I live in Oakland County south of Pontiac. Totally bonkers with the deer poop and loss of flowers and vegetation. How do I keep them away from my home and yard? Ready to move to the desert.
Human hair is the best deterrent. Get it from a haircut place.
We prefer non-hairy vegetation. So, if you can manage to shred up enough human hair and sprinkle it on all the leaves and flowers twice a week and after every rain, we'll prefer your neighbor's stuff.
Otherwise, we're not much into daffodils.
If you and your compatriots would stay away from my fruit trees, I'd appreciate it. I'm sick of having to surround the trees with poultry mesh. It's unsightly.
Thank you. We will be taking these formal complaints under consideration. No promises for now.

Wait til you learn that the desert has Javalina which will also destroy your yard
Kill it and grill it
Sounds delicious and a great way to spend time outdoors.
8 foot tall fence is the only sure way
other than that, it's a losing battle.
plant stuff they don't like to eat, and learn to live with em
You can shoot deer…
Not within city limits you can’t.
Dang cities and their.. limits
even if you live in a place that you can shoot them, it doesn't do much
source: hunted a 10 acre property just outside city limits, along with a few other people. Averaged 8 to 9 deer a year (almost all does) for 5 years and the landowner still had their landscaping destroyed. They ended up putting a fence around the entire perimeter of their yard
I’ve used rabbit pee spray. You can find it at Lowe’s/Home Depot.
Spray coyote piss around your yard. Problem solved!!
Liquid Fence You can buy it on Amazon, Tractor Supply, Rual King etc. Its an organic spray that repells them. Reapply after rain. I've used it for years, and use it on my garden. Nothing else has worked for me.
There's spray you can buy to repel them. Or make your own with cayenne powder. Take up hunting! (the legal way)
🤣
I have had pretty good luck using a product called Liquid Fence.
I don’t have a problem with deer despite the large population, but then I have dogs.
Had “success” with motion activated sprinklers. Problem is that you planted a bait pile.
Marigolds would be safe to plant, since deer don’t like the smell.
Liquid fence works well. For larger area they also have a granular option to sprinkle about. Also check out plants they don’t like but you have to give up Hostas or be vigilant about liquid fence. Couple websites below to check out for native plants and they will indicate if they are deer resistant. Deer will eat anything if starving.
stop destroying their habitat and removing their predators would be a great start
also, you could do better than "vegetation" if you want a serious answer for less-delicious landscape alternatives
Yeah, that'd be a great start 100 years ago, little late now. But who knows, maybe OP is a billionaire real estate developer that is busy putting HOA housing developments in.
Destruction of habitat has very little to do the increased deer population. Wolves and mountain lions are primary predators of deer in the eastern us and we haven't had those in any significant numbers for the last hundred years. Coyotes do occasionally prey on fawns and their numbers are also increasing in suburban areas.
The primary reasons for increased deer population are a huge decrease in hunting; more competing deer in rural areas pushes them into the suburbs to find food. Also, warmer winters allow more deer to survive until spring
No, humans are but it's increasingly difficult to access the area where the deer congregate because of restrictions.
Repels-all pellets
Plant stuff they don't like to eat, have a dog. Not much else you can do, they're hungry and they're everywhere.
