One thing that has bugged me for a long time was how our player escapes from jail and frees Johnny from jail and after that nothing. They are not wanted, not suspects of a manhunt.Nothing.They just continue their lives as if nothing happened.Maybe i missed something but can somebody explain how and why?
Johnny Gat and our player escape from prison and nobody even gives a fuck
I feel like every satirical crime story totally ignores the legal ramifications of shit that happens. Cops show up when it’s convenient to the plot.
Also, it’s heavily hinted that Troy was looking out for the remaining Saints.
yeah same thing goes with gta games lol.Like when Franklin,Lamar and Stretch go to a drug deal in recycling plant.Shit goes wrong.Lots of Ballas members dead. Then the trio has to escape the cops and when they do thats that. They return to their homes.I mean Franklin doesen't even dump the car that he used to escape the police. He even leaves it in his driveway which shows how less of a fuck game protagonists give.i kind of went of the plot, but its just like Saints Row.
Canonically it's cause they pay forgive and forget which is tied to a scientology esque religion that has power in the saints world
From memory, they got LOT of difficulty to get Gat and they basically find the player inconcious
The Player is basically Gat 2, and before they already destroy 4 powerfull gang
What the police gonna do ? arrest them ? it's a risk to lose the entire Stillwater police
not to mention Troy is protecting them because he feels Sad, Boss quickly establishes connections with influential people like Monica Hughes AND Vogel wants the gangs to wreck the city so Ultor can snatch up all that nice cheap property afterwards, the Saints' explosive resurgence was great for their plans. the church of philosotology, as in the rich people cult that operates Forgive & Forget, is constantly hovering in the background as well even if they're not really an active part of the plot. people in power just prefer for them to go free for various reasons basically
Think they had help from Chief of police, Troy
Its the "fair enough" law.
You escaped, is what it is. We tried.
They drove to Forgive and Forget after rescuing Gat from the courthouse. So the Forgive and Forget / Church of Philosotology is a thing in that universe.
The way I look at the game (and every role playing game) is that the game occurs in its own universe, with it's own laws of physics and rules of behavior, etc., and the things that happen in that game all make sense in that universe.
i was (trying to) play saints row 2 the other day and was laughing out loud thinking about this. in the world of sr2 if the cops dont catch you the first time, youre free. so i escape prison and change outfits and am fine to walk around and even commit more crimes as long as no cops see me. then i walk into a courthouse full of police and they dont care at all until i, surprise, decide to commit another crime and free my friend. its not like they dont recognize the boss because at the start of the game the cops in the prison are talking about them as if theyre a pretty famous criminal.
yeah i've also been thinking about this.I always thought that sr 2 cops were very different from any other police force. It's like a game.If they catch you they win,if you escape you're free to go and you win.
You can pretend how it is because of Troy being leader of police force and ex-Saint; he simply lets Playa to play around in Stillwater
Storytelling wasn't strong part of SR anyways
there's no need to even pretend Troy is corrupt, the game basically spells it out for us that he's looking out for the Saints
I guess they got extensive corrective face surgery or whatever to get rid of all the burns, but yeah generally you can blow up 20 tanks and run over 1000 pedestrians but get away so long as you drop $200 on Forgive and Forget.
I wish there was a cutscene where you speak to Troy in saints row 2
There is. He calls you during the Ronin storyline to tip you off on where to find Junichi.
that was Shogo
You heard Troy's VA and think that's Shogo? Make that make sense why he would want to set up his/and his father's personal bodyguard. The MOST trusted member of the ronin. Then turn around to vow revenge for killing Junichi.
if we're talking Kanto Connection's intro cutscene it's obviously Yuri Lowenthal's voice and not Rapaport's. Shogo wants Jyunichi dead because he's a selfish reckless idiot with major daddy issues and Jyunichi is very deservedly making him look bad in front of his old man. he vows revenge afterwards because he thinks it'll make daddy like him again
Bro play the game again, that’s Shogo, he wanted Jyunichi dead because he was jealous of the praise his father gave Jyunichi instead of him. Him “vowing to get revenge” for Jyunichi was nothing more than him trying to sound like a competent leader to gain his father’s respect.
That’s shogo, not Troy
Troy probably "can't find us" or something. Think about it, it's good for his job in the end. He knows that with you in charge of the Saints, it's gonna be just one gang running around causing trouble instead of 4. Plus the fact it's his homies just make it that much more secure of a plan.
As others have said, it’s implied in the opening of Saints Row 2 that for whatever reason Troy was protecting the boss and actively helping them recover. Then later Gat claims that when Troy became police chief he kept him safe in prison.
For whatever reason Troy is always loyal to the Saints, Gat, and the Boss. He never really willingly does anything against them at all, and is outright protecting them by the end of SR3.
It’s just never really explained why.
I mean they were wanted at first, then they went to forgive and forget so no longer wanted. Plug legal lee is basically saul goodman so any other charges were probably dropped
With the statute of limitations its more around 250 murders so they probably just let him off at that point
Lmao that’s just how these games are. Crime is limited to - if you get away. If it was realistic you’d still be getting constant pursuit from the first car you stole
It's definitely a combination of they're just too powerful (Playa and Gat) and the cops are on our ass the entire game anyway so it's not like they aren't still trying. I honestly think this makes the gangs seem like more of a threat than the police, whereas the police is just a side problem. Makes sense for Stilwater if you ask me.
True there probably should have been a little more police force, story-wise, but maybe that's where Troy comes in? They hardly address him and it's possible he's pulling some strings. I always felt like this was possible.
I mean, its not like they weren't being hunted legally, it just means we never saw it. Really, who the fuck is dumb enough to think they can take down Gat in a 1v10, not even gonna mention 1v1.
But nah, realistically Troy was probably trying to keep that shit under wraps, and somehow managed to get them pardoned for their crimes, we see that Ultor and the gangs could track the gang, its more than likely Troy told the cops to let the Saints wipe out the gangs.
Or, movie plot reason, cops r dumb.
yeah saints row games were always being satirical and never really focusing on realism.Like how tf did playa survive that boat explosion.I mean realisticly nothing could put him back together. You wouldn't end up in a coma for a few years.Your body parts would be all over the ocean and it would be hard to even identify us in that kind of a state.Or how Johnny kills that korean dude in his house and puts him in a body bag than in the trash. So yeah realism isn't the brightest side in sr games
Troy helps to surprise things. It might be financially feasible to try to pursue them. Also don't forget the bigger picture Vogal wants the gangs out there to fight and wipe out each other so that it's easier to take out the last one standing. So he could have encouraged the police force to stand back and let them handle each other.
Hey, I’m not fucking with Johnny 387 murders Gat. Also, isn’t Troy pulling shit to get you out of jail quick enough?
This isn't new in a superhero settings where the criminals would just easily broke out of the jail without any significant manhunt after that. Considering stillwater as corrupt as gotham then I thinks the logical sense here checks out.
Not to mention that troy still have a soft spot for us and gat considering you can call him as your homie in SR2. He probably thinks that one gang is better than three and that one gang was something that he knows personally.
Explanations aside, I feel like there was a huge missed opportunity with SR2’s police mechanics.
Imagine a SR2 where the police actually look for you after the opening and can take you back to jail. You could do activities in jail, make money, and hatch an escape plan. Each time you get out, your respect would go up.
When you accumulate wealth and power in the story, police stop looking for you and will only attack if you’re on a crime spree. When they do respond, they shoot to kill rather than lock you up again.
It's a video game. If you need a reason just say troy let it happen.b
The reason is that these games are not generally meant to make sense.
If you were gonna get hung up on every illogical plot in saints row we'll be here all day
