Anyone know if it's allowed/if there is spots. I found some pullouts along Wyeth Rd but maybe also trailheads like Wind Mt.? Not sure what ranger station to call either as Mt. Hood Forwst Districts don't go into the Gorge. Not looking for views, just somewhere to set up my tent and sleep for the night while I do day hikes in the Gorge. Thanks! Looking to just pull off the road and be next to my car
Thanks lol. I already have a week planned in Hood for overnight hikes though
Just sayin'. The boat has sailed on any kind of parking where you won't get run off by cops or harassed by the locals.
It's not that far from the gorge to the national forests. Just head there to sleep, and there are good hikes back there too. Make day-trips to the gorge.
Do you want something right off the road or do you mind hiking in a bit? You could look at camping off of the PCT north or south of Bridge of the Gods. The first established site on the WA side is about 3 miles in.
I was looking more to right off the road but will definitely keep this considered!
Check out spots along the Kickitat, easy free car camping
Thanks! Honestly you just made me think that maybe I can just do backpacking in the Klickitat instead of doing multiple day hikes over a couple days lol
Np! I’d say gorge hikes still worthwhile- tons of waterfalls to explore, but not a lot of free camping until you get further east in the gorge. Dog mountain, Hamilton mtn good too
It’s not free but I used maryhill state park as a base for some day hikes in the gorge area. Booked an Rv site and slept in the back of my vehicle. There is peach beach rv and Memaloose state park as well.
I was trying to not pay but am considering the campgrounds in the area as well!
Quincy Lakes
That's not what I meant by the Gorge😂
There’s a town and area also called “Gorge” in Washington. There’s a big concert venue there. Probably the source of confusion.
The town is Quincy or George. There is no town called Gorge.
Yea, I didn't think of that when I posted but I realized now. I have heard of the concert venue lol
Yep I 100% thought they were trying to camp after a show and was confused by others' recommendations at first 😂
Ancient lakes trailhead parking lot!
Dispersed Camping is allowed in Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Ask a Ranger Station for guidance and directions. There are options north of Carson around Panther Creek Campground, and north of Cook around Moss Creek Campground. Either is only maybe a 10-15 min drive from the river.
No. You will be harassed anywhere in the Gorge. My Hood national forest or Gifford Pinchot are your nearest options.
