What’s the full form of FLCL ?
FooLy CooLy if I remember right
That’s a weird name, is it worth watching ?
Very much so, yes :)
Cool I’ll check it out.
6 episodes 2 hrs prepare for a hell of a ride
The show is much weirder than the name lol.
It's peak though.
Interesting pick, I'm more a fan of Haruko and Mamimi personally.
Growing up I was exactly like Naota and so downbad for Haruko.
As an adult....Ninamori was best girl hands down.
They're fake
She was one of the best foils for Naota. Her growth during the span of the series (not even just episode 3 where her story mostly takes place) in the few scenes she is in, is really well done. She is also one of my favorite characters in the series, really underrated pick for sure.
this is the my 1st time seeing this character, from which anime is this.. so i can watch.
Maomao from Apothecary Diaries
Word.
HANA NI NATTE
Watching that and Frieren at the same time was amazing
We were eating unbelievably well for a bit there as high/pure (whatever term you prefer) fantasy fans
I couldn't agree more
Nina Fortner (Anna Liebert) - Monster
I needa finish that series. I'm at around episode 28, does it pick up from that point on?
Yes. Monster is one of the best series I've seen. You have to be patient at some parts, but the payoff is worth it
Throw a dart at a board of Monogatari girls and you’ll get a good answer.
Besides them, I’d say Homura from Madoka Magica or Togame from Katanagatari
Or any of the san gatsu women. The shaft girls are all S tier
Throw a dart at a board of Monogatari girls and you’ll get a good answer.
If you had to pick one, who would you go with?
Best girl Kaiki
(Sengoku)
Really really hard to say. Hanekawa seems like the best choice- but both her and hitagi make such leaps and strides in working out their issues as the series goes on.
I'm going to lean Senjogahara since she has some of my favorite interactions with other characters- her Interactions- or lack thereof- with hachikuji, her fear/rivalry and friendship with Hanekawa, her masterful teasing/love of araragi mixed with how well she understands him- and how little he understands himself, so quickly. Her straight up throwing hands with sodachi with no hesitation- hanekawa has the best recurring themes and gags but I've never not loved a senjogahara scene- and they're also some of the least fan servicey in the series minus episode 2.
Homura is the best answer for real
Homura is my fav Madoka character by far. Maybe Sayaka comes close.
I assumed the monogatari series was a copy paste harem with incest bait. If the characters are actually that well written I’m gonna pick it up rn
Do it
a copy paste harem
Yeah, it's by no means a 'copy-paste'. It's extremely unique, I don't think I've seen anything similar to it yet.
Bunny girl senpai is kinda similar but monogatari is still miles better overall
I see what you mean, like if you gave a short summary of both they would sound very similar. But I mean more-so in the way that Monogatari presents itself is what makes it unique.
I hope that makes sense lol.
Monogatari is definitely way more complex. Like for me atleast to comprehend everything that was happening I had to rewind it again and again. 24mins episode took me like 35mins to watch.
It is some of the best written dialog in anime. but it is alot of dialog alot. pro tip don't watch on Crunchyroll they do not have episodes 13-15 of Bakemonogatari
I assume you're already convinced, but I'll add on that nisioisin, the writer of the light novel, doesn't write ecchi/harem stuff outside of this, he generally focuses on more like regular novels with lengthy dialogues. He specifically chose to try writing in the harem genre to see how he could play around with its tropes.
In addition to that, the way Shaft has stylised the anime and incorporated lines from the light novel directly as silent film style intertitles is masterful. I haven't heard people recommending the anime specifically because of the fan service because thats not a major part of the anime as a whole, even if it's known for pushing the boundaries with some scenes.
All the women in monogatari tolerate an incestuous pedophile. They all hang out with this creep because he does one nice thing for each. Build a harem one errand at a time. No these female characters are a fantasy of the author who needs his PC checked. This series entirely rides on the talent of Shaft.
Faye and Revy actually have their own motivations and stories. Any of the women in Frieren are better written. That's not even digging into Josei.
For me it’s always gonna be violet evergarden.
I don’t cry much, it’s the only anime ever to break me.
When Netflix automatically started the next episode after the end of the mother-daughter letters, I had to pause it because I couldn't hear my TV over me sobbing. I love my media to be highly emotional, so it's far from the only one to make me cry, but I've never cried so hard over another piece of media.
Faye Valentine
Ed, from cowboy beep bop.
Violet Evergarden 100000 percent.
Balalika from Black Lagoon. Woman doesn’t have that much screen time yet by her dialogue and actions you can infer her entire past. Plus she’s badass.
Black Lagoon does a great job making objectively evil characters interesting. Balalaika just happens to be the best of all
The best written female anime character I have ever seen and I’ve seen just about all of them is from the anime Snow White with the red hair. Shirayuki. Hollywood needs to start taking notes from characters like her on how to actually write a strong female character and not this cringe Crap where they just try and turn women into men or making them act like a bitch because they somehow think that equals strong.
There are some other honorable mentions like Yona from Yona of the Dawn or He Liao Diao from kingdom.
Personally i gotta say taiga (toradora)
TORADORA!
Jolyne Cujoh idgaffff
The Goat
I was looking for this one
Mayushii - Steins;Gate
Watching the slap for the first time was incredible. Tons more, especially in 0, but no one else could have successfully done what she did in the rooftop.
Akane Tsunemori from Psycho Pass
Surprised this doesn't have more upvotes
Definitely. She's fantastic
My pick: Hanekawa Tsubasa (Monogatari series).
Fuuko from Undead Unluck, her character development is incredible
Manga has her firing on all cylinders, bit of shame the anime turned out a bit... underwhelming
The Sound Euphonium girls. Specifically Kumiko Oumae and Asuka Tanaka, but really the whole female cast is superb.
the two nanas from NANA
Ohhhhh this is a good one! It's such an underrated show, too
Any character from Monogatari basically
Sakurajima Mai from Seishun Buta Yarou
Any character from Frieren basically
Lucy from Cyberpunk Edgerunners
Well, a lot
Character writing is frierens main weak point imo. It's like a solid 9.5 everywhere else and like a 7 for characters.(It's a Manga so I'm lenient, that medium is inherently limited)
Sakurajima mtherfukn Mai lets go
Mai Sakurajima is probably one of the more realistic female characters in anime. She has flaws and admits she has flaws. She actually acts like an irl human would but she is also the type of girlfriend most people would dream of. She’s not overly crazy or exaggerated in her expressions.
A comparable anime female is Asuna from SAO. She seems ideal with very little flaws but she is simply too bland and akin to a doll. She rarely makes important decisions for herself and relies on others almost too much. Also she’s TOO nice that it becomes annoying. No one is that perfect.
Any other female has this exaggerated cartoon vibe that simply does not reflect a normal/average female human being. Tsunderes, Kuuderes, Yanderes, etc., are all exaggerated terms of human behavior.
Any character from Frieren basically
Definitely not. Some yes.
Kumiko Oumae from “Sound! Euphonium”. Such a dynamic & realistic arc for her over the course of the series.
Honestly I think all of the main Sound Euph girls are incredibly written. Kumiko, Reina, Sapphire, Asuka, Mami, Hazuki, Nagase. Not to even mention Yoroizuka and the whole group in Liz and the Blue Bird.
bump. hibike euphonium is pretty much the first anime i thought of that really has an extensive cast full of well written female characters.
Erza Scarlet (Fairy Tale)
She's not my favorite in the slightest, but I wouldn't blame anyone for having her a s their pick. She has a lot of layers to her amd she's bad ass
Revy from black lagoon
Honestly, gonna say the same thing.
Violet evergarden
I think arnheid from Vinland saga was incredibly well written, but she probably didn’t get as much screen time as a lot of the other characters here
Tenten (Naruto)
It's sad she gets like 0 screen time
Yui Yuigahama
What anime is the girl from?
My pick: Hanekawa Tsubasa (Monogatari series).
Haruhi Suzumiya. I don’t know why, but when I stumbled on the anime , I couldn’t stop watching it. Her personality was odd and unique
Violet evergarden, and makise kurisu for me, actually wait also miyo saimori (usuba)
Eva Heinemann from "Monster" is not just (imo) the best written female character of all time for her masterfully executed redemption arc exceeding even Zuko's and her journey for self-value but genuinely one of the greatest fictional characters ever.
Eva's character development was definitely my fav part of Monster
This is one that is definitely overlooked.
Shiki ryougi
Asuka
W
Holy shit I didn’t realize your profile picture was asuka lol
haha
evangelion is PEAK
The Girls in Nichijou.
Rachel from ToG
Gotta be Akane Tsunomori from Psycho Pass. Her arc was genuinely so captivating and compelling.
Fuuko izumo, Undead Unluck. You don't get to see it for a while but her development from how she starts to the current manga is a beautiful thing to watch.
Hori from HoriMiya
That doesnt look like Maomao
Kiss Shot from monogatari and Vladilena Milize from 86
Sarada’s Mom on Baruto
Main character of Metamorphosis💀
Violet Evergarden
some people here just choosing cool/hot characters and most are so obviously written for the male audience😭
Right? Just because she’s hot and super feminine doesn’t mean she’s well written. Shonen in general usually has pretty poorly written female characters (with some exceptions)
What are you talking about? Sakura and Tenten are obviously the most well rounded characters in the history of anime and manga. /s
I didn’t finish all of Naruto so I can’t exactly say with certainty that they’re not, but I hated Sakura almost instantly. That episode where she basically makes fun of Naruto for being an orphan to win Sasuke points or whatever pretty much made me hate her. Almost all of the girls in that show are so boy obsessed they’re willing to abandon all of their morals if it means their crush will even acknowledge their existence.
Fuuko Izumo
Ehh, juiz is written better imo
Lain from Serial Experiments Lain
Any girl from Monogatari or Omae Kumiko
It honestly has to be from the unknown animes
Osaka
Homura or Sayaka from Madoka Magica
Hanekawa Tsubasa nuff said
Lena from 86 is someone I'm surprised I haven't seen everywhere here
Homura madoka magica
Yona of the dawn
Kiruko from Heavenly Delusions
If you ask me, I’d say Revy from Black Lagoon. Never have I seen a character with such fire, yet such depth. And a backstory to back up such fire. If I go into detail, it might be a spoiler and besides, I’m a newbie.
Yona from yona of the dawn
I scrolled and scrolled and haven’t seen anyone say Taiga, Minori, or Ami from Toradora 🤦♂️
Im really surprised that I haven’t seen any responses referring to the female cast of chainsaw man. Most of them (if not all of them) are very well written and in the case of the question, my answer would be makima
Violet Evergarden
Captain Misato Katsuragi from Evangelion.
She lives through the second impact with the help of her father. He sacrifices himself to save her. She then devoted her life to training and fighting the angels should they ever return.
She handles the stress of leading a group of scared, immature, and broken children and getting them to fight in giant robots while running a government task force as the literal last hope to save humanity against GOD.
All the while, she has her own development issues and fears from her father dying and surviving the second impact. And the love of her life being assassinated while they try to find out the truth about the angels and the governments plans with them.
Misato is best girl in one of the best anime.
Winry Rockbell from FMAB 😤
Kagome and Sango from Inuyasha (the original) and Olivier Armstrong(FMAB). Rei from Evangelion
ETA: Riza Hawkeye (FMAB), Power and Asa (Chainsaw Man), Kikyo (Inuyasha), Asuka (Evangelion…even though she’s not my fave she WAS well written), Faye Valentine (Cowboy Bebop) Kagura and Otae (Gintama), Yor Forger (Spy x Family). Machi and Tohru’s mom (Fruits Basket). That’s all I can think of right now from what I’ve seen.
Violet Evergarden
Lyuze, casshern sins Marlene Angel, blue gender Homura, madoka magica Rekki, haibane Renmei Isako, dennoh coil And just about any of the monogatari girls
i saw someone say Homura from Madoka Magica, and that’s honestly the best answer
Frieren
frieren from frieren
Satou Matsuzaka from Happy Sugar Life
(Oikura Sodachi best girl, fight me monogatari fans)
satou, #2. surprised i had to scroll hella long to find this lol
Violet Evergarden and Hana (Wolf Children) come to my mind.
Violet is my answer. She's amazing (though it's not particularly because any aspect of being female).
Kumiko Oumae
My pick is either asuka or makima (from the manga) I also really appreciate Jolyne
From the older anime:
Major Kusunagi, Misato Katsuragi, Asuka, Risa Hawkeye, Nina Fortner
From the more recent anime
Homura Akemi, Makise Kurisu, Violet, Tsunade.
Kurumi Tokisaki, Mio Takamiya de Date a live Othinus, misaka mikoto de Toaru majustu new testament Riza, Olivier de Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood
Lucy from Cyberpunk Edgerunners and ed & Faye from cowboy bebop
Frieren.
Beatrice and ange from umineko
Jolyne from jojo
Mayuri from stein gate
Every girl from aot execpt mikasa
Hachiman
Balsa, from Moribito
Aura from Frieren. She is only in 2 episodes but manage to rack up quite the following. Even being the tops of the Character Popularity Poll.
I just think that’s the horny kicking in. She’s not written well at all, she’s nothing but a plot device to prove how good Frieren is at concealing her mana. What did we get about her that suggests good writing? She’s powerful and cocky, then she kills herself because Frieren tells her to. That’s…it. The moment itself is badass, but not because of Aura.
Its Hanekawa
followed by Kurokami Medaka, Tenjou Utena and Lina Inverse
Does Aigis from P3 count? Is a game, after all
My personal picks are beatrice and ange ushiromiya from umineko, althought if we count just anime (Without LN, VN Etc.) Then i would say all monogatari female characters
Faye valentine Celty from drrr Asuka
I have a soft spot for
Youko Nakajima, the protagonist from The Twelve Kingdoms
Chihaya Ayase, the protagonist from Chihayafuru
Homura Akemi
Alita from Gunnm
Personally I'm devoted to the blonde vampire, but Hanekawa is so up there. Sodachi is so close as well. Both their stories break my heart, especially Sodachi.
lain iwakura and paprika
rakka from haibane renmei.
Natsumi Schwarz. She is overqualified
I don't think there is any standard, which we could all agree on, to determine whether a character is poorly or well written.
That being said, I was very impressed with Chise Hatori from Ancient Magus' Bride. All of the girls in Madoka Magica also impressed me.
Minori Kushieda from Toradora.
Despite her eccentricities, don't think I know any other character as fleshed out and deeply layered as her.
Sengoku Nadeko from Monogatari
Mitsuha
Lalatina
Idk maybe casca
Faputa and riko from made in abyss
Who's the girl in the picture
Idk abt best written but here’s some that have some of my fav writing, I got Toga/Ochako, all 3 of the main girls from Toradora, Fuuko, Aki Adagaki, Makima, Rem , C.C, Kallen, Rukia and Kikoru Shinomiya (manga Ofc)
Ryougi, maomao, senjougahara (most mono females would work honestly), Lena
Who is this?
Asuka is my favorite character ever, and I think she's the best written as well
Kobayashi. She might be the coolest person in the world.
Noelle from Black Clover alone is what makes the female cast from BC the best among Shōnen
this is a WILD take
Ayumu Kasuga.
IYKYK.
Nakajima Youko from The 12 kingdoms. I also like Chihaya Ayase (Chihayafuru) and Noda Megumi (Nodame Cantabile).
I haven’t seen them all but Frieren is the best for me along with Raphtaila.
Koyomi Araragi or Sengoku Nadeko.
Ryougi Shiki and Violet Evergarden
Saber Alter
Yawara Inokuma!
Taiga Aisaka is the best tsundere ever written
What character is that
Rin Tokusa or Nino (Quintessential Quadruplets)
Shoko komi
Yotsuba from quintessential quintuplets.
Riza Hawkeye from FMA
Vivy solos
I like Revy.
Asuka Langley is such a realistic depiction of a certain kind of traumatized girl that's been left to drown alone in her misery.
My best friend and wife was one such girl when we were kids and if I hadn't had this depiction of her struggle presented to me as a child, I probably would have overlooked her as a selfish and rude brat like so many others did back then. Instead, I made the most important connection of my life and we helped each other to overcome our difficult backgrounds. I absolutely dread the thought of what my life would be like if she was not a part of it.
Tomoyo Sakagami from Clannad/Tomoyo After. She's just peak character writing
Kurisu makise was a pretty balanced, intelligent, and good character
Violet Evergarden. She was brought into the army at a young age and trained to be a human weapon. This molded her mind into thinking she was only there to serve others needs. This is why she couldn’t comprehend the commanders kindness towards her. As the story progresses she changes and grows to become more and more human while starting to truly feel different emotions and learn about things such as friendship. Thats my take on it anyway.
Izumi Curtis from FMA
Agent paper
Kagura from Gintama Rakuyo arc makes her character phenomenal
Who is this girl in the post? What anime is she from?
For me as I not watched much anime it’s Ryuko Matoi and Maya Fey are my favorite anime girls so far
Kiana from honkai impact destroys
Ninamori in FLCL. Her grown-up, feisty attitude and the way she handles so many complex things really charmed me.
