Some pictures from Mesa Verde early May. Was fortunate to be able to get on tours for Cliff Palace and Balcony House. Always wanted to see this place since I saw pictures of it in my history book as a kid. Incredible to see it up close. Saw most of Chapin Mesa area in one day, would recommend two days if you plan to see the whole park, all depends on how fast you move and if you want to do any hiking or not, if your just a drive through viewpoint type of person one day might do ya. Wetherill Mesa area closed for construction, check park site for updates. Fun drive up and down the Mesa, keep an eye out for mule deer and feral horses
Thanks for posting. I have this place on my list to visit. It’s amazing
I wish we had a better idea of who they were, where they went. The crisp line on the corner of one of the dwellings is impressive. I wonder if at some point they realized that the cliff dwelling was a structural unsound one and moved on from it.
I went there a couple years ago, but e was unable to go into the ruins. I need to get back down there.
We were also fortunate enough to get to tour Balcony House, that was so incredible to see these places up close. That ladder was sketch, can you imagine the folks who lived on this cliff doing it with fresh kill or something?
I thought that was called canyons of the ancients.
Canyon of the Ancients is a National Monument that’s nearby, wish I had time to visit that too
It's worth visiting along with the Hovenweep units inside of the monument
Great pictures. It is an incredible place! Really makes you think about the people that created this and lived there!
