Hello!! I’m taking a trip up north with 2 friends for 4 days. we want to do dispersed/rustic camping and some fishing. somewhere preferably close to lake superior, or on another lake. ideally in an area with plenty of cool sights to see as we don’t have anything planned but camping for those 4 days. any suggestions?
thank you!! Hogback lake is looking good
That whole area is awesome. Make sure you stop by Trestle Inn! It’s a saloon-style bar on a gravel road (Cramer Rd near Hogback) with possibly the best burgers in northern MN. There are lakes up and down Cramer Rd, Wanless Rd and others, with easy fishing access and some dispersed sites if you search for them. Make sure you get a trout stamp with your fishing license.
Finland State Forest and George Crosby Manitou State Park are also both close by and definitely worth a visit. Lots of rivers to fish around the area and along the Superior Hiking Trail.
thank you kindly!
Second Crosby Manitou and Finland state forest, as well as the trestle inn.
If you go to The trestle inn, get a full train wreck with casualties. It's like a delicious roulette
As far as Crosby, sites 10-15 are very remote for what they are. You'd only see people hiking back into a further in campsite.
Plus pooping on a toilet that is surrounded by nothing but nature is a little bit magical.
If you want something more remote, there are two bwca sites around whale lake, were you hike in at the eagle mountain trailhead?
thank you 🙏🏻 i HAVE to try the trainwreck, Trestle Inn is definitely on my itinerary. also i second that, pooping in nature is very fun, if not a little scary.
I just went camping this weekend to wooden frog state Forrest campground on lake kabetogama. Highly recommend!
One of the rustic sites on a lake in the Superior national forest. Probably the Tofte district.
