There is something happen in my experience of Rocket League that I wanting to name it and see if anybody suffers for this too. Im a platinum 3 player on avarage, hitting diamond 1 every now on then, but the majority of time staying in the plat division. But sometimes sh*t happens in a bad week and I fall down do gold division. Than the nighmare begins.

I have a excruciating hard time to come back do plat. I always got caught with terrible bad teammates, with no sense of the game basics. Scoring own goals, beeing afk, passing the ball to wrong directions leading to other team score, teammates that don't rotate and failing that hail mary aero being the last man back. Always have one teammate with 0-0-0 with 20 points in the end of the match. The feeling I have is that it doesn't matter what I do or how well I play, im stuck with these guys and we all gonna loose over and over again.

This is the overall experience I have im gold tiers. I'm know by heart that i'm not a gold player, but i'm trapped there like a curse and I can't leave in peace.

This also happens in diamond and platinum, it just happens with more speed and intensity.

Everyone is a bronze who just gets enough wins to go up the ladder sometimes.

It's easier to play with Diamonds than Golds or Silvers.

I also noticed a huge downgrade in matchmaking, constantly being placed with the 50-pointers who quit early. Playing with friends to fill out a squad is the only consistent solution I’ve found, and I enjoy the game so much more.

Teammates get better as your rank improves, which is overlooked sometimes I think. I’m peak C3 but I usually sit around high C1/low C2. Whenever I do crash into diamond, it can be hard to adjust to the change in quality of teammates. Having a consistent teammate with comms will always beat solo queueing

This is an exemple of what i'm saying, but in this case, its not happing to me but to the other team. Dizigi90 may be champion 3, but with these teammates, his not going anywhere. A plat tourney champion stuck in gold tier.

As soon as you said “bad teammates” I knew what kinda player you were. That’s your first problem. Fix your attitude and you might rank up.

For what its woth. I myself got caught thinking that the physics of this game is screwed, especially when two players touches the ball at the same time.

A common response to this I hear often is “if you’re truly a higher rank than you believe, then you should be able to carry your teammate” and I hate when people on this sub and streamers say it.

You, for example, “should” be in diamond if you had equal skill teammate, but after a loss streak you end up in gold and get stuck there because AFK players, griefers and smurfs.

But people try to say “well if you’re really diamond, you should carry yourself out of gold”

And I hate that.

If I could carry my teammate who is afk or griefing, or stuck in Smurf lobbies, then I’d be GC, not diamond.

I can’t beat SSL Smurfs. I can’t 1v2 ranked.

Don’t ever say you should be able to carry your teammates out of lower ranks.

The reality is there’s so many smurfers, griefers or AFK teammates that it’s not like 1/10 games. It’s more like 6/10 games are imbalanced for one reason or another; Smurfs, griefers, AFK, ddossers, crappy internet.

I also heard appjack complain about the recent ddoss while he was being ddossed one day. And he actually said to the chat “you guys wouldn’t understand”

Broh… we wouldn’t understand ddossers in lower ranks?! How do you think ddossers got to SSL to even play you? They had to defeat 99 of us and ddoss us lowlie players, before they could even get a chance to grief you.

The pros like Jack are the tip of the pyramid, and down at the foundation, we got screwed 99x more by ddossers because they had to tread on us to reach you.

We absolutely get scammed too.

Do the math; a fresh account (unranked) starts at 600. SSL is maybe +1000 MMR. So if a win gets you 10 MMR on average then the ddossers had to beat 100 low ranked players consecutively to get to SSL level.

We suffer 99x more than streamers do. We had to get stepped on 99x more by ddossers before they could even get to you. And then they just make a new account and do it again. Probably cause they selling those accounts? I dunno. But they keep doing it…

Ddossers don’t have to play 100 matches to get to SSL because of rank uncertainty. RL almost definitely uses something like Glicko RD to allow newer players, or ddossers on fresh accounts, to more quickly equalize to their skill level.

Ah yes, so they have to win slightly fewer than 100. You totally got me there.

The analogy still stands; they have to grind through lower ranks first. Whether that’s 1,000, 100 or 50. It’s still a lot.

There are absolutely not smurfs, ddoses, or afk tm8s in 6/10 games. I solo queue only, and I’d say maybe 1 in 20 games I see a Smurf. I’ve been ddosed exactly one time in a couple thousand hours of play, and for every afk teammate I’ve had, I’ve played against an afk opponent.

The Smurf accusation gets thrown around a lot I think because a lot of people can get to the same ranks with vastly different skill sets. Sure, someone can get to champ with incredible air dribbling, but be ass at almost every other aspect of their play, and be called a Smurf by another champ with decent fundamentals but no mechanics, because they equate flip reset = Smurf. In reality, the accuser just doesn’t know how to defend against certain playstyles, and when they get dominated by them, they cry smurf, because how else could someone in their own rank own them so hard?

There are tons of examples why you’re playing against someone who is a mismatch for your style. My playstyle is fast. Like, really really fast. I didn’t play ranked for a couple seasons, because I wanted to focus on training in casual where I could flail around without ruining others’ games. I last played ranked at the plat/diamond area, and I’m like top 1% in casual. I get called smurf all the time when I go to ranked now, multiple times a day. Am I a Smurf? No. I’m just faster than everyone on the pitch at my current rank, and I will be until I grind up to wherever I land. There are thousands and thousands of people like me, too, and none of them are smurfs either.

Legitimate smurfs aren’t super common. They exist, but it’s not rampant like you would have people believe. Again, there are more reasons than you’re accounting for, why you’re losing against someone who seems much better than you. Could be mismatched styles. Could be someone who practiced a bunch and just started grinding ranked. Could be a solo queuer from just a few ranks ahead of you that is recovering from a slump.

Yeah, I’d say maybe 1 in 20 games. Honestly maybe even 1 in 30.
