Hello fellas, I'm a returning player (from before pirate systems) and I'm a bit lost about what type of ship has the best stats, when I played the exotic ships were the best by far, but now I see living ships, solar(?) ships, sentinel ships, exotic ships and the usual regular ships (I'm not sure if there are more types).
The sentinel interceptor is the only ship that can hover while on a planet.
Good point.
That by itself is a reason for me to get one
Nope, the star runner expedition ship can also.
Ah right!
Also Interceptors have the highest drive jumps.
What's the highest you've seen for one of those?
One of mine jumps like 9 systems. Lol
Was curious about lightyear range, mostly.
Idk about jump space im only at 2400 roughly in mine but mobility is huge on mine 3k+
So it seems that the best options would be between an interceptor and the good old exotics, thank you.
IMO the best bang for your buck you can get is an interceptor. It's a fun quest to find one, you get it for free, and it has a TON of storage slots pre-installed. Exotics tend to start with low storage, but intercepters give you 2 or 3 times as many pre-installed. The hyperdrive range is great as well.
Nice, I got one "A" last night, I'm not sure if I should keep farming to get an "S".
I enjoyed my A-class Interceptor for a while until I looked up what Carrier AI fragments are (I had 5) and found an S-class dragonfly-style Interceptor.
I like them both.
A's are great, I've yet to find an S. I really like mine and I think I can upgrade it to an S for 50,000 nanites when the time is right.
And I forgot to mention maybe the very best thing about them, their hovering ability. So useful when exploring planets.
So 50k nanites is the cost of the upgrade? that's a lot but I'm not sure if the time consumed to farm an "S" is worth the while so I'm happy with the "A" meanwhile, I'll also try to get a solar ship and compare them for a while.
Yeah, 50k at the space station starship upgrader if I'm not mistaken. Actually, if you're hunting for other Interceptors anyway, I discovered that Radiant Shards turn into 50 nanites each in a refiner. So even if you don't find one, you can collect enough for the upgrade pretty easily on a dissonant planet.
Nice, I'm sure I have a good ammount shards and currently I'm on a dissonant planet, I'll check this out, thank you.
It's a good idea to test them all. Any S class ship with maxed modules can do everything. But they don't *feel* the same. It's about preferences more than min-maxing.
I favour the solar, but if I just had looked at numbers and these kinds of discussions, I'd never have given them a chance. They simply feel better to drive - for me at least.
There's also a matter of opportunity, what you find vs what you are looking for. If the best ship you have seen yet is a S class shuttle well... it's the best ship you have available for now :P
Also I find a lot of variation between models. Cargo size, damage outputs, supercharged slots placement. Not all models are the same. That's not even taking looks into account.
Right, I've been using an ugly cargo ship so far, but hey it gets the job done.
And solars look so cool when deploying their sails and when deployed.
Solars have great maneuverability iirc.
Damage: Fighter > Sentinel > Exotic = Solar = Living > Shuttle = Hauler > Explorer
Shields: Hauler > Exotic > Solar > Explorer > Fighter = Sentinel = Living > Shuttle
Hyperdrive: Explorer > Exotic = Living > Sentinel > Hauler > Solar > Shuttle > Fighter
Maneuverability: Exotic > Solar > Fighter > Explorer > Shuttle > Sentinel > Hauler = Living
Good explanation, thank you.
I calculated the average rank of each ship type in each category, based on this info. The lower the better:
Fighter: 4
Sentinel: 4
Exotic: 2
Solar: 3.25
Living: 4.25
Shuttle: 5.25
Hauler: 4
Explorer: 3.75
Just in case anyone cares. Since there are 8 ship types, I would expect a net average ship type to have a rank of 4. Going by these rankings, exotic ships are the highest performers overall, and by a pretty significant margin.
Good finding, thank you.
Sentinel has the worst maneuverability?
That wasn’t meant to go there 😅. Sentinel has max core maneuverability of 302.5, which is third worst, above haulers and living ships with 279.0
That surprised me as well.
Seems those bastards are always wriggling free of my lazar when they hunt for my jelly tart “contraband”
Exotics or sentinel interceptors for me.
This is the way. Max out storage and you are golden.
That's what it seems so far.
Exotics and sentinels have good all around stats. Sentinels have a hidden bonus to atmosphere flight speed which is cool. Fighters have a hidden bonus to space flight speed making them the fastest ships in the game along with high mobility and the highest damage.
I didn't know about the bonuses, thank you.
I suppose it would really depend on what you are looking to do with the ship, no?
Just general exploration.
Likely a solar or a explorer. The nice thing about the solar is that the launch thrusters recharge.
I've never got my hand on one, do you get them through a quest or just buying them on pirate systems?
You can just buy them!
If you travel and land a lot, then a sentinel ship. They have this perk that allows you to hover in place and look around an area without landing, and reduced take-off costs. They'd be far more deserving of the explorer title IMO.
If you fight a lot, then an exotic or regular fighter. Unlike living or sentinel ships, repairs can be done with mundane resources AND you can use shield batteries in combat.
Good tips, thank you.
I haven't tried out all the ships, but one comment about the solar sail ships: they seem to "get stuck" more often than other models. The pirate freighter missions, where you warp into a system to find a freighter under attack? When I try to attack the pirate dreadnought, half the time I end up "inside" the model, wings are always getting hung up on stuff.
I'll let others respond on the stats, as I'm a relatively new player, just started last month.
I’ve gotten stuck inside a dreadnought with an exotic too, but only once. What got me out was flying toward the hangar, then it forces you out of the model and into the landing areas. Then you’re back to normal
That's good to know, I've never used a solar ship yet, thanks.
I've never gotten my solar ship stuck on anything, and it's my everyday flier.

Basically
Fighter - High Damage Bonus (Vy'keen systems have lots)
Hauler - High Shield Bonus Larger Starting Inventory (Gek Systems)
Explorer - Improved Warp Distance and Lower Launch Cost (Korvax Systems)
Solar - Sails recharge launch thrusters and improve pulse performance (Outlaw systems)
Exotic - High Balanced Bonuses always S class (Systems tend to only have one type)
The last two have different versions of the base technologies, the Interceptor can use standard upgrades
Interceptor - Sentinel Tech Low Launch Cost (Crashed on Dissonant Planets)
Living Ship - Living Technology (Do the Egg Quest - Buy Void Egg from Quicksilver vendor and pulse with egg in inventory)
