresh my guy
I’ve bought shoes that were 10 years + old DS and wear them often no problems. Why so cheap tho? Must be something wrong with them. Even if they were used in that condition worth more
OP in here deleting all his idiotic responses to people letting him know those shits gonna crumble
Any Jordan’s with foam mid sole is gonna crack and deteriorate. They were built to only last so long then crumble away. What to do? Buy a new pair. The resell and sneaker on and high dollar prices is a fad. Made up on a perishable collectible if normally worn.
Only if you’re happy with ‘em and nobody’s missing a meal or has to postpone any important appointments.
Timeless
Just get fusions
I still wear my 2013 WC3’s occasionally. Zero crumbling. I had to strip and repaint the midsole once due to cracking paint, but otherwise they’re good to go.
They may not crumble. But likely, the paint will flake like crazy. I remember when I had the first release of the Nike Air tab WC3s. I think it was these if theyre the 2011 pair, God.. the leather/material was awful, shitbwas like plastic. Smh, But I loved the shit out of them. I think that was the first "nike Air" heel tab Retro that came out outside the 99s. Enjoy them, bro.
I'd suggest wearing it at home and keeping a close eye on them. If u notice deterioration or the paint starting to crack/chip/flake, maybe sell them them unless u wanna repaint or you don't care. That's my opinion
Good advice
Which year were these released in ?
Go for it, bro don’t worry about the mid soul. That happens to four mostly. I have a pair of Aj 3 DTRT that are still going strong among others that old.
Hell yea to me they are
Idk what the market is for these but they’re in my personal top 5. I’d say yes, 225 sounds good
The real question is, do you feel like they're worth that? If you like em and are comfortable with the price then good deal!
Heck yeah these FIRE!
I think the paint is just starting to crack...I dont think these are at full crumble status yet personally. But that's just off a pic that isn't super high def or close. But I think ur good. I sure pray so for you bro🙏🏻 let us know
Thx for the positivity. Will do
Best Jordan ever made tho 👑. I said it…who want smoke….🤺
Absolutely I wear mine most of the week
Cop
Seems that shoe collections should be the least of our worries. Unstable governments, wars, our upcoming elections, famine across the globe, education, book burning and I can go on and on. I know I am leaving out a lot. Just recently I had $5000+ damage to a car from squirels and that pales in comparison to other people's problems.
$5,000 worth of squirrel damage deserves its own post! 😅 Seriously I need details.
Yes
So what if the sole crumbles? Just have it fixed. $225 for those is an instacop
Agree and doubt they will crumble anytime soon
Shoes or cake?
Poor decision. These are only showpieces. Over a decade of no wear? Surefire crumblers.
Mid sole gonna crumple like Goku did to Raditz on the first episode of DBZ. Get the reimagined if you want them.
Edit: my GF got me the reimagined and they're top 3 for me
After reading your responses, please buy em 🤣 then post pics of em after worn lol
You're not going to post an update but when they inevitably crumble you're going to think about all the advice you ignored here
No
I have worn my 2011s here and there over the last decade and they are still wearable (as of 3 or 4 months ago anyway). But as others have said, this really depends on how the shoes were stored.
Nope
Never
Not worth it
Childish question
I’d find a pair of reimagined if you plan to wear.
It’s gonna cost at least 400 to sole swap. Sell as-is in good condition and buyer a newer fresh pair. It’s a rabbit hole.
Yessss
Yeah. I may be in the minority here but I think these look better than the reimagined pair.
Agree
Yes
Yea it’s a iconic classic shoe I’ve paid more for this shoe
Yes
Yeah.
Yeah
All the compliments I got means you are in store for multiple conversations about them🔥🔥🔥🫡
Worth every penny lol
Worth? I dunno ask that to the guy reselling them. Worth it for your collection? 1000 yes
Collection
Hell noq
Most is pay is like 65-70 and 50 in shipping lol
65-70? What shoes are you buying?
What, are you stupid?
Actually the exact opposite. Y’all gettin duped by a business and spend mortgage payments on shoes.
Hitting the nail right on the head my guy.
I think you buy reps
Oh shit we caught a quick one
Nope, just get the reimagined bred 4s. Easy to clean and looks better
It they’re DS you’re risking a midsole crumble. These are 11 years old
