I've done 10yrs teaching in public schools, near 120 payments. If I go on paid sabbatical next year, will it mess everything up?

I'm OK with the fact that my payments won't count during sabbatical, I'm just worried that my 10 years of employment will be reset or some crazy PSLF caveat.

It's real.Success/Celebration

After the balance was zero on studenloan.gov, I disputed the debt at all three credit bureaus. All excepted it. I am still in shock a little over the whole thing. May anyone struggling please keep hope and don't give up! Bless you all.

Can I quit my job and return to PSLF when I find a new job?

Long story short I’m miserable in my job. I just had a baby and I think my boss is retaliating for my maternity leave. At the same time I’m having a hard time with finding consistent immediate childcare after my daycare secured fell through. It’s a mess. I’m 3 months post partum and really struggling.

I want to quit my job and give myself the headspace to be a mom and apply to work without this job stressing me out. I want to return to the workforce asap but I just can’t do it all right now.

I’m probably 7-8 years into PSLF. I can’t wait it out. I need some time off. Am I giving up all my previous payments towards PSLF ?

Transition from MOHELA to Dept. of Ed. MOHELA - Issues with Administrative Forbearance and Missed PaymentAdvice

Hi everyone,

I recently went through the transition from MOHELA to the Department of Education MOHELA. Since the transition, I’ve encountered a couple of confusing issues and was hoping to see if anyone else has experienced the same.

First, I noticed that my account has been placed on an administrative forbearance. I’m not sure why this happened, as I didn’t request it and my payments were all up-to-date prior to the transition.

Second, I received an email stating that I might have missed a payment. This is particularly confusing because all my payments have been on automatic draft, and I haven’t had any issues with missed payments before.

Has anyone else experienced similar issues after the transition? If so, how did you resolve them? Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!

I plan on calling as soon as they are open but per the usual it seems we need to know more than they do to get questions answered.

Thanks in advance for your help!

HELP!!!! consolidation and SAVE applications still being under reviewed after months (MOHELA and studentaid.gov)

Hi all, I'm in desperate need of advice on what to do. Thank you for your help!

I applied for a consolidation along with SAVE at the end of March on student aid.gov Because I will not graduate till May at that time, only some of my loans were consolidated. I already expected this and planned to request to add the rest of my loans to the current consolidation later. The consolidated loans are now under MOHELA and the non-consolidated ones are still under Aidvantage.

Fast forward to mid May, both my consolidation app and SAVE app still show "under review" on student aid.gov. My enrollment status still shows that I'm current enrolled in school. - I contacted my school and was told that they already submitted the change. *****is this the reason why my left over loans are still NOT being consolidated yet AND preventing me from entering the SAVE plan? Do I just have to wait for this update to be reflected? What do I do now?

  • I called MOHELA several times and they advised me to be on Forbearance to buy time for the SAVE plan to be approved. MOHELA dashboard shows that I'm in Forberance which will end in 42 days. BUT I just got a document that I have a payment due under standard plan on 6/18/24 which is obviously not in 42 days. **which is the correct information? Due in 42 days or on 6/18? **what can I do regarding changing to SAVE plan??? Is it all related to that SAVE plan being "under review" still on student aid.gov?
EdFinancial

So I am now enrolled in EdFinancial as my student loan provider. But I've been in PSLF for 7 years now and it doesn't say anything about it. It just says "If you qualify, contact the dept of Ed". Has anyone else been sent to Ed Financial?

Completed 120 payments now I owe $110k?

MOHELA confirmed I completed 120 qualifying payments and put me on admin forbearance. I submitted application for official forgiveness right before the pause. Now my new MOHELA/Ed account sends me a notice that my payments resume in June and I owe $110k.

I've seen a number of other stories in this sub with weird account errors and glitches, but none that are quite the same as mine.

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? Can anyone offer any words of advice or support?

I'm getting ready to sell all my assets, assume a new identity and flee to a beach in Asia. Only slightly sarcastic. Holy shit are the people who run these programs incompetent.

Thanks

New Mohela, how do I check my qualifying Payments?

I can't seem to figure out how to check my qualifying payments on the new Mohela site, can anyone direct me to the right place? I've been looking all over and I can't seem to find it as easily as I did on the old website. Thank you!

Going back to school?Advice

Currently a few years into PSLF. If I go back to school full-time while working, will my loans get deferred for being in school and those months I'm enrolled won't go towards PSLF?

Thanks in advance.

Forbearance messed up or wtf?

Anybody in my boat ? Before transitioning, Mohela set up my forbearance 11/24/24. I am 199/120 payments. Now I am transitioned (took 16 days for transfer) and Mohela new website where I'm in now, says my payment is due in 15 day and forbearance ends 6/17/24... what the freak stress for me! I will be calling them tomorrow but anybody similar?

I think I could benefit from consolidation but won't graduate until August .. is hope lost?

I have undergraduate direct loans and I worked in PSLF qualifying jobs for four years and made payments that I believe could qualify towards PSLF. Though I haven't yet had those payments verified by an employer.

This past year I took out graduate direct loans, including a direct PLUS loan for this summer term that is processing now and I should graduate in August from a graduate program. It's a long story, but I'm also planning to start a second Masters in the fall and plan to take out more graduate direct loans.

Is it true that my four years of public service work payments on my undergraduate loans can count towards qualifying payments my graduate direct loans? Or is that only if I consolidate before the deadline?

Do I need to graduate before I consolidate loans?

Can I consolidate more than once? Like If I take out more loans next year might I be able to consolidate again in the future to have the higher count of payments qualifying for PSLF?

Is there anyone I can talk to about this? I'm confused and don't want to miss out on earlier PSLF if possible. Like should I call my loan provider?

Y'all are amazing. This stuff is like...so confusing.

MOHELA Increasing Payment?Advice

I recently had my loans switched to MOHELA to participate in the PSLF program. Originally, I was in an IDR plan and anticipated my loan payment amount would stay the same. I just got an email saying my repayment plan has changed and within the next 12 months, my monthly payment will almost triple??? I am not too sure why I am suddenly expected to pay this new amount in 12 months. I am planning on calling them this week for a better explanation but has this happened to anyone else?

Below is the chart that was referenced in the email they sent me:

Repayment Plan: INCOME-DRIVEN (IDR)

Number of PaymentsPayment AmountPayment Start Date
12$143.296/11/2024
120$417.206/11/2025
Questions…

I might be out of the loop a bit but had a few q questions. I’m at 82 payments and just trying to figure out the next steps.

1.) my account was transferred to financial, I created a log in. I read previously that mohela was still going to be the ones collecting payments, but now it looks like I pay on ed financial and they are displaying my next due payment in June and mohela just shows zero.

2.) does the mohela site even have a function in this anymore or is it just a shell of a site? Any reason to even log into it anymore?

3.) I know that we can no longer see the payment counts on mohela and as much of a dumpster fire mohela has been, is there a plan to be able to see something on Edfiancial or studentaid.gov? I can see the number of payments I have at students.gov but it’s kinda buried, needing to go into your loans, and look at the bottom to see the number you’re at. I did appreciate mohela showing the payment count and “qualifying” or “waiting for certification” and those showing up monthly (sad but it kept me going)

4.) any idea where we will certify on studentaid.gov? Will more be available after July?

Thanks for the help! Appreciate this community!

PSLF payments not showing on new Mohela Platform

Hello, i'll be making my 120th PSLF payment today. I don't see my previous payments anywhere on this new site. On the old site it showed exactly how many payments i had made that qualified for PSLF. Help!!!

Extra payments

Longtime lurker -

  1. Would it be at all beneficial to pay a few grand (eg. tax return, holiday bonus money) in addition to the monthly 120 total payments?

  2. Do we still have to do recertification every year with income driven repayment plans even if we're under PSLF now?

Transfer question.Advice

I searched and don’t see an answer to this.

On Mohela, my loans are zeroed out and I got “the smiley face.”

Studentaid.gov says my loans were last updated on 05/03 but still showing a balance. I am in the process of transferring and can’t set up a new account yet.

Just curious if this is like consolidating. One will say you’re done but actually the balance just hasn’t transferred yet.

Anyone else with this?

Mohela Transfer to EdFinancial -- Can I make my account yet?

Hi! Mohela sent a message saying I'm transferring to EdFinancial. I'm struggling to make an account with EdFinancial. Am I supposed to wait for a message from EdFinancial to make an account with them or am I supposed to do it ASAP?

Discharge alert has been removed

I had one loan of two discharged in April. I logged in today to see if the remaining loan had been discharged… big surprise it hasn’t. But I noticed the alert that my “federal student loan(s) have been discharged” from my one forgiven loan is missing. Anyone in same boat and any idea if it means anything?

ETA: brief search shows this happened last month and the alerts eventually reappeared. Wondering if that will happen again or something else.

Edit 2: nvm it’s back

Transitioned to new platform, but also submitted for consolidation Advice

Long shot, but maybe someone has the answer.

I have a payment due 6/10/24, but I submitted for loan consolidation 5/19/24 and it’s still under review. Do I pay this due amount, or should I wait for the consolidation?

No eligible PSLF months on student loans but employer might turn into a 501c3 soon - should I consolidate?

I have approx $16k loans across direct subsidized and direct subsidized. My current employer of 3 years isn’t a 501c3 but is likely to become one (half of it already is, but I sit on the LLC half of the organization).

Without any current eligible months qualifying me for PSLF, would there be any reason to consolidate?

Change in Payment Schedule Notice Advice

Hi everyone!

I am under the PSLF through Mohela - just started having about 7 payments in towards the count.

I am also under the SAVE plan.

Recently got notice that my account got shifted to the feds and can be accessed through StudentAid.gov.

I set up my new account and was unable to see my PSLF count. Figured it was due to the transition and would be seen later.

Just today I got a letter which was alarming. It states a new repayment schedule has been set up (which I understand)

however what scares me is the transition to an IDR with associated payments?

I thought under the SAVE plan there is no interest penalty as long as you are enrolled and making payments?

Why the automatic switch to IDR? where is this interest payable coming from?

Why was this done without notice?

Is this due to the transition? Can I contact someone because 3 months of interest due to this “transition” will add up!!!

Direct Grad and Grad Plus Loans

Hi all. This might be a dumb question, I’m new to PSLF. I have 14 federal total loans (6 Unsub Grad, and 8 Plus). Do I need to consolidate these into 1 total loan for PSLF? Or do all 14 count for the 120 payments.

Where do you find your IDR plan recertification deadline on EdFinancial

Just was transitioned over to EdFinancial. Can't seem to find where the IDR plan income recertification deadline is like I could previously on Mohela. There seems to be very minimal details/information on this website.

Unsure of what to do

So my loans were with MOHELA. I went on the website 5/12 and took a screenshot saying my recertification date was in 2025.

My loans are moving to a new servicer. I cannot see anything about my loans on MOHELA. New servicer doesn’t have my info yet.

On studentaid.gov it shows I need to recertify by 8/2024. I start a chat and show them the screenshot. They said they don’t know why it says 2025 on MOHELA’s website but it’s not that in their system although I should “go with what they say but I could have a new recertification date when my loans fully transfer”

Do I recertify now? Im worried if I don’t, the new servicer will say I needed to do it by 8/2024 and I’ll be screwed with a big bill.

Send help.

New to this all

Hello guys, I have a few questions that are probably dumb. I’m a recent graduate trying to understand PSLF:

1.) If I change employment throughout the 10 year payment period (to another qualifying employer), am I still on track for forgiveness? Or does this alter the timeline.

2.) What happens to my monthly payments if something goes wrong and the loans aren’t forgiven after 10 years? Will it stay the same as what I had been paying before?

:) thank you!
