La Sportiva Makalu — yay or nay?

Looking for a mountaineering boot to tackle things in the PNW. Will be doing Shasta soon as well. Was thinking on getting the Makalu. However I don’t see a lot of folks talk about them anymore. Curious what your thoughts are.

Pretty old boot, rather heavy and not fully waterproof. The leather upper can be treated to be mostly waterproof, but will still give in to water after prolonged exosure.

Maybe it walks better than other B3s though.

They either fit perfectly, or they're the worst boot you've ever worn. You aren't going to break them in either, they'll break you in. Fantastic fit when they fit right, but they aren't going to give you any leeway if they don't fit perfectly to begin with. Very stiff, step in crampon capable. I've worn out 3 pairs over the years and was really happy with them.
