Summer course are accelerated and only go on for about 4-5 weeks. Most upper division CE classes have 9-12 weeks of lab sessions. These are important classes that you must actually learn for the FE exam and can’t be rushed.
I’m also a CE major and I’ll be graduating this fall at 28, so I understand your frustration about wanting to finish asap. But I wouldn’t want to take any of these upper divisions( let alone multiple) during the summer.
That’s fair. Yeah I totally agree that engineers have a bit tougher coursework that need more time and effort that can’t be rushed. It’s just a sucky feeling lol. I think I might just make up for it by taking an extra course or two per term.
Make sure you keep track of the prerequisites and stuff, they’re strict about the CE 181 prerequisites. A friend of mine has to wait a whole extra semester to graduate just to take CE 181 because they’re missing 1 of the prerequisites which they should’ve taken this semester.
Got it thanks As someone who’s about to graduate, I keep seeing two separate answers. On the SJSU CE Roadmap it says we need to take 2 electives (3 units each) but on the myplanner it says we need to take 4. 2 classes from 2 different areas. Is it just 2 electives or is it 4? Curious because obviously 4 classes would be it’s own semester versus being 2 it can be split up
You’re referring to the CE electives right? I believe you have to pick 3 of those electives and 2 of them have to be design.
There’s also SJSU studies courses, these are upper divisions GE classes that are required, they’re separate from CE electives.
Go to My Progress Report and see what it says there. For me it says complete 2 electives and 1 has to be design so idk if they changed it or what.
You're correct. That's why very few people graduate from cmpe program in 4 years
You can't really double up during a semester either due to prerequisite requirements
Isn’t senior project offered summers?
I think it was offered in 2023 and earlier years but not for summer 2024 and onward

It depends on the major. For my engineering major we have EE 140 offered in the summer. ENGR 100W is a general of engineering course that's offered every summer.
I legit have to stay back a whole semester because they took away the senior project courses for my major in the summer. So now I have to take 4 units on my last semester.
