Found this is a rock and wanted to know if anyone knows what it is
That’s probably not even an inclusion. It’s most likely the shimmer off of the fracture… aka rainbows.
Looks like a phantom, could definitely not be blue though.
A fine answer
Herkimer quartz is double-terminated. This is a typical hexagonal structure evidencing linear growth. Unsure if there is an inclusion or not from this singular picture.
diamonds don't grow in crystals like that. looks like quartz, maybe phantom quartz or with some other kind of inclusion. can you add pictures from different angles? very cool find nonetheless.
Herkimer Diamond ?
Looks like a herkimer diamond which is actually a type of quartz. Did you find it in NY?
That's the most clear looking quartz I've seen. So pretty. And the blue inclusion really makes it.
I'd love to find something like this. Beautiful!
A great shaped quartz crystal, Herkimer has great samples but those are only called that for the location. very nice double terminated ones also. but these can be found in many places in the world, Pennsylvania has lots of double terminated and regular crystals also as do many states and other parts of the world. The fact that you said diamond is the reason Herkimer came up at all, in Ca. we have quartz called Clear lake diamonds. May I ask where you found this?
Albany ny
Hmmm I see, close enough (80 miles) for me to call it a Herkimer diamond, nice
If you bring it to the Herkimer Diamond mine I'm sure they can confirm for you. They have an interesting gift shop. They let people pay to smash rocks and take home whatever "diamonds" they find which is a miserable experience that I do not recommend.
Herkimer Diamonds are quartz. It's a pretty cool piece.
lol I’ve gotta hear the rock crushing story now
It was my 65 year old mom and I. We were super excited to get to crack open our own "diamonds.". They show you a short video and then you take a hammer and chisel and walk down a dirt road to what is basically a quarry. We tried cracking some rocks but, not really knowing which type of rocks to crack, it was hard work with no results. It was also dusty and hot and the whole experience got old fast.
On the plus side, the gift shop is filled with lots of diamonds you can buy!
Haha, love it
I have found lots of those in arizona. Near hydrothermal vents.
You mean volcanic vents? Hydrothermal vents are in the ocean.. Genuinely curious because I just moved to Arizona.
AZ is the best place I have lived for indulging that inner eager rock hound!
I couldn't agree more. https://imgur.com/a/Phpkhho
Look to the old copper mines in Arizona lots of great blues, azurite. Malachite and others in the chrysocolla at those closed mines. You ca dig through tailings and occasionally run into someone actually mining the old places..Great Rock state.
It was underwater when it was a volcano. Now, they are just evidence of the past.
herkimer
It funny to hear this called a Herkimer when this is very available in Pakistan. I have no idea what it is called there but has this double pointed crystal and usually is clear. I'm not sure why this one looks so pretty and from the photo looks blue? Real pretty.
Herkimers come from NY. Pakimer quartz come from Pakistan
Are you making a joke? If so it is funny!
Doesn't look like a rough diamond , idk what it is but not a diamond sorry
Phantom quartz! Fairly rare and super cool!
Octahedron is the structure of diamonds.
Quartz
I collect quartz I would love to have one like that.
Almond
Not a diamond
that shape looks like a herkimer’s diamond, but i’m pretty sure they only form in herkimer, ny right? probably wrong about that last statement
Its just herkimer.
That’s a pretty gem!
Spinel? Cobalt makes the blue
Quartz has a herkimer type shape. The blue could be cookitite, or dumortorite. Guessing on inclusion, blues in quartz are usually one or the other. Depends on locale..Nice Find though no diamond. As stated diamonds have a different shape,structure..Peace..
