Airport traffic is fun but why do they always have to park on the goddamn runways?
SCREENSHOTRecently departed from a small GA airport with two giant tugs for moving widebodies, and a fire truck that looked like it came from LAX
I had the exact same reaction. “That’s not accurate. No way there’d be another plane at ‘KABC’, let alone a Baron!”
Guys waiting with hard hats and giant tugs really took it to the next level, though. I do wish the game had more input from the dirtbag bugsmasher community to get this stuff right.
Give us an old drunk bastard passed out under his Luscombe at a small town airport, or somebody tinkering with a Grumman Yankee that’ll never fly again.
Also, my home field, which is very much an actual airport with a full time employee and bathroom and avgas pump and everything, is not named or given a blue dot. The game just does not admit of its existence, while nearby farm strips and private strips even I’ve never heard of are modeled fine.
There’s even X’s on the runway.
Its for extra realism 😆. You'd be surprised at what I've come across at my home field IRL...never come straight in to an untowered that doesn't have enough traffic where you'd get a report if there was something up with the runway.
Why are they using taxiway at all?!
EXACTLY!! Drives me nuts...
Nothing worse at the end of a great flight then to have to go face to face with these guys on a taxiway. I've thought of decreasing traffic around the airport but even the few that are left still do it so that doesn't even work.
Yeah, the traffic at airports is stupid. No one EVER crosses the run way IRL except airfield operations and emergency vehicles. They also randomly park in the middle of spots even if you're already there. Its stupid.
Making of Speed X
I had to shut it off. I had traffic jams at my small local airport.
That's my biggest annoyance. Yea, clearly my small municipal airport always has a bunch of busses and forklifts wandering around the airport 24/7 and always has a guy ready to push me back in the spot where you just pull out 🙄. Even if you make your own airport, there's no option in the SDK to tell the sim to cut it out.
Just another tourist bus
I've got the vehicle traffic set to an absolute minimum, I got sick of my local GA airfield continuously having streams of busses and tugs making their way up and down the runway.
A few days ago I finally had enough of the vehicles and turned them off completely. They're fun to watch as they're ingested into your engines, but not on vatsim, and not when I'm trying to park at a gate. I had a fire truck parked in front of the gate I was assigned on vatsim and that was the trigger for me finally turning them off.
I don't know what's worse, the vehicles driving through your plane or the during push ground crews at local airports that 'enter' your plane while they line up to push you back.
PSA to other airport devs. Make sure you set up and connect vehicle roadways correctly.
ground vehicles randomly drive from 1 parking spot to another. they will take taxiways and runways to get there however they will prefer vehicle roads over them if available! So a properly set up road network is the best way to combat this. Use airport perimeter roads, or I've even sent to roads onto city streets before to get the vehicles off the runways. you can also keep the parking spots to 1 area that doesn't require crossing a runway to.
To my fellow virtual pilots. I always keep the vehicle settings on low. that way theres less vehicles over all. when this happens i either ignore it or trat it like a real situation and go around. things like this can and do happen IRL
And if you look too your right you will see a A320 about to take off! Oopsy, we might be in their way so let's move on the active arrivals runways to watch them land!
Not just ground traffic, I wish planes landing would stop parking on the runway. Just for schitz n giggles, I held short at the end of the runway and waited for clearance to take off after a plane landed, like I'm supposed to.
Pretty sure it was 5 minutes before the plane finally despawned.
"American 355 exit runway when able."
"American 355 turn at next taxiway."
"American 355 exit runway when able."
Gah!
I have yet to land in SFO without having to go around at least 2 times because every AI plane landing ahead wouldn't exit the runway. Sometimes I feel like the second Go around is because of the same plane who still hasn't left the runway.
I once was losing altitude in the a320 and couldn't figure why. Switched to outside view and a fuel truck was attached to me. Switched back to cockpit, back to outside and it had vanished 😄
Gsx isn't much better. Instead of busses on the runways it's firetrucks cutting you off on the taxiway.
because "Go Around; Not clear to land!"
For me it’s either tugs or forklifts

Best part is when ATC tells you to hold for traffic short of runway and you just watch a fuel truck pass by on the runway.
That bus gets on my nerves on the street even out of flight simulator. It slows traffic.
This is probably my #1 complaint with MSFS. We went from great AI traffic in FSX to buses galore on the runways in MSFS.
