Hah. I just went through a prlea and graduated last month. The job announcements don't mention PRLEA at all. Lol. Kind of disheartening.
It's not going to because it's no longer a requirement to be a Type 2 to be considered for positions. However, you are still ahead of the curve in some ways because you can gain experience and connections through your seasonal time.
Don't be discouraged. You will gain experience that relates to the job and can craft your resume to be competitive.
Keep the faith.
Just applied! Hoping the above 30% VA rating helps.
How helpful is a hiring authority during announcements like this?
Depends on how you rank on the assessments.
The way it was explained to me a two years ago was that if you score high on the assessments as a civilian with no hiring authority you are put onto one list that the max score is say 90.
That same list will have you competing with veterans and some with a preference score, so they can score an 81, but they get 10 points of preference, so they can score a 91. Civilians can only score to a 90 while others can score more with those points.
I actually have no idea how true that is, but it was explained to me by a hiring manager 2 years ago when I started applying for these positions.
I had zero hiring authority and made it, so it's possible (I believe that's why we have two announcements)
Other hiring authorities are able to put you into a non-competitive pool of applicants as well, so you make the list easier because you're not competing as much as long as you don't bomb the assessments.
That's my very dumb downed version of anecdotal experience with hiring and the process. I am no expert in it, and it could be inaccurate to some degree.
That makes a lot of sense! Im an army officer vet, criminal justice major with volunteer mountain rescue experience, so I figured I had a decent resume but I didn’t know how these vet points worked or like non-competes. USAjobs is wack sometimes
The first step is having a good resume to qualify. Some people sell themselves short or use super long run sentences, and hiring managers dislike that.
Listing is what works best I have found, and not letting even the smallest thing go undocumented.
Then, the assessments you need to take your time on and just power through them. People just guess on them and tank their scores.
After that, you're at the mercy of your interviewing and personal skills.
As a hiring manager, you can usually cut through the BS when you look at the resume at that first glance if you have been in the job for awhile.
Does anyone know what the vision standard is? Was turned down by CPB several years ago for not meeting the rigorous standard, don't want to waste my time again.
