Just received a Boundaries hoodie in the mail. It was the Death Is Little More Hoodie (Black) for $60. I ordered the hoodie as the picture of the hoodie look like really good quality. They did not have any description as to what that material was being used. Received the hoodie to find out it was Gildan brand. Really disappointed because I had a blast seeing them live and want to support them. Am I overreacting? Should I just suck it up and rock the hoodie?
He’s trolling lol
They use those shirts because they are cheap. Sometimes that all the printing companies can get.
At the end of the day I just see it as giving the band some money. The clothes are just a bonus. I know it's disappointing though.
Rock it, unfortunately Gildan is the industry standard. Unless the band says otherwise it will most likely be a gildan hoodie
Champion seems to be used more and more. My last 2 hoodies (Counterparts-The Used) were both champion. They are very nice
I ordered the physical copy of Odyssey from Valiant Hearts and it came with a hoodie. It was printed on ASColour, which may be the most comfortable hoodie I’ve ever owned
Most aus merch seems to be on AS which is nice
It feels nice and soft but I think it's too thin. I have old hoodies and shirts from the early 2010s and they're much thicker and seem like they will last forever. I definitely prefer the heavier weight stuff, but it doesn't seem that common anymore. Probably not cheap enough
I've got a few alpha wolf shirts from like 2018 I've worn hundreds of times at this point with not that much wear and tear for 6 years, maybe (probably) it's changed since then
where do you order from? Imchasing Boundaries and some others from Aus if possible, cheers
Sorry I guess I meant to say aus bands specifically
I have tons and tons of gildan shirts and hoodies from things both band related and not related and never had an issue
I used to warm up in a gildan hoodie for wrestling and it’s still completely held together
MY issue with gildan is how unfathomably small their sizes run
im a small dude, but I wear mediums, and I ordered a hoodie that was a gildan hoodie from a local band, medium, got it, and I swear it was smaller than a small
I feel like Gildan sizes are incredibly inconsistent. I have a gildan medium long sleeve that is beyond perfect. And then I have a t-shirt that is also medium and It's insanely tight to the point it might as well be a small.
They definitely are. I have medium t-shirts that are a little baggy on me (but smalls are waaaay too tight) and mediums that fit like a glove. All the same type of Gildan too (Heavy).
The issue is theres a ton of different styles Gildan has that vary in size, materials, and price points. Their cheapest model, the heavyweight one, fits wide and a bit shorter than their tri blends and other higher tiered shirts.
And unfortunately, we are just at luck of draw for whatever the band decided to go with.
Gildan tshirts are the worst, good quality but my god you buy a L size tshirt just to end up being super short on the sleeves and long af on the torso.
I have an alpha wolf tee, L size that looks like a dress, while being short on the sleeves.
They’re so boxy and wide 😔
I wish my hoodies were boxy and wide from them
I am 135 lbs and this medium is too small for me
I have sensory issues, so I personally cannot rock the boundaries shirt I got because it feels like I'm wearing a burlap sack. I didn't return it because I'm happy to support them. I just wish they specified so I could have gotten a vinyl instead.
Rock the hoodie
I love the independent brand hoodies! Have 2 gilden band hoodies and can’t stand wearing them. Unless it’s stated I only buy band shirts. Deff feel your pain.
I ordered the hoodie as the picture of the hoodie look like really good quality.
A webstore photo doesn't seem like a reasonable basis upon which to make a decision over garment quality unless there's a visible product label indicating what brand of blank the design will be printed on. Even then, unless the product description mentions that it will definitely be that brand, I don't think there's a reasonable expectation that it will be.
They did not have any description as to what that material was being used.
At which point you can decide not to buy or fire a message to ask what it's likely to be printed on. You essentially committed to a blind purchase.
Should I just suck it up and rock the hoodie?
You have the hoodie now, why would you not wear it? What will letting it languish in a drawer or wardrobe achieve? I know it's become pretty common to bash Gildan, but they do make functional clothing you can still get a lot of use from even if there's better stuff out there.
I'm convinced this whole "Gildan shirts suck" is related to people not taking care of their clothes properly. I have plenty of Gildan shirts and they fit perfectly fine with no issues. They're not itchy, they don't shrink when I wash them, and the designs don't fade. Nothing that anyone bitches about online has ever happened to my shirts. I refuse to believe that every single Gildan except for the ones I buy somehow are dogshit.
What are y'all doing to them? Are you washing them in warm/hot water not turned inside out? Are you running them in the dryer on max heat? I don't get it. Just turn them inside out (treating any dirty spots obviously), machine wash cold, then hang dry them or if you absolutely have to dry them in the dryer use medium to low heat. Yes it will take longer, but your clothes won't get damaged or shrink. I've been buying Gildan band shirts for literally decades at this point and still have some from 15+ years ago that look as close to brand new as a shirt that I've been wearing for 15 years can. Take care of your clothes properly and they will last regardless of brand.
To answer your actual question though OP, yes rock the hoodie.
One thing I’d also like to add is that, like most clothing companies, Gildan sells more than one blank. These kinds of posts will always be confusing to someone unless you specify what blank is being used, as that can make a world of a difference.
Good point. Gildan Heavy seems to be the main one for tshirts and they're fine, like the OP of this comment chain I don't really have any of the issues with them that many claim to in terms of quality. Design wise they're a little boxy, but meh. I've also got a few shirts on Gildan Softstyle and Hammer, both of which are palpably different to the Heavy, whether it's the thickness and feel of the fabric or way that the sleeves are tighter to my arms.
Ive realized most people have 0 clue how to properly take care and wash their clothes. Every gilden shirt that ive owned has lasted years with little issue.
For real, I've been buying merch for decades and it's always been Gildan and I've never had issues. Now I do know/see more quality shirts with comfort colors and I scoop those immediately for sure. But yeah...there's nothing wrong with Gildan.
What size do you buy though? As a bigger dude I can say that Gildan is not friendly to XXL plus sizes and even when I was buying XL the fit was a crapshoot. It’s not that the clothes don’t hold up, it’s that the fit brand new is awful like 75% of the time. At this point I don’t really buy merch unless I love the band and will buy whatever they have no questions asked, or something is printed on Gildan Hammer, LA Apparel, or Shaka.
Generally XL, but sometimes 2X if it looks like it might be a tighter fitting shirt. I'm a slightly taller dude at 6'3" so I have to buy bigger sizes just so they fit correctly on me most of the time. I always ask if the shirts run slightly tighter fit wise before purchasing at a show. Online I just message bands and ask what brand it is. Comfort Colors, for instance, I can buy XL with confidence. Have never had an issue with them. When it comes to Gildan, I do ask if it is on Gildan Hammer or regular Gildan. Regular Gildan I will opt for 2X a lot of the time because the XL does fit a bit more snug than I personally want. I'm a 90 kids, I gotta have my shirts a little baggy.
My issue with Gildan hoodies is more so looking like a muffin top because of that stupid elastic band.
This guy housewives
I had the exact same happen to me, but with the t shirt. It sucks, but it’s kinda just the norm at this point. Don’t let it being a gildan stop you from wearing it. At the very least, it still looks pretty sick. It’s also supporting the band, and that’s awesome.
I’m with you OP. Nothing more disappointing than ordering band merch and it’s printed on the worst fitting shit available. The graphics on a tshirt, hoodie, tank top, are second fiddle to the way a shirt fits and feels on the skin. It doesn’t matter if it’s the sickest design ever, if the shirt is blocky and you look like shit wearing it then what’s the fucking point?
Got the same sweater and the sleeve openings were really big for some reason, I figured from now on I’ll just support by buying merch at shows since that seems to be better quality (got their headliner tour sweater and it was much better)
The scars hoodie from their tour is by far the comfiest piece of clothing I’ve owned
If it's a smaller band, just always assume they're using Gildan
I also don't get the Gildan hate. I have never had an issue with them
I'm 6'5" 220lbs and Gildan just straight up does not fit. It's all short and wide, between sizes it gains 3" in width and 1" in length. I know that the world is just not built for me, but it sucks not being able to rep bands I love unless I bootleg their clothing myself.
Use it as a beater hoodie? Idk, if I buy a hoodie/shirt, etc. and it doesn’t seem like great quality, I don’t treat it like it is. I have a hoodie I wear to the gym because it isn’t great quality, perfect for beating up.
i feel like the only one who doesn’t mind Gildan brand stuff, i’ve never had any issues with it personally. if it keeps cost down i don’t mind it a bit
Throw it away, but let em keep your money. It’s got maybe 2 washes in it before it disintegrates.
Personally I quit buying band merch like 20 years ago for that reason. It’s all shit. I’d rather just hand the band cash.
I get that caring about your appearance isn’t a very, “metal” quality, but I’ll get fucked before I drop premium cash on dogshit quality.
Like I said, I’d rather just tip the band than walk away with Gildan.
$60 is a little steep for a hoodie, unless it’s a 3 color print or something but as others have said Gildan is the standard, unfortunately, for most bands. Anything else would’ve likely been much pricier.
50-60 is pretty normal for a hoodie. 25-40 for shirts, etc
$60 is a little much. I just grabbed a Contention hoodie for $40 on Gildan Heavy. Granted it’s just a single color print but still fairly reasonable pricing.
Man I wish I could understand the Gildan hate, bunch of my merch is printed on there and it feels fine/holds up 🤷♂️
Gildan hoodies are fine, Independent ones are the worst fitting things in the world if you wear bigger sizes.
Death is a Little More, but the hoodies aren’t.
Got your post title
This is why I rarely buy band merch. Just rather rock stuff from brands that actually last
OP has stated her boundaries!
Personally, I dont think I could live with myself. GILDAN of all fucking brands? Give me a break. You think just because you make music, you can get away with giving me GILDAN?! I'm burning my Death is a Little more vinyl as we speak and removing their autographs from my jewel case. They have crossed my boundaries for the last time!
