These are some ability effect animations I've made for a game my friends and I are trying to get going.
In order, it's a dash ability for the druid where he transforms into a bird. A Water Shield which protects against damage. An entangle aoe. And lastly a small firecracker ability for the rogue.
We're trying to make a coop dungeon crawler game where one player also plays as the main villain and enemies. We'd first have to figure out how to make it work either local or online coop, but luckily I'm the artist so I don't have to break my head over that issue. :)

Edit: Y'all are making a good point that what was meant to be a red sash on the rogue character looks like... something else. I swear I did not notice it beforehand. I will have to fix this.
Wow I was gonna say your art style looks a lot like “Crawl”. And then you’re telling me it has (at least some) same gameplay? Is this a coincidence?
Definitely inspired by Crawl yes. Fantastic game! We do hope to give our own spin to the idea.
Cool idea I’m looking forward to it! Did you get any inspiration animation-wise? I really like that art style and am a sprite artist myself. I find it quite hard to create something so simple and make it still visually clear.
Inspirations are always Crawl of course, but also Wizard of Legend and Kingdom Two Crowns. Besides that, I am also always sifting through pinterest
I loved WoL and oh yeah you’re right kingdom also rocks this “faceless, lengthy” style. I can also imagine it’s a relief for the animator that these characters have so small arms and legs. Are those only 1 pixel wide as it looks like? And how do you scale them properly? If I am creating a small character like those they always end up too small in game. But I guess that’s something the programmer can deal with xD
I’m curious now- What’s your plan for the spin?
Also is this your teams first project? A multiplayer dungeon crawler like Crawl is pretty ambitious. But your teams got a great animator :)
Thanks
We're still very early in concepting and all the rest as well, but we'd want a villain player who is decided at the start and stays that way while the others make up an adventuring party together
The finer details with levelling up and how the villain affects the environment, et cetera remains to be fleshed out.
It's not our first, but we just have these projects for fun, so there's no pressure to release anything. Same thing goes for this one
Cool! Good luck to yall
