Look who got eye surgery!
Certified 🟠range™TIL! Thank you for helping me understand.
Also, it's an orange button to boot! 🥺💓
Matching color for the win
✨aesthetic✨
He can still be fashionable!
I've seen them used on ears when cats and dogs get hematomas that need to be drained.
Seen button suture use to stabilize cat broken jaw in the news once
Toby had a hematoma. You can see his bad left ear.
not the cyclops cat :33943:
Terrifying photo but very neat thank u
You’re welcome
Looks like a floppy ear

This photo is blursed. I love it.
Bro left his high beams on
It's like how those car headlights get brighter these days, but cats.
What’s a hematoma? I don’t want to look it up in fear of seeing disturbing images.
Very simply, a bruise with blood in it. Can be painful if not drained
I was hoping for buttons when my dog had a hematoma operation but they used some kind of cut up tubing.
I actually had one of these on my finger after a surgery!
I had an injury to my pinky where the tendon was severed and they had to go in and reattach it. The way they closed that specific surgery was going through the bottom of my fingernail, and they stitched it up with a button that was secured on top of my nail.
So it’s used in both human and animal surgeries.
Can I ask how long do the button stay? And how does it feel having stitch with button on the finger?
I honestly can’t remember how long it was on; I had the surgery almost fifteen years ago, now.
I remember it wasn’t uncomfortable for me. There was a dressing I usually wore on top of the button, but toward the end I stopped wearing it much.
I did get a mjnor infection toward the end that they fixed by removing the nail when the button came off (probably because the dressing came off and I didn’t properly replace it), but the button wasn’t painful or uncomfortable at all.
It kind of felt like having acrylic nails on, maybe? Like, I could feel something attached to my nail but it didn’t cause me any discomfort.
Same. I got my pinky mangled and the skin was massively messed up. Looked like hamburger and so the skin that was sutured was very delicate so I got a surgical button.
Is this where the idea came for Coraline, you think?
I was literally just showing this to my mom and she asked the same question. Personally though I don’t think so because it’s real common to put buttons as eyes on stuffed animals!
Ahh that makes sense, too. Since Coraline and her family are pretty much nothing more than a toy to the other mother anyway!
Thank you! I knew the button served a genuine purpose and I wanted to know.
A human friend of mine had one on her fingertip after tendon surgery. To keep the tendon from snapping back like an elastic.
Thank you for the explanation! I was wondering what in the Coraline was happening to this poor cat!
That's obviously the new replacement eye. /s 12/10 cute as a button
The same technique is used in jaw repair. The hospital I work at has a cat who is basically a sponsored clinic cat (the owner is in assisted living but has the means to finance the cat's boarding at our hospital indefinitely and has chosen to do that instead of rehoming him. He visits when he can get a ride) and he was originally admitted for jaw surgery and has buttons
That's adorable. The hospital gets a clinic cat and the owner can visit, win-win!
That’s really cool. So it’s cute and helps a pirate kitty heal ♥️
Oh i dont get mad, i just cant hardly believe it. First time I saw it was on a pug. Just. Like. Its stupid but it works, and its honestly morbidly kinda cute...
When I was little, my skull got cracked, and my suture was in the shape of a little yarn doll.
This is so interesting to me. I was a vet tech for 10 years and have never seen a button be used. But it makes sense. Idk, I guess it depends on the vet
Thank you for educating us! I've always wondered what they meant by surgical button. I wonder now if my little one had one since she has one eye. (Adopted her like that)
I had no idea! Thank you for adding this info. I thought OP put a sticker over his eye. That’s actually pretty amazing.
Thx, came exactly to ask for that
Fascinating, hadn’t heard of/seen these before
That's very interesting, I'm glad it's not just for the lols so I can find it silly and cute without guilt lmao!
I had no idea this existed! Cool!
Thanks for the info!
This is the comment I was looking for. I thought there might be a medical reason for it considering how delicate the skin in the eye region can be, but I am not a vet, so i was glad to learn something new today. Thank you.
Cute, practical and fucked up looking. Love it
It's cute and functional! How great.
I saw this guy at a cat sanctuary and always wondered about the button bc I’d never seen one before
That one looks like someone just grabbed it out of grandma’s sewing tin.
I want to swap it for a googly eye
Disclaimer: I'm a terrible person.
No no, you got a point
Let them cook lmao
Saw this on a sign in Stanley Park in Vancouver yesterday & it made my day
Dipping a toe into steampunk
Well that one is clearly to make her look cool and mysterious, like a wise old forest witch.
What a handsome fella :)
He is a pirate!
Aww he’s so beautiful.
He looks like he’s about to give me a quest
R/piratekitties
I just got the best fuzzies from catching how my brain read this as "Arrr Pirate Kitties"
Wait that's so good
damn it! you are not helping my obsession! angrily subscribes
Years ago we rescued a cat from a local nonprofit we volunteer at (the cat had been with a family that got moved to subsidized housing that did not allow for pets). She was a nasty, mean girl when we first got her. About a week in though, we noticed her right pupil was diamond shaped. Turns out she was angry because she had a huge tumor in there. It wasn't cheap, but Moony became "the ol' One Eyed Moon", and had a much more loving and happy life afterward. I just wanted to reassure everyone, the cat will definitely be FAR happier, and honestly not really care about the eye once it's healed.
Cats so rarely show they hurting in a way we understand. My guy Carl was lying on top of me one day and I caught his breath it smelled like rotten death. Took him to two vets who said stomatitis and he would need his teeth pulled. I fretted so much about the quality of life after getting his teeth pulled but it was such a waste because he was sooooo much happier and outgoing after he recovered. It was clearly hurting him and we just didn't know. He was like a different cat, it was crazy and I'm glad it worked for him.
We had the same with my Skitty! She was always a grumpy cat who would swipe at your ankles if you walked by too close. After she got her teeth taken out she lived another 10 years as a super friendly kitty who would purr when I walked into the room :) still no touching beyond the head & ears but she was much happier. I'm happy your Carl got to have that second lease on life too!!
My boy always had stinky breath, but it wasn't until I noticed his eye was watering that I realized he had an infection in his gum so bad the tooth behind his upper canine was barely visible from the swelling. 11 teeth pulled, including his canine and other than his perma-sneer, he was fine, even continuing to eat dry kibble until the last couple of years of his life. Made it to almost 19 even with the heart murmur and compensating kidneys!

What game, Undertale?
Deltarune
Deltarune is an anagram of Undertale.
Ty, haven't played it yet.
This is Cotton Eye Joe‘s brother Button Eye Moe
Edit: Pun missed.. Button Eye Meow
Please tell me their name is Button
Or Coraline!
Underrated comment.
Or Odin
Legit thought the vet did this to make the surgical site look like he’s still got an eye. The meme where someone putting a googly eye where his cat had lost an eye to give him confidence is why I came up with this crazy logic. I was also possibly an orange cat in a past life.
Right? Put a stuffed animal eye on the cat
I was also possibly an orange cat in a past life.
I think its a stage in evolution we all go through, I believe they come right after we wrap up evolving through the single-celled organisms before we move onto the multi-celled/no brain cells one seen here.
I sense strong Coraline vibes here XD
Other mother is still at it huh?
Yeah but not very well since she only got 1 eye
That cat always was a step ahead of her.
Our eyes will be on Coraline 🎵
The Other Orange.
The attention to detail here is great. The vet pulled out his collection of buttons and went straight for the orange one. +1 Cool points for the vet
What kind of surgery was it? Did they have to have their eye removed? Poor baby.
I hope they heal quickly!
Does not look like enucleation (removal of the eye) as the lids were not sewn together to prevent opening (so dirt and such can't get in).
I am curious what procedure it was though, as I have not seen the button method used before. My clinic usually uses Stent tubing to do what folks have described this method being used for, but I don't know of a reason for doing that on the eyelid. Might ask our DVM about it on monday...
As a former people eye nurse, we used to use the tubing from butterfly needles to achieve the same goal.
When we sewed an eye shut it would be to give a bad corneal ulcer time to heal.
Being that we looked after people and not cats, we didn’t sew shut eyes after enucleation, we put implants and conformers in to allow for the use of a prosthetic after healing.
Fascinating about the button. Thank you for the info, and I hope kitty heals quickly!
Poor baby! And it looks like it's already missing a leg before that.
Yes he is! He was born without a tail too.
Awwwww.
How comes the vet isn’t worried about the cat pulling it off? Does it not give the cat something to hook onto if they had an itchy eye or something? Just curious as I’ve never seen them before
Apparently the buttons stay on quite well and the cats are pretty good at keeping them on.
Is him eye ok? Or lost ?
The vet just put the button there to keep his eyelid in place while his eye heals.
This guy?!
Btw before all that eye gunk n debris builds up and then rips the skin/,irritates poor kitty or becomes a festering spot you can get gauze/cotton non linting soaked in saline/nasal spray gently hold it there and remove the build up if kitty let's you. Don't aim to remove all in one go or both eyes unless cat is chill. Once it's gone you can follow up daily with just s gentle patting a saline.
Also kitty has some big ears!
Hope the healing goes well!
Why is there a button on it?
It keeps tension on the suture without it cutting into the skin on the cat's eyelid
yar har
meow cat please meow back
Other Mother is half way into taking the kitties soul! Oh no!
Orange button on orange baby
Button Eyes. I never knew such a cute way of doing eye surgeries. TiL they have surgical buttons for eyes.
This poor baby looks like he's really been through it. :/
Growing up my dog had surgery on his ear (was too young to remember why) but I remember he had 3 buttons sewn into his ear after!
Button eye Joe
Poor little guy-- is he missing a leg, too?
Yes he is! He is also missing his tail.
Aww...I'm glad you found each other ♡♡♡
Oh dear, what happened?
Cliffy's eye is not doing too well.
Is baby okay?
He is. The vet is trying to avoid removing his eye. The button just holds the eyelid in place.
Thank you for helping this silly kitty, a thousand blessings for you.
Baby button eyes what are you out doing possessed at this hour?
Cora-feline?
seam deltarune
I hope the baby’s eye will be better soon.

I like how they colour matched ish his button. I didn't know that was a thing.
Just so you know, you can get a pack of 200 self adhesive googly eyes for $6.95. Do whatever you want with this information.
Orange is traditional, but if you’d gone for pink, vermillion, or chartreuse… you might have made me jealous.
Is he also missing a back leg??? Poor baby.
CORALINE CAT I ❤️
Is he a tripod too?
He so cute 😍
I started to get creepy Coraline vibes for a second!
Aww...🥹Is he missing one leg?
Yes he is! He also has no tail (born without it).
Awww what an inspiring dude!!!
Cute but mean, could've gave little bro pirate get up before letting thousands see him. It's not too late, give them a glow up.
(I did see that the button is extremely important, but so I fashion)
The flesh is weak
Are you his “other mother?”
You turned her into a Tim Burton character.
Coralline vibes lol
Everyone saying Coraline but at first I thought about Marceline’s teddy, Hambo.
Ps: Wish you fast recovery!
Awe. Wishing a speedy recovery
Pooooor Ginger. 🙁
My 🍊 was missing an eye as well.
Cliffy has both eyes. One of them is just having problems.
Next stop: Live action Coraline audition!
YOOO!!
CORALINE CAT!!!
The orange cone colored button... Lol!
Hope kitty recovers quickly!!!
If that’s cats name isn’t button you fail
Poor little guy! Hope hes doing fine now
When his eye is feeling better, you should get him a cute eyepatch! 😍
Did the vet really put a button on his/her eye?! LOL
Good luck ✌️
They sew buttons into people too, when needed. button on finger!
Looks like previously had a leg surgery as well. Get him an eye patch and a peg leg for Halloween
pls be careful. you may be lured into a small door in your house where they will eventually try to make you do the same.
Buttons for eyes?!
Omg, I was so confused and upset at first until I read the comment explaining what exactly the button was 😂 Hope he/she is recovering well!! 💕
He looks all right now.
Coraline.
Holy Shit! Skynet made a C3000 Terminator cat!
I can see he's absolutely thrilled about this
The thumbnail made me think you replaced one eye with a dragonball.
Coraline cat??
Poor baby
Happy healing to your sweet little button! What a doll 🥰🥰🥰🥰
An orange button is so appropriate. I hope he's ok.
and missing a leg. Are they diabetic?
My kitten was found with a fractured jaw and they used a button on her jaw
That looks very uncomfortable, hopefully he heals well from that, recovery is no joke, i had a cat that had one of her legs amputated, she did pretty well, but recovery was rough.
1 orange brain cell, one orange button, one orange back leg and no tail! Love it. We had an adorable rescue with one tiny front tooth, one piece of claw(incomplete declaw from prior owner) and half tail! Although she was grey and white and had more brain cells than me. I would call her toofless just to irritate my mother(her chosen human servant).
Before yall get mad at the OP for cat’s button eye pls read this
Sterile Surgical Buttons / Sterile Suture Buttons made out of various latex free materials and used to secure tension suture above the incision site. Ideal for preventing the skin from being cut when tension from a suture is applied.
TLDR - Button are there so the suture string in tension don’t cut into skin. Not photoshopped. Not for the lolz.
