Why do you like living there? What were the places you didn't like and left?
Military brats: did you settle in a place as an adult that “feels like home”?
No.
I live in places where you don’t need to be a local to fit in and be accepted.
???Where
Any metro area with more than 3 million people. NYC, LA, DC, Boston, Seattle, etc. These cities are full of people from anywhere and everywhere. I live in Boston and only a handful of my friends are actually from Massachusetts.
I live in Orlando which isn’t big population wise, but the population is very transit. In my time here, I’ve only met 2 people who were born and raised here. Everyone else is just here for a time before they’re gone.
I’m probably one of those two people lol. I grew up in Cocoa, which is somewhat close enough. Even in Orlando people move around the city. I lived by UCF, off of Colonial, Winter Park, MetroWest, Williamsburg and then I settled in Hunter’s Creek.
Good point. Being a military brat, you might be used to international foods and diverse people. Cities have these.
Boston sucks for that. If you didn’t grow up there you won’t fit in. Applies to the metro area a lot, Boston proper is a little bit more welcoming due to transient college/intern social scene
I’m not originally from New York but after living here for a couple of years, almost 4 to be exact, people think I at the very least have been here since middle school or something. Eh, I’ll take it I guess. Practically nothing about me resembles where I grew up anyway except maybe my accent but even my accent is mutating toward Brooklyn.
I think most of large cities have fallen as category. New York, LA, DC. Even some growing cities like Austin or Atlanta I have a lot of transplants so it's not an odd thing when you see someone who isn't local.
