I’m bored. Here’s a repost of a repost.
SHITPOSTIt really is especially cus they could've traded Trae and still got better statistically like either way they were gonna get better but better is still mid at best
Among all the major sports, I feel like it is in the NBA wherein the correlation between having more top level talents and team success is more prevalent. Unlike in say, the MLB, wherein a team like the Angels had a stretch of years of having the best talent in Trout but had nothing to show for it.
As such, it is also in the NBA where I think that addition by substraction involving high-level talent doesn't really work out that much.
It would be fine if the talent was closer, and that it would let the Hawks have a better built team. But...it's not close. And the drop off would be significant. Even without any injuries to Trae, it's not unrealistic to see them have a year like Toronto or Mephis this year, and end the 24-25 season with 24-25 wins.
The Hawks were worse with both DJM and Trae on the floor than they were with neither on the floor. That's how bad of a fit Dejounte was. Even if Trae is injured most of the year, they would be better than these past two years; and if he isn't, they're probably a playoff team in the weak East
Trying to wish a Trae young injury is sad
No way that’s what you got from my comment
You’re trying to speak it into existence
I'll gladly wish sprained ankles on pube head next year
Idk why Hawks fans care what Spurs fans think, and I definitely don't care what Hawks fans think about what Spurs fans think. The teams barely interact, after the Spurs use or trade their picks there's 0 connection.
Sure, but do you care about what Spurs fans think about what Hawks fans think about what Spurs fans think?
It makes him unreasonably upset
Well their gm is a former scout so there's that but yeah I agree we're only linked cus of the trade and cus of Trae
Hawks fans don’t seems to understand we control their team’s future
Also, they control our future.
TRAE, I'm begging you, please blow up that franchise so they win the lottery 3 years in a row.
Tbf this is probably what their front office wants, too.
To win the lottery for the Spurs 3 years in a row?
Landry Fields is a spurs spy to make the Spurs better
/s
Well they want their pick back.
The Spurs control what will likely be 10th-16th picks, give or take, with some probability of jumping higher. Which isn't ideal for the Hawks, but Spurs fans seem to really overrate how much those picks are probably worth.
The main issue for the Hawks is that it restricts the option set. They might've wanted to blow it up and trade Trae, but as-is the only real path is to stay near the play-in treadmill.
It’d be crazy if a team had like a 3% of winning the lottery right?
The fact that an improbable event happened doesn't mean it wasn't improbable. If the Hawks "won" the lottery again, they'd obviously be very sad about it. And it could happen! It probably won't, though.
Next years draft is stacked though and any lottery picks will be worth gold just for the chance of getting top 4
Atlanta's current picks are just a kings first rounder which is top 12 protected
Atlanta just acquired the Lakers' unprotected 1st rounder. Like the Hawks' picks, it probably won't be a great pick, but it's an Anthony Davis injury away from being compelling.
You got downvoted and I don't know why. Anthony Davis has been very injury prone in the past
As long as their lottery picks then fine with me.
I don’t know if the Hawks are done making moves, but it really seems like a lateral move. they did NOT win that trade at all. sure, Dejounte wasn’t a good fit — but yall only replaced him with a 6ppg aging role player and a young player that’s a terrible shooter but stays on the court because of his solid defense. how does that improve your team enough to put you over any of the other teams in the Eastern Conference?
all the EC teams that just made the playoffs are still clearly better than the Hawks on-paper.
i see zero possibility of the Celtics, Knicks, or Bucks missing the Playoffs next season. the Cavaliers can fall into that group too depending on how FA shakes out.
the Magic and Pacers are probably only going to be better, given that their team is on the younger side.
the Sixers might land Paul George and their record was only as bad as it was last season because Embiid was out for a considerable amount of time.
the Heat? probably still a play-in team because i think it’s going to be a very dry off-season for them but they’ve still got the personnel that puts them over the Hawks.
i feel like there’s an extremely low chance that the Hawks will make the playoffs, and if they do, it’s only going to be as the 8th seed and they’ll certainly lose in the first-round. i don’t think the Hawks are going to land us a top 5 pick at this point unless their squad gets very unlucky but all signs point to that 2025 pick being in the lottery.
A lateral move AT BEST as of now.
You already mentioned eight teams, and the only teams that are clearly worse than the Hawks are the Wizards, Pistons, Nets, and the Raptors as well. Probably the Hornets as well, but it was only two seasons ago that they had the same record, so they might just be a step behind.
That leaves the Bulls. And quite frankly with their FO, they most likely is worse than the Hawks as well, they might even be rebuilding now.
So Hawks maybe as the 9th seed, 8th seed at best? If they get unlucky with the injuries, they could go down as low as 11?
yea i just said all that
Wouldn’t be surprised if they tried to move Capela for a guard, wing, or pick
Even if they do get better, they’re gonna be stuck in the mud with no capital to get better unless they trade trae and commit to the tank do they not understand that there ceiling currently is fringe play in team and that was with DJ
Under that post there's Hawks fans saying we're "desperate" to get Trae... which couldn't be further from the truth.
The way i see it, they need to make more moves, how they are now they'd be a borderline play-in team, and a Trae injury could put them in the low to mid lottery. Best case scenario for them is getting their picks back and going into a rebuild, but since that isn't happening they are having to cope with going into that not good enough not bad enough region that ends in mediocrity.
Yeah it's really the opposite the hawks have been desperate trying to get too much from us, in proposed trades the spurs have shut them down at least twice now cus they want too much
Ngl, there were a bunch of people here who have constantly blown the Trae horn.
It’s annoying cuz he obviously doesn’t fit a Spurs type of system
Describe the “system”
Number 1 response when people use the “system” to justify any argument from A-Z.
Not an Iso heavy team, Locked onto a defensive mindset where everyone holds there own, No one is above the other.
All things Trae has had a problem with in his career
And since when was this “system” ever put into place? We’re never had a team like is.
are you new? this has always been a thing. pop will yell at wemby as much as anyone else.
If people aren’t puttting effort 100% defensively, especially when they’re not good, they are pulled out.
Spurs are also a team that puts value in assisting the team
We have multiple defensive liabilities on our team who get significant playing time.
Either you’re a child or a casual fan. Spurs have been like this almost 30 years now. Just because the talent disparity has changed doesn’t mean the philosophy has. This is basketball 101 and common sense.
Tony Parker was a liability on defense and we won 4 championships with him
We got a Trae -- Traore. Lol
Murray is really good, he is not at the right team yet (NOP is not it) but he can be in a championship team. All he needs a real alfa on the team to just focus on being a menace on defense and doing what he does on offense.
I think the Hawks did the right thing in moving DJ. IMHO he's a cancer.
The Hawks were way better before he got there. They got worse every year that they had him, it was either him or Trae and they made the right call.
The part I don’t get is why so many Spurs fans seem sure that the Hawks’ pick is going to be better than the Sours’ pick. The Spurs are more likely to be high in the lottery than the Hawks are. Spurs fans keep saying “but if Trae gets hurt” in this kind of grossly celebratory way; well, if Victor gets hurt, we’re a bottom 3 team at best.
Like, chill and stop posting thinly veiled hopes that a player gets hurt.
The coping is wild lol. Even as someone not that high on Dejounte to see fans saying they got better by getting rid of him is dumb asf. One injury to Trae like last year and they’re cooked
