The are rivian vehicles all over Toronto already so it's not like they're starting they've already been delivered

It has to be due to the artificial pump of meme stocks in the past few days
Many American EV tickers popped yesterday when news broke that the US officially announced a 100% tariff on Chinese EVs. LCID is similarly down from yesterday's pump.
i just saw a YangWang U8 review by forest - blew my mind if I’m honest 600 miles EV. it has a motor but for the sole purpose of charging the EV - so is it pure EV i don’t know, but also, i don’t care.
i’ve reserved a R2 and I’m loyal to Rivian but damn.
These are called EREV, extended range. Li Auto does something similar but is aimed more at family.

Cause the company fundamentally hasn’t changed from earnings, the stock is volatile, just as it went up from 8 to 12, it can easily go from 12 to 9.
There was no news out of Google IO. They were just there because it runs Android automotive (the Rivian OS is just skinned android) just like many other automakers. The rises previously was probably just short profit taking combined with the china tariff news.
I do not think this is true. Rivian has its own software system.
It was reported a while back that R1s run android, whether it's the opens source version or the Google sanctioned android automotive variant I'm not sure, but it's definitely android under the hood. I've seen reddit threads where people have discovered it reporting itself as android auto on wifi networks and such from early on. Possible they are switching to the officially sanctioned one and adding Google services, but either way I don't think the Google I/O stuff was any major news or we would have heard about it already.
Your kind of right. Rivian bases their own software on Android which is based off of Linux. Basically Rivian runs off the framework of android automotive but most of the actual software is by them, they just use android as a starting point.
It’s built on a modified version of Android though, I think. Like how Steam OS is a modified version of Linux.

Tesla uses an in house Linux distribution so they’d have to build it all themselves. Rivian is getting a lot of this from Google “magically” via the Android automotive OS. They just have to customize the experience.

I'm curious to know if running Android would be an issue for running Apple CarPlay. Not that I want that dumpster fire in my R1S.
It is not an issue. CarPlay is akin to Android Auto, not to be mistaken for Android Automotive.
That's not what I'm saying. People want CarPlay in our Rivians, but it runs on Android. Apple's CarPlay (2.0) is very invasive and I'd be surprised if it works on an Android Automotive platform.
