I’m starting to consider adopting a puppy! Before I say anything else: the last two years of my life is the only time I have EVER not had a dog so I do know exactly what I’m getting myself into. After my soul doggie passed away I applied to be a foster with Love Connection, spent an hour or so on the phone with this lovely lady and then got entirely ghosted and never knew why. Not to toot my own horn, but if you talked to me about my own dogs (those that were literally mine or those that I have “stolen” from my friends that are also mine) for 5 minutes you can immediately tell that we (my husband and I) are a safe and wonderful place for a pet. I’m a firm believer in adopt or shop responsibly, but don’t really want to spend the money a responsible breeder requires and realistically want another pit mix which the shelters are just over run with anyways. I do constantly check the az humane society for fun, but want to get ahead of adoption approval with some other shelters so that when we are ready to pull the trigger we don’t have to wait on applications and such.

Lots of rambling so far so thanks for bearing with me here and we’re entering question/vent territory. It seems a lot of these shelters/rescues have INSANE requirements like you must make 600k a year individually, have a 19 foot reinforced fence, and have won at least two Nobel peace prizes in order to be eligible to adopt. I fully understand and support vetting potential adopters for the well being of the animals!! My husband and I have a combined 6 figure income, each work about 25-30 hours a week so we are home plenty, have the worlds best pet sitters in town for when we aren’t home (their dream job is to be grandma/grandpa again!!!), but we do live in an apartment which seems to be a no go. I understand that with small puppies and parvo. Any suggestions on shelters/rescues in the valley to investigate alongside the humane society and MCAC? Thanks so much!
