I purchased a $100 gift card when the offer first went live a few weeks ago. Anyone else waiting on their $20 reward? Do you guys know what the subject email will be?

So I have Sahara path pants with the drawstring (not the convertible ones) and I love them! They are unavailable from REI online and would love to hear recommendations. I am a bit short with a 32 Length.

I notice this a lot when browsing on the website, pure curiosity but does anyone have an idea as to why? Outlet usually implies its discontinued or no longer going to be stocked.

Does REI ship to PO Boxes? I live out out of town and don’t receive mail at my house.

Today was my favorite kind of day as a Greenvest working at REI. It had it all.

It started with a young woman who needed help with a rain coat who was hiking the PNW… She needed a sleep system as well. We spent close to 30 minutes talking about what her experience was with her current gear and how she might make changes in philosophy of what to carry. She bought the rain coat and then I gave her some homework on sleep systems. Her mom was so impressed that she too, bought a few items including a liner for her daughter…

The next customer came in to compare coolers from a few other companies and we talked through the pros and cons of YETI and he ordered a color with did not have in store. He was convinced he wanted some brand that he had seen somewhere else, but his wife kept saying, you need to buy from here… They both kept asking me why I did not get commission and tried to tip me on their way out the door.

There were a bunch of pack fits and regular “point in the direction of”, mixed in with some front line where I was having a miserable day for member conversion… I was 2-4 Before lunch.

We had a meeting with the SM about how the store was running… I know he gave some sort of term for these quarterly meetings, but the conversation was excellent and we all got to air out some frustrations with the new SOP in each department.

Then the day got juicy… Sold a few bikes, then started on a family of 6 going to the Grand Canyon. They needed everything and price was no object. They had a list, but we kept going through that list and talking about the wisdom of some of it. Given how they had structured their trip we eliminated about half, but added a lot more. I think they spent over 4k and a lot of it was because they trusted us and listened to our advice… Part way through, I had to break off to help in other parts of the store and I sold two boats and two Dometic coolers…

I ended the day 5-7 at the register for the member sales, that was not counting the other new members who signed up because of me… I turned down numerous tips, I stopped counting handshakes at a dozen. I was so busy, that I barely helped with the truck…

We love our customers… two or three of my regulars stop in a day to just say hi or to show me pictures or tell me how the things I helped them with went… One of my new favorites picked up a boat order while I was ringing someone up. He and his woman had been in a few weeks prior and I ordered it for them. He waited around to thank me… I can’t wait to hear about their adventures.

Sure there were a few strange encounters today, but the wins totally outweighed the weird.

If you are a customer… thank you… if you are a fellow Greenvest… I hope you have one of these days the next time you work.

Looking for a sleep option for warmer temps 65°+ humid nights (camp blanket vs sleeping bag liner)

Which would you choose? I'm a hot sleeper but like to have some cover... I'll be on an exped megamat in car and tent camping.

Also is the kelty bestie as good as the rumpl stuff? I live far away from REI so I can't test them . But the price difference is woah!. Thanks for the help!

There are three backpacks I'm looking at on the REI Outlet. None of them are available in store or through other local retailers. So the only way I'm going to be able to figure out whether they work for me is to order them. But I wasn't sure if that was bad form or not since they'll end up taking a loss on the two I return.

Though I don't plan on using them at all before returning them other than making sure everything fits. So maybe they can just put them out again at full price or return them to....wherever outlet items live?

I'm thinking about getting the REI MasterCard to earn the bonus on a new Garmin watch. Does REI ever run signup promotions? Should I wait for one of those promotions or just go ahead and sign up?

I have two co-op bikes (gen 1.1 and 1.) that I bought from REI. I'm looking for bike racks so I can take them on my car. I have a Subaru outback SUV. Does anyone have any recs? Thank you.

I’m a full time employee, have been for well over 12 months, and am filing for short term disability to deal with a mental health crisis. Has anyone gone through this process and can give advice on how to get it approved so it can be a paid leave? I’m seeing doctors and specialists and have a letter from my long term therapist. I don’t have the option to go back at this moment but cannot afford an unpaid leave. Please let me know! ❤️

Hi /REI, new to REI and excited to become a repeat customer, the place is awesome.

There are currently two offers I'm looking at to maximize some value here, as I have my eyes on a backpack at my local store.

One promotion is buy $100 worth of gift cards and get a bonus $20 card. Looks like that's only for members (which I am currently not).

The second promotion is get $30 back when you spend $50 as a new member.

So my plan is - I buy the $100 gift card, get the $20 bonus card. In the same transaction, I become a member, then use those cards (paying the difference with CC) to buy the backpack, which satisfies the $50 minimum for the $30 bonus, then when I get the $30 bonus card, return the backpack, purchase it again, and now I can use essentially $150 in gift cards towards the second bag.

It's definitely playing the system so it's not big deal if it doesn't work, just want to know I'm on the right track.

Edit: Jesus, you guys would think I was defrauding the company for millions of dollars by these responses. AT BEST, I'm coming out ahead $20 of where I would already be. I've been on the fence about doing the membership and this just kind of lined up as the push I needed to get into it. That said, I have decided to not take this path, or at least not the return/rebuy part. I'll save the second bonus card for a future purchase, of which there will be many.

Consumer Product Safety Commission Recall Notice

This recall is for REI Co-op Cycles REV 12, 16, and 20-inch kid’s bicycles. The training wheel attachment can, and will, fail. They switched the design in 2022 so that the training wheel assembly threads into the aluminum frame instead of using a through bolt and nut. My sources indicate that the new style of training wheels routinely failed because as soon as they were a little loose, the frame threads would fail and the training wheel assembly would fall off. It was a very poor design that had predictable results and many consumers returned the bikes.

The remedy is to return the bike to REI and they will install a through bolt, locking washer, and locknut to secure the assembly properly. If you purchase a new kid's bike, be sure the training wheels are attached with a through bolt and locking nut instead of the old style, which has a hand knob to tighten a bolt into the frame threads. REI stores are supposed to stop sale on the old style while they retrofit old stock.

Back during the big sale in March, I used my 20% off for a backpacking stove. Now the auto-igniter is already kaput. Assuming it's in stock at my store, can I just go in and exchange, or do I need to arrange it in advance or anything? Thanks!

I read on my commute and have been really loving the right-sided vertical zip on the Patagonia Black Hole 25L--you can toss your book in so quickly during transfers. A bit too sporty for my office and a bit too big for me though (I only have about 9L stuff at most).

Can anyone think of a slim office daypack with a quick access vertical zip to stash a book (like Cotopaxi Batac 16 Alpaka Metro)?

Core features:

• Has right-side quick access vertical zip to stash a book, like Alpaka Metro, Recycled Firefighter, Greenroom136 Northseeker (Right-sided because I carry on R shoulder, otherwise Evergoods CPL16!)
• Office vibes (Aer, Alpaka, Timbuk2, Nomatic, Bellroy, Troubadour)

Nice to have:

I’d prefer the US Bank one give you get 5% at all sporting goods but I’d like to get 5% back immediately as I’m looking to get a new Yeti lol.

VENT

I ordered a two knives that were on sale. The email confirming my order had the same picture as the website. The shipping notification had the same picture. And, the delivery notification had the same picture. I open the box and they are obviously different items. I go back to the website and the picture has been switched to the knives I received.

I called REI, explained the issue, and forwarded the email with the original item shown. I was assured the issue would be fixed. But, now they've gone radio silent.

I've really about had it with REI. A previous order was missing a headlamp despite the packing slip showing it was there. And an order before that was a radio that was obviously damaged when it was packed.

Hi, I am looking at a bike that is on sale currently. I’m a REI member and have a REI credit card. As I read it on the website, I get 10% back from the purchase from being a member, and 5% back from the purchase being done by the credit card. Does that mean 15% back total in REI dividend?
