I joined my muay thai gym in March 2023 because I needed a new way to challenge myself in life and I wanted to lose weight. Lost 30 pounds (195 to 165) and fought in three exhibition fights leading up to tonight. The self-doubts never fully go away but I’ll continue pushing myself
I'm down from 197 to 168 dieting and doing MT since February, but I do not look nearly this ripped T_T. Kudos to OP. Agreed, this is like the worst case scenario for a 0-0 fighter to run into.
Not surprised, would hate for my first opponent to have be this ripped 😂
Honestly, my first opponent was absolutely ripped and legit "looked like" a professional fighter.
My arse fell out a bit when I saw him walking to the ring because I certainly do not have the generic look of a fighter haha. Absolutely smashed the dude though. It honestly gave me such a confidence boost because from then it really reinforced it to me that it doesn't matter what someone looks like. I already kinda knew that from watching plenty of fights and knowing that most of the best dudes at my gym aren't the scariest looking but yeh, this really cemented it for me.
Tbf in third pic his opponent looks similar built
He was solid himself too
Was just thinking, this is just like the mf I would get stuck with for my first am fight. I was eighteen and my opponent was a 30 year old CrossFit coach that practiced MT as a hobby 😔
OP looks lean and mean
Why they let this grown man fight amateur? 😂
great job though seriously that’s amazing progress and journey!
Congrats bro!
Thank you!
Great job dude!
You look like a unit bro, good work
bro looking OCKY
proud of you champ
Congrats!
Inspiring shit bro🙌🏼
Oh shit I had my first 2 matches at the same venue!! Congrats 💪🏽💪🏽
Appreciate it bro
how did you get over the nerves
Just keep reminding yourself that you have trained for this exact moment for years or months. That you are a bad MFer and that no body is as real as you essentially
Did you do any weight or strength training on top of training Muay Thai? wanting to start training but also want to lift weights and not sure how to balance
No way he got those abs without putting in some serious work outside the MT gym.
Tbh I was a “gym bro” before getting into Muay Thai so some of that carried over. I currently do two strength sessions a week on top of 5-6 Muay thai sessions. Usually spar twice a week
Appreciate it brother that helped me sort of plan my schedule out. Good luck in your next fights 💪🏻
Thanks a lot man
Great job.. But I have a question: How long did it take for a recovery after the fight?
Thanks! The fight was today so I’m still recovering from some pain in my side from a couple of good knees my opponent landed. It’s nothing too serious so I should be ok after a week
Hell yea, dude! Congrats! Keep at it
Nice man! That’s no small feat. Congratulations, you look like a beast!
How long was the cut between the two body photos?
4 months
Nice one, any tips for cutting that long?
Supplementation, calories, things that helped?
First and foremost, determine your “why” and constantly refer back to it as the cut progresses and gets tougher. I’d recommend starting gradually with a -200 caloric deficit and working up to 500. I aimed to lose 1.5-2 pounds a week over those 4 months so I worked up to a 750-900 daily caloric deficit and tracked my nutrition regularly. You can add in cardio if you don’t want to cut as much calories from food. I only added cardio once I was certain I wanted to compete. Overall, you can’t out train a bad diet as the saying goes
Legend
Fantastic, great achievement
Great work bro
fuck yeah
Congratulations 🙏 how old are you?
29
How long have you been training for? I want to train and eventually compete in boxing…but I’m 25 already.
I’ve been training since March of last year. If competing is something you want to accomplish, then go after it. Don’t let age stop you from
Thank you so much bro, truly I know this to be true, however the validation is truly appreciated.
Hell yeah bro! That's awesome! Keep it up, very impressive. I don't know you, but I'm proud of you.
Saw you do you thing yesterday at Johns! Great fight!
Thank you!
My man! Glad we could be there to support you. Can’t wait for the next one

Congrats dude! You look fucking shredded.

For half a second I thought, “damn!, this man is standing on his vanquished opponent’s feet!”
Good luck with your new career! Hard work pays off.
Good, keep going
Me getting myself into my first amateur fight seeing this dude: nope
Congrats king
Amazing and congrats all around from the fight to the life challenge 👏👏👏👏👏 if you're in NYC, even better. Muay Thai scene up there is actually pretty heavy compared to other places. Good on u
What was the score card?
OP how tall are you
5’9
How long have you been training?
A year and 2 months
Awesome! I’ll be taking my first class this week at 30 years old, kinda nervous, but excited for the challenge.
Go for it bro. I told myself I’m too old (29) for Muay Thai and ended up winning my first fight
Dude I’m 165 and would be terrified to see this guy across the ring. You look 185, that’s insane! Props to you.
Win or lose. Its about the game.
Absolutely
Good stuff

Congrats dude !! That is an insane weight cut, keep going at it hard ! I joined the amateur circuit in last march. Didn't win but was glad I stepped on the ring and you're motivating me push through despite the doubts 🔥👌
congrats
Massive bro 💪💪
Great physique! How tall are you?
5’9
LETS FUCKING GOOOOO
I'm in good shape but would like to know your regime I'd like to be this ripped I'm more like the before photo if I'm honest
Strength: I do full body workouts that way I can hit the gym 2-3 times a week without compromising my muay Thai training. I focus on compound exercises like bench press, overhead press, squats, deadlifts, pullups. Then I might throw in some isolating exercises like curls or overhead tricep extensions at the end of my workout if I feel working on smaller muscles. I aim for anywhere between 10-15 total sets in a week for whichever muscle groups im prioritizing.
The most important part was cleaning up my nutrition, eating anywhere between .7-1g of protein per pound of body weight and maintaining a moderate cut over 4 months.
Cardio: cardio is optional if you’re on point with your nutrition. I only started doing three 5-mile runs a week once I was serious about competing
yessir that’s wha we like to see, keep up tha work✊🏻
How tall are you? I ask because I assume 165 is for giants
5’9
Your coaches didn’t want you to fight at a lower weight class?
They suggested it but at the time I just didn’t feel like cutting more weight after losing 30. But I am considering going lower in the coming months
I’m the same height and fought at 155 which was a compromise with my coaches wanting me to be at 145. 145 felt like I would be too weak
I don’t see myself going lower than 155 for the same reason. I like pressing forward when fighting and retaining my strength has definitely helped
Same! I’m in NYC too btw - I train at kings. Hope to see you do your thing at a warriors cup real soon
I appreciate it bro! I’m trying to get matched at Warriors cup in July or August. Wish you all the best
Damn, when even having day dreams for signing up for a first fight this is NOT the fool I want to step in the ring with. 195 to 165 is crazy, nice man!
